Microsoft recently pushed the May firmware update for Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2, but at least a dozen users reported that after installing the update, problems such as device bricking and random restarts occurred.

Some Surface Duo users restarted the device after installing the update, and it failed to restart. It is recommended to restore the factory settings. Some users reported that they can enter normally after restarting again, but some users reported that they still cannot enter, resulting in the failure of the device to boot.

In addition, in the Reddit community, users reported that Surface Duo 2 restarted randomly after installation.

As of press time on this site, Microsoft officials have not responded.

Developer Gustave Monce recently released driver version 2305.25 for the Surface Duo phone, making the dual-screen phone run more smoothly on Win11.

This driver update focuses on improving the stability of the GPU driver and graphics stack, improving background performance, and fixing brightness issues for a better experience.

The update also restores the USB MTP protocol for file transfer, addresses display refresh rate synchronization, fixes Wi-Fi connectivity issues, and more.

The full changelog of the new driver is as follows:

New features! A bunch of drivers have been updated to improve stability and enhance some features. Notably, the GPU driver and graphics stack have been updated for more stable operation, brightness issues have been fixed, and OpenGL-based applications run more smoothly.

New features! Started re-optimizing the Camera subsystem. Started with this driver version, but no significant changes have been made since it was currently enabled.

New feature! Started to re-optimize Sensors subsystem. Since this driver version, but no significant changes have been made since it was enabled.

New feature! Started re-optimizing the Audio subsystem. Started with this driver version, but no significant changes have been made since it was enabled.

New feature! Started re-optimizing the Battery subsystem. Started with this driver version, but no significant changes have been made since it was enabled.

New feature! Added de-jitter delay to the power button to prevent continuous accidental quick wakeup of the display.

New feature! You can now use USB MTP to transfer files in and out of the device again.

New feature! Display scaling now defaults to 250% for your eye comfort.

New feature! Phone Link app works again after upgrading to the Windows Zinc Semester internal version (ZN_RELEASE).

Windows Zinc Semester version can now be installed again.

New feature! This update resolves some issues that were affecting WiFi connectivity and reliability on WiFi 6 networks.

New! This update resolves a crash issue with Windows 11 Build 22000 and lower.

New! Further enhancements to the audio listener Voice activation model for voice assistants such as Alexa or Cortana.

New feature! This update resolves display refresh rate and synchronization issues that occur on two screens at the same time.

Developer Gustave Monce today released a 2302.64 driver update to make the first generation Surface Duo running Win11 more stable and smooth and add some new features/functionality.

The biggest highlight of this driver update is the ability to connect the Surface Slim Pen charger via the USB-C cable.

Users can connect the Surface Slim Pen charger using a cable with both USB-C ports.

Placing the Surface Slim Pen in the connected charging cradle will automatically pair it with the Surface Duo for charging

Removing the Surface Slim Pen from the connected charging cradle will automatically wake up the Surface Duo

New firmware is now available for Surface Slim Pen 2 users (the pen will automatically update when connected to the device)

Optimized touch driver for sharing between two devices

Simplified process for using OTG devices

Fixed blue screen issue

[WIP] Updated pen and touch calibration, not all changes are currently available, so calibration may not apply to this update

[WIP] Added support for DisplayPort via USB-C
