Nothing started recruiting people for its Android 13-based Nothing OS 1.5 Beta program earlier this month. 17. Prior to that, the company said it would not be offering the Android 13 release to Nothing Phone (1) users this year.

Nothing OS 1.5 Beta is now being pushed out to registered users. Nothing OS 1.5 comes with a new weather app and custom Nothing UI, apps that load 50 percent faster, more color schemes for matching third-party apps to themed wallpapers, a new QR code scanner in Quick Settings, a clipboard preview at the bottom of the screen for quick editing before pasting, and a new look for the Media controller’s new look.

There’s also the ability to turn off running background apps from the notification area, increased background memory, reduced wait times for frequently used apps to load, and a new self-healing feature that “makes Nothing Phone (1) run like new” by clearing unused cache and expired system dumps. Better quick settings with new pop-up windows for network and Bluetooth devices, a new UI for volume control with an easy-to-adjust slider that eliminates the need to unlock the screen, and an improved game mode with a new UI for light notifications and a Google Play dashboard with support for screenshots, screen recording, FPS display, and distraction-free mode.

Users will also get all the features that Google packed into Android 13, including a new photo selector, new notification permissions, new media permissions, and support for using different apps in different languages.

The final stable version of Nothing OS 1.5 is promised to arrive in “early 2023”.

Nothing, founded by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, launched its first new product, the Nothing Phone 1, in July. The phone attracted a lot of attention before it was released. The popularity of Nothing Phone 1 on Kuan.com exceeded 190,000, which is close to the popularity of the iPhone 14. 200,000.

With its unique design style, Nothing Phone 1 stands out among the crowd of Android phones, plus the price of 469 euros (about RMB 3200 ), the sales quickly exceeded 200,000 units after listing, and it was called “net red phone” by netizens.

Along with the arrival of Android 13, users are also expecting Nothing to adapt Android 13 for Nothing Phone 1 at first.

However, Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, was vague when interacting with users and did not respond positively when the Android 13 update would be released, saying that “specifications, features and version number do not represent the whole product”.

Nothing customer service said that Nothing Phone 1 Android 13 update is expected to be launched in the first half of 2023.

Considering that Nothing Phone 1 pre-installed Nothing OS is closer to the native Android, it is obviously a bit late to push it in the first half of next year.

It is reported that this time Android 13 improves the existing privacy control. On Android 13, Google has added more refined permission settings, allowing users to share only specific photos and videos, instead of granting full access to media libraries.

Also, Android 13 will automatically clear clipboard history after a period of time, and users must grant apps permission to send notifications without turning it on by default.

More importantly, Android 13 uses Bluetooth Low Power (LE) audio, a new Bluetooth audio standard with lower latency.

This allows users to hear audio that is near-synchronized with the source, resulting in less latency. With Bluetooth Low Power (LE) audio, users can also enjoy the enhanced audio quality and broadcast audio to multiple devices simultaneously.

As a brand new cell phone brand, Nothing Phone 1 stands out in a crowd of Android phones with its unique design style, plus the price of less than 3,000 yuan, once became a recent net popularity phone with a lot of talks. Although the configuration is mid-range level, but the machine in the first sale sales exceeded 200,000 units, has a high popularity. However, soon after the sale, the machine also exposed many quality control problems.

It is currently on sale in India and Europe. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 778G+ chip, 16MP front, 50MP main camera and 50MP ultra wide angle at the back, Sony IMX766 main camera, OIS optical stabilization support, 4500 mAh battery, 33W wired fast charging, and 15W wireless charging.

Today, a netizen posted on social media platforms that his Nothing Phone 1 flash assembly was crooked (as shown in the picture below).

Not only that, netizens have successively found that Nothing Phone 1 also has problems such as greenish screen edges, LED light strips falling off, and gourd screen.

For Nothing, these problems will undoubtedly affect the brand’s reputation. How to solve the problems of these first-time buyers so as not to chill their hearts is probably the first thing Nothing needs to solve at the moment.

According to the official hype, Nothing Phone (1) has the Glyph backlight, which can be used for notification/charging instructions, but Dylan Roussel has just discovered yet another trick for it. With a little digging and a strange solution, you can also use The Glyph as a music visualization tool.

When enabled, The Glyph will light up and flash with whatever music you’re listening to — as long as the audio is played through the Nothing Phone (1) speakers!

9to5Google speculates that, perhaps for fear of the risk of inducing photosensitive epilepsy, the official did not officially disclose and promote this feature.

But if you want to experience it, you can still try the following steps.

"(1) Create a new contact named 'Abra' in your phone's address book.

(2) Go to 'Settings' and select the 'Glyph Interface' function menu.

(3) Click 'Ringtone' and add a contact.

