The Rolls-Royce Cullinan luxury SUV has been launched for nearly six years. The car has become the sales leader of Rolls-Royce. Now the British luxury car manufacturer The mid-term facelift Cullinan is under development, and spy photos of the new car have been exposed for the first time.

Judging from the spy photos, the new car has not changed much. The classic straight waterfall front grille and square light group are still absent from the front face. However, the redesigned lower bumper abandons the traditional horizontal and vertical design and replaces it with a lower bumper. The bumper has a trapezoidal lower opening with diagonal blades on the inside. In between is a lower bar, but since this is a prototype, the vehicle in the picture may be a design specific to this test car.

Above the lower insurance, it is noticed that there are two covering panels, most likely to cover the slimmer headlights and new daytime running lights as well as the redesigned internal structure. It seems that the new car will integrate a new L-shaped light strip that extends all the way to the front apron.

The changes on the side and rear of the car are not very obvious. The test car seems to be equipped with a more rugged exhaust. I wonder whether it will be extended to the production version in the future.

In terms of power, the new car will most likely continue the configuration of the current model, and the V12 engine will not be absent. There is currently no indication whether Rolls-Royce plans to add hybrid or plug-in hybrid elements to the power system.

Rolls-Royce recently released its first modern two-seater convertible sports car Droptail. The convertible style established it as a luxury brand.

Rolls-Royce says the car represents the “absolute pinnacle” of its in-house coachbuilding capabilities. The new car joins the Sweptail in 2017 and the Boattail in 2021 as the latest addition to its ultra-rare, tens of millions of pounds special series. Rolls-Royce did not disclose the price of this car, but it is understood that the price of the four DropTails exceeds that of the Boat Tail, which sells for 20 million pounds (currently about RMB 186 million).

The Droptail isn’t based on the now-defunct Dawn convertible but instead features an all-new monocoque chassis made of steel, aluminium and carbon fibre, a first for the bodybuilding department.

In terms of power, the Droptail is equipped with the familiar twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 engine. After special tuning, compared with the Phantom, it has increased 30 horsepower and reduced torque by 44 lb. ft., with a total output of 593 horsepower and 620 lb. foot. Rolls-Royce hasn’t released any performance figures, but there’s no doubt that Droptail will be pretty close to the V12 version of Dawn, with a 0-62 mph acceleration time of under 5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (approximately 249.45 km/h). ) / Hour.

At 5.3 meters long and 2 meters wide, the Droptail is slightly smaller than the electric Specter, and its fully bespoke silhouette gives the new car a sportier character than mainstream Rolls-Royce models, enhanced by blade-shaped rear wheel arches and a large carbon fiber rear. The diffuser is further enhanced. The removable roof panel is also made of carbon fiber, which makes it easier for the driver or their valet to install and remove. It also features a large piece of electrochromic glass that can be adjusted for transparency with the push of a button.

Aerodynamics played a major role in shaping the Droptail. Rolls-Royce points out that its sloping rear end is “generally not conducive to generating downforce”, which means that it is not stable enough at high speeds without external assistance. Instead of installing a spoiler, Rolls-Royce tweaked the design of the rear to generate the necessary downforce without compromising aesthetics, a process that took two years and 20 iterations.

The Droptail’s front end is more familiar, though its grille is curved and ends in a chamfer rather than a right angle. Rolls-Royce said the tweaks reflected the car’s “spontaneous spirit”.

This ‘casual’ approach is continued in the interior, where Rolls-Royce’s design goal was to create an ‘intimate’ environment. Switches are hidden as much as possible, with only three buttons remaining in view, and the electric center console can be moved to cover the infotainment control knob. Rolls-Royce said it was “the most complex, laborious and expensive craft” ever produced at its Goodwood factory.

Each Droptail comes with a custom Audemars Piguet watch that also serves as the vehicle’s clock, mounted on the dashboard with a snap-on mechanism.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce, said: “Droptail also answers a long-standing question – can a car be created as a work of art? With the unveiling of this extraordinary roadster, the answer is yes. “

The well-known luxury car brand Rolls-Royce recently announced a draconian measure that customers who buy its new electric car Shining and immediately resell it for profit will be permanently banned. Blacklisted him and no longer allowed him to buy any Rolls-Royce models. The policy has drawn the ire of some high-end London car dealers, who see it as a violation of customers’ rights.

Shining is the first pure electric car launched by Rolls-Royce, and it is also one of its most expensive models. The domestic price starts from 5.75 million CNY. Due to its limited production and unique design, Shining is very popular in the market. Some wealthy people immediately resell it at a higher price after buying it, and earn the difference from it. This practice has become a common phenomenon in the field of supercars. For example, the prices of some limited edition models of Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and other brands in the second-hand market are often several times or even dozens of times higher than the original price.

However, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said they would not tolerate such behaviour, seeing it as disrespectful to the brand and customers who really love its cars. respect. “They would be immediately blacklisted and never have the chance to buy our car again,” he told Car Dealer magazine.

It is noticed that Rolls-Royce is not the first car brand to express dissatisfaction with the phenomenon of “reselling”. As early as 2017, Andreas Preuninger, head of the Porsche GT department, ) said that Porsche is monitoring which customers are reselling vehicles and limiting the quotas for these people to buy special models. He told Car and Driver magazine at the time: “I personally like to see my cars being used, that’s what we built them for, they’re too good to be left for dust… I don’t like people buying our cars to make money, that was never our intention.” More recently, General Motors (GM) also announced that if customers resell a Chevrolet Z06 sports car within a year, it will void certain warranties and bar them from buying it. Any future GM model.

The move apparently angered some high-end car dealers, who make a lot of money buying and selling valuable, limited-edition vehicles. British supercar dealer Tom Hartley expressed his displeasure with Rolls-Royce’s new policy to Car Dealer magazine, “I’ve agreed to buy two Shinings from customers. I think A car manufacturer has no right to tell a customer who has spent nearly half a million pounds on a car what not to do.”

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars recently announced that its first pure electric car Spectre has completed a global test of 2.5 million kilometers, which is equivalent to simulating a service life of more than 400 years. This luxury pure electric car will be delivered to customers in the fourth quarter of this year, and the domestic price starts at 5.75 million CNY.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars chief executive Müller-Otterworth said: “The Shining has passed our engineers’ ‘graduation exam’ in order to achieve its perfect final form, completing the most demanding testing program in the history of our brand. .”

During the test, the Shining endured the test of extreme temperature difference from minus 40 degrees Celsius to minus 50 degrees Celsius. The test roads included ice and snow, desert, Gobi and urban roads. The testers also conducted a multi-faceted analysis based on the customers’ daily habits, driving a total of more than 50,000 hours.

Rolls-Royce engineers have made thousands of adjustments to the vehicle’s acoustic performance, steering precision, charging time, etc., to ensure that Shining can provide an excellent car experience. The test engineers also conducted “scenario-based” tests on the vehicle for the usage scenarios of Rolls-Royce customers, such as whether the vehicle can provide The user provides a quiet telephone conversation environment and the like.

Dr Michal Ayoubi, Director of Engineering, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, also said: “Such an extraordinary vehicle required an extraordinary test program and I could not be more proud that the Shining has completed the most difficult task in the history of our brand. .”

The Shining is one of the most innovative models in the history of the Rolls-Royce brand. The maximum output power of the motor is 430 kW, the peak torque is 900 Nm, and the 106 kWh battery pack is used. Rolls-Royce CEO considers a full shift to hydrogen fuel cell technology in the future https://www.techgoing.com/rolls-royce-ceo-considers-a-full-shift-to-hydrogen-fuel-cell-technology-in-the-future/ Mon, 12 Jun 2023 11:11:17 +0000 https://www.techgoing.com/?p=105284 British luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce previously unveiled its first all-electric Spectre, with a range of more than 500 kilometers and an estimated range of $327,750 to $458,000 (currently about RMB 2.357 to 3.293 million). British luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce previously unveiled its first all-electric Spectre, with a range of more than 500 kilometers and an estimated range of $327,750 to $458,000 (currently about RMB 2.357 to 3.293 million).

However, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös recently told the media that the company is considering a full shift to hydrogen fuel cells in the future, provided the technology is mature enough for large-scale commercialization, given Rolls-Royce’s brand positioning and customer expectations.

When asked by AutoCar, Toston said that although companies such as Toyota have developed hydrogen-burning engines, and Rolls-Royce’s parent company was experimenting with hydrogen combustion technology in the BMW 7 Series at the beginning of the 21st century, Rolls-Royce would not consider using hydrogen-burning engines: “This technology is not the most efficient way to use hydrogen, and if hydrogen is to be used in the future, it will must be through the fuel cell. A fuel cell is no different to a normal battery, it’s just a different way of getting energy.”

Toston said bluntly, “When we think the right time comes, Rolls-Royce will certainly pursue more advanced technology and perhaps we will move away from normal batteries and move fully into the fuel cell sector.”

However, Toston also acknowledged that the difficulty of obtaining hydrogen in the average home is a current technical hurdle. In contrast, most Spectre users already own more than one electric car, and they are able to charge easily at the office or at home via a charging post, making existing pure electric cars more advantageous to them.

For this reason, Rolls-Royce is “closely monitoring” the development of hydrogen refueling infrastructure to assess the possibility of hydrogen fuel cells.

The Rolls-Royce Spectre was officially unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in April this year and is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2023 with a domestic pre-pricing of RMB 5.75 million.
