Recently, Nothing founder Pei Yu in an interview with Forbes magazine revealed that Nothing Phone (2) will be available in the U.S. in July at the same time as the rest of the world, it is noted that Nothing Phone (1) entered the U.S. market only a few months after its global launch last year.

Nothing Phone (1)

Pei Yu said the U.S. market is critical to Nothing’s success, and he hopes the Phone (2) will provide consumers with a true iPhone alternative. He said, “The U.S. is a very Apple-dominated market and there is no real choice for those looking for an alternative, which provides a great opportunity for Phone (2).” Pei Yu also confirmed that the Phone (2) will come with a 4700 mAh battery, which is 200 mAh more than the Phone (1)’s 4500 mAh. Although not the largest, it is still larger than the Samsung Galaxy S23’s 3900 mAh and the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 4323 mAh.

Regarding the processor, Pei Yu has previously confirmed that the Phone (2) will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip that was introduced last year, instead of the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. He explained that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a “proven processor” that has been “fully tested and optimized through numerous updates” since its launch last year. He said the chip will help deliver high-end performance without excessive cost, making the upcoming device more affordable. According to Pei Yu, Nothing will continue to focus on user experience rather than joining the configuration race, and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will help the company achieve that goal.

The Nothing Phone (2) is expected to be officially released in a few weeks, and it remains to be seen if it will continue the success of its predecessor. The Nothing Phone (1) has reportedly sold 750,000 units worldwide.

Nothing is about to launch its second smartphone Nothing Phone (2), Nothing CEO Pei Yu confirmed today that Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

Pei Yu said that the performance of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 equipped with the Nothing Phone (2) will be greatly improved compared with the Snapdragon 778G+ of the Nothing Phone (1), and the reason for not choosing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is “from the perspective of user interests.” Look, the cost/expense of using the latest technology is not always justified”.

“Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 ensures that Nothing Phone (2) remains accessible while delivering a significantly improved experience over Nothing Phone (1),” said Pei Yu.

According to previous reports, Nothing Phone (2) has appeared on the running score platform before, the model is A065, the single-core running score is 1253 points, and the multi-core running score is 3833 points. The main frequency of the processor is 3.0GHz, including three 2.5GHz high-performance cores and four 1.8GHz low-power cores. The phone also comes with 12GB of RAM, but an 8GB version is also possible.

According to previous reports, Nothing Phone (2) is expected to use a 6.55-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, support a refresh rate of 120Hz, and support the fingerprint recognition function under the screen, equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera, and will provide three memory storage combinations, respectively 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB.

After announcing late last month that the Nothing Phone (1) would be one of the first Android phones, other than the Pixel, to get a sneak preview of Android 14, Nothing today officially announced the launch of its developer preview program.

The program gives Nothing Phone (1) owners the option to upgrade to Android 14 Beta, with the caveat that in addition to wiping all data from the device, the update requires a sideload install and does not support OTA upgrades.

The Nothing website provides a detailed guide on how to do the update, which requires downloading the update package directly on the phone and other manual steps. Since the Build version is still in early development, it’s not easy to install, so it’s not recommended for everyday use or non-advanced users.

In addition, as was the case with the early beta, you will encounter certain issues if you choose to proceed with the installation,

The relevant known issues are as follows:

  • Fingerprint cannot be registered.
  • Face Unlock is not available.
  • The Glyph feature is not available.
  • Battery sharing is not available.
  • No portrait mode or slow motion function in the camera app.
  • Nothing Weather and Nothing X apps are not pre-installed.
  • Screen projection to TV connection is not available.

Nothing also provides a rollback tool in case something goes wrong and users need to roll back to a stable version of Android. Please note, however, that this tool will again completely wipe the device, so a full backup is recommended. i

The Nothing OS 1.5.4 update has been pushed to the world, solving some problems and bringing an optimized experience.

This update is about 119 MB and is being rolled out in phases, so users can go to Settings > System > System Updates to check if it is available.

The updated content:

One of the most important changes in this update is the new feedback feature that allows users to report any issues or make suggestions to the developers. This new feature helps developers to continuously improve the OS.

The update also reduces standby power consumption by optimizing the 4G/5G network switching feature. This optimization ensures that users use less power when their phone is idle, which means they can enjoy a longer battery life. The Bluetooth feature in the shortcut settings has also been optimized to make it easier to access paired devices.

The update introduces smoother QR code transactions by scanning the UPI QR code directly from the camera app and selecting the payment app on the device to complete the transaction, which is only available in select regions.

The update optimizes the fingerprint unlock experience to be more responsive and accurate; pop-up view animations are now smoother and provide a more seamless experience.

Other improvements include integration with Google Security Center and NDot Cyrillic font support for Belarusian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Russian, Serbian and Ukrainian.

The update also addresses several issues reported by users, including freezing during pop-up views, improved notification display in Quick Settings, error messages during face unlock settings, and faster incoming call notifications.

In addition to this update, the Nothing Phone (1) will also be pushing an Android 14 Beta 1 update to beta testers in the coming weeks, with a new Nothing Phone (2) phone due out this summer.