(4) Select the ringtone associated with 'Abra'.

(5) Save the settings and exit the ringtone menu."

Once the operation is complete, a toggle switch for the music visualizer will appear in the Glyph Interface’s settings screen.

Once enabled, your Nothing Phone (1) will start flashing and pulsating with whatever tune is playing on your speakers.

Nothing Phone 1, a brand new cell phone handset in 2022, has gained far more attention than expected with its unique ID design. For example, the LED strip on the back, the equal width of the four sides on the front and the affordable price of less than 3,000 yuan (Nothing Phone 1 is priced at INR 32,999 in India, which is about RMB 2,800 yuan), all these features are considered a refreshing stream in the same price range. But just recently, the first batch of Nothing Phone 1 has been turning over frequently because of quality issues.

In today’s news, an overseas blogger has posted a photo of the Nothing Phone 1 on a social media platform, where the LED light bar on the back of the phone has fallen off by itself. As you can see in the picture below, there are several light bars embedded in the back of the Nothing Phone 1, and one of the light bars near the camera position has obviously fallen off, although the function is normal, but we can’t help but worry about the failure of the subsequent use.

This is not the first time that Nothing Phone 1 has been “flipped”, as some users have reported on social media that they got Nothing Phone 1 with bad dots near the front camera opening or a “gourd screen” problem. Some users even said that in low brightness, the lower half of their Nothing Phone 1 screen is directly green screen.

Many users hope that the official batch of machines can be recalled in large quantities, re-qualify inspection, elimination of substandard products, and comprehensive optimization of components.

As the first phone of a new brand, the Nothing Phone 1 has received much more attention than expected with its unique ID design, but when those who were attracted by the design got the phone, they still had to face some problems that the startup brand could not avoid. Since the launch of Nothing Phone 1, there has been a lot of feedback from users on social media about bad spots or green haloes around the front camera opening of the phone, which is commonly known as the “gourd screen” problem.

Some users have even claimed that after their first phone developed bad dots, they replaced it with a new one, only to have the problem persist, leaving one to wonder if this is a common problem with the first batch of products.

Now, Carl Pei, founder of Nothing, has taken to social media to acknowledge the problem on behalf of officials.

Officials said that they have learned about the problem from many users, but it still takes time to solve the problem because of the huge demand for the first release.

Unfortunately, the official did not specify the cause of this problem.

If the problem is only a software problem, then the official can also solve the problem through the later firmware update; but from the user feedback, this is more like a typical quality control problem, then if not a mass recall, the first user will have to admit their own bad luck.

Today, an Indian netizen posted on social media platforms that the Nothing Phone 1 he just bought got water on the first day, despite Nothing’s propaganda that the phone supports IP53 level dust and water resistance. It is reported that the netizen spent 29,630 Indian rupees, which is about 2,500 yuan. The phone is officially claimed to support IP53. Although the protection level is not high, but the IP53 rating means that Nothing Phone has a certain defense against water.

But now the Nothing Phone 1 in this user’s hands has gone into the water and considering that Nothing is a new brand, netizens are a bit worried about Nothing’s after-sales service.

Nothing Phone 1 is currently on sale in India, Europe, and other places. It features a 6.55-inch 1080×2400 full-screen, made of OLED, with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chip.

We are just a few days away from the official debut of Nothing Phone (1). The Phone (1) will bring many new changes to the smartphone world, it has also got unique looking LED lights on the rear panel of the device. We’re getting a new piece of information regarding the device every day, and now we have come to know that the brand will not provide any charger in the box of Nothing Phone (1).

No charger in the box: why?

The latest video shared by Technical Guruji, which was actually made in collaboration with the brand, shows us a glimpse of the Nothing Phone’s box packaging (1). The packaging box is made in a very different style than usual; the box is geared toward a more sustainable future. There is no plastic packaging in the box.

Nothing Phone (1)
Nothing Phone (1)

The box is made from recycled fibres such as sugarcane and bamboo. The ink used to print the text on the box is also made from soybeans. The brand has not limited the environmentally friendly elements in the box, but it is also present in the smartphone. Some of the device’s components, such as the frame, are made of recycled materials.

We can see in the same video that there is no charger included in the box. We are still unsure of the company’s position on this. They may or may not offer a free charger as an option. We doubt that the company will follow in the footsteps of Apple by including no charger in the box and claiming, “We’re doing this for the environment.”

Nothing Phone (1) Specifications (rumoured)

The Nothing Phone (1) is expected to feature a 120Hz Super AMOLED panel with a side punch-hole cutout. It has been said that the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC. According to some previous reports, the device will support up to a 33W fast wired charging option. It will have a dual rear camera setup with a 50-megapixels Sony IMX 766 primary camera and a secondary ultrawide.
