The YouTube channel PBKreviews recently disassembled the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE phone and stated that Samsung has equipped the machine with a powerful cooling system, so that the Exynos 2200 chip can perform better.

It was previously reported that the performance of the Exynos 2200 on the Galaxy S23 FE does seem to be better than the Galaxy S22 series. On Geekbench 6.2, the S23 FE has a single-core score of 1612 and a multi-core score of 4005. In the AnTuTu benchmark, the Galaxy S23 FE has a CPU score of 329165 and a GPU score of 437040, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a CPU score of 305069 and a GPU score of 312522. Judging from the benchmarks, the CPU performance has improved by nearly 10%, but GPU performance is significantly improved by 30%.

Through disassembly, it was discovered that Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S23 FE with a very large heat sink to dissipate heat more effectively.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is IP68 waterproof and dustproof. After heating the glass back panel, you can see that all openings are sealed with rubber and glue.

The motherboard on the back of the phone is fixed with 20 Phillips screws. After disconnecting the ribbon connector, charging coil and NFC antenna, you can use the pull tab to easily remove the battery. In the end, the anchor gave the phone a repairability score of 8.5.

In response to the rumors that “Samsung will terminate its cooperation with AMD on mobile GPUs”, blogger @Tech_Reve believes that the news is not accurate, and gives his own opinion.

He said that Samsung is indeed developing its own GPU, but it’s more like a modified version of AMD’s GPU. Samsung will continue to use AMD GPUs in the future, as AMD VP Martin Ashton is expected to be the guest of honor at Samsung’s LSI Technology Day event this month, where he will be announcing detailed information about the collaboration between the two companies in graphics semiconductor technology.

Samsung Exynos

According to previous blogger @Connor, the upcoming Exynos 2400 could be the last SoC from Samsung to feature an AMD GPU, with Samsung looking to develop its own customized solution. The blogger claimed, “There are indications that the GPU partnership between Samsung and AMD is coming to an end, and Samsung plans to free itself from other vendors by developing custom GPUs in 2025.”

It is learned that Samsung and AMD entered into a partnership on mobile GPUs in 2021, with the Exynos 2200 becoming the brand’s first SoC chip to feature AMD’s RDNA architecture GPUs, inheriting advanced graphics features such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT) and variable-rate shading (VRS), which had previously only been available in PCs, laptops, and gaming consoles. In the real world, however, the SoC chip didn’t live up to expectations.

According to Dutch technology media Galaxy Club, Samsung has improved the Exynos 2200 processor. Judging from more than a dozen GeekBench scores, the performance of the Galaxy S23 FE will be better than the previous performance of the S22 series.

According to reports, in the same GeekBench 6.1.0 version, the Galaxy S22 phone equipped with the Exynos 2200 processor scored between 900 and 1500, and the multi-core score was between 3400 and 3500; while the single-core score of the Galaxy S23 FE is basically At around 1600, the multi-core score is around 4100 points.

There is currently no data indicating that Samsung is increasing the clock speed of the Exynos 2200 chip. Both devices come with 8GB of RAM and run Android 13.

It was previously reported that Samsung improved the yield rate of the Exynos 2200 through “design changes”, which may be the main reason for the improvement in the Galaxy S23 FE phone running score.

When Samsung announced that it was working with AMD to develop a mobile GPU based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture, expectations were stretched very high, and as a result, the Xclipse 920 GPU on the Exynos 2200 did not live up to expectations, and Samsung switched to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on the Galaxy S22 series in more regions.

However, Samsung is not convinced and has made it clear that it will continue to work with AMD and stick with the RDNA architecture for mobile GPUs.

Sungboem Park, Samsung’s vice president of GPU development, said, “Samsung has officially confirmed that its future Exynos chipsets will continue to use GPUs based on AMD’s RDNA architecture, and we plan to continue to implement additional features in the RDNA family by working closely with AMD.”

The Exynos 2200, codenamed Pamir, is expected to use the 3nm GAA process and have the latest ARM CPU core and updated Xclipse GPU based on AMD’s new Radeon GPU. Mass production of the 3nm chipset is expected to begin later this year, in perfect sync with the next generation of Exynos processors.

In addition, sources say Samsung has set up a “dream team” to build a new high-end custom processor for the Galaxy S series, targeting 2025 on the Galaxy S25. A Samsung spokesperson responded that while we are constantly engaging with customers to develop competitive mobile processors, no concrete decisions have been made.
