Netflix recently launched an app called “Game Controller” on the iPhone and iPad, which is an important step for it to enter the field of cloud gaming. Today, the company revealed more about how the app will be used and its testing plans in a blog post.

Netflix said they will conduct a limited test with select TV users in Canada and the United Kingdom, and in the coming weeks on PCs and Macs via supported browsers on the Netflix.com website. On TVs, games can be played through the “Game Controller” app on phones, and PC and Mac users can play games on Netflix.com using a keyboard and mouse. Netflix added that this limited test is to test their game streaming technology and controllers before the game platform is officially launched.

Here is a list of some smart TV platforms that are compatible with Netflix:

  • Amazon Fire TV Streaming Player
  • Chromecast with Google TV
  • LG Tv
  • Nvidia Shield TV
  • Roku devices and TV
  • Samsung Smart TV
  • Walmart ONN

Apple TV did not appear on this list because of Apple’s hostile policy towards cloud games. Apple must protect its App Store revenue stream, and allowing cloud gaming apps to appear on iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs threatens the App Store’s cash cow: mobile gaming deals.

Netflix plans to release 40 more games in 2023, and will offer 95 games by the end of the year, said Leanne Loombe, vice president of games for Netflix.

The company is offering a large number of handheld games to Netflix subscribers via Android and iOS starting at the end of 2021. In a blog update posted Monday, Netflix said it has 16 first-party games currently in development and another 70 in development with third-party studios.

We intend to continue to improve our game lineup this year, which means new games will be released every month,” Loombe said. Subscribing members will find indie favourites, award-winning heavy hitters, RPGs, narrative adventures, puzzle games, and more. We’re working with the world’s leading studios to bring these games to everyone.”

According to the presentation, Ubisoft plans to release three exclusive games with Netflix, such as Mighty Quest: Rogue Palace, which is scheduled for release on April 18. Ubisoft has previously released Braveheart: Homecoming in January and is also currently developing Assassin’s Creed Handbook and an Assassin’s Creed movie and TV series.

Netflix also announced that a sequel to one of its most popular games, Too Hot to Handle: Love is a Game, is in development by Nanobit and is scheduled for release later this year.

ustwo’s Monument Valley series is coming to Netflix in 2024, “starting with the first two series,” with more to come “later,” according to Loombe.

“While it’s still in the early stages of development, I’m excited to share that Super Evil Megacorp (‘Vanity Fair,’ ‘Catalyst Black’) is working with us on a Netflix exclusive,” she added.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Loombe also revealed more about plans for the Netflix cloud gaming service, “We do believe that cloud gaming will allow us to easily play games anywhere and provide a hassle-free gaming experience.”

“But we do need to be thoughtful about how we do this and how we bring it to our members, so just like we’re doing with handheld games, we’ll take our time and think about it from a learning perspective, but it’s definitely a work in progress.”

Filmmaker Zack Snyder has just also revealed that his Netflix space sci-fi movie Rebel Moon will come with an RPG game, but it’s unclear if it will be released exclusively by Netflix.

Netflix has announced that it is launching a brand new games studio that will work out of Helsinki, Finland. This will join the three companies under Next Games, Night School Studio and Boss Fight Entertainment to accelerate the development of titles for Netflix games. What makes this new in-house studio unique, however, is that it is starting from scratch with nothing, rather than coming under the Netflix umbrella as an acquisition.

Marko Lastikka will head the studio, having spent the last decade working for gaming giants Electronic Arts and Zynga. His experience in executive roles at these companies makes him the ideal candidate to lead Netflix’s new in-house games studio.

The fact that Netflix is still demonstrating its ambition to enter the gaming space, with yesterday’s announcement of a new game and today’s announcement of this news, shows that Netflix is taking gaming seriously. With finances getting tougher and consumer spending dropping, the company is scaling back its non-core activities, but with undiminished interest in gaming, it appears that gaming is now the streaming company’s next core focus.

Netflix is currently focused on mobile games, but over the past few years the company has been moving to a video streaming format for games, and since its core business is streaming video, perhaps we could see it expand into game streaming as well to take on the likes of Google Stadia, Amazon Luna and NVIDIA GeForce Now.

In a tweet this Friday, Netflix revealed a yet-to-be-revealed clip from “The Squid Game”. The clip was revealed today at the 2022 “Tudum: Netflix Global Fan Event,” where Netflix invites more than 200 popular stars and will unveil exclusive trailers, clips and updates from more than 120 titles, movies and games.

The video begins with an introduction by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who expresses his gratitude for the attention of fans around the world, stating that a staggering 2.1 billion hours of viewing has been recorded on Netflix. As the video plays, fans light up the live chat with rows of squid emojis on Netflix’s YouTube channel.

The unreleased clip focuses on the main villain, Front Man, and a goldfish. It’s hard to assign any meaning or context to the video, or what it means for season 2. Hwang Dong-hyuk called the clip a “little gift” for the millions of fans waiting for the show’s highly anticipated second season, which Netflix confirmed in June with a tweet that read “Red light …… green light! ” There is no word yet on a start date.

Netflix Games fails to appeal to the streaming platforms active users https://www.techgoing.com/netflix-games-fails-to-appeal-to-the-streaming-platforms-active-users/ Tue, 09 Aug 2022 15:45:16 +0000 https://www.techgoing.com/?p=14882 Netflix Games will soon become a year old and the platform is still struggling to win the streaming service subscribers over.

In the month of November last year, the top streaming giant introduced a new feature to their streaming platform, Netflix Games. This new feature was to help attract more users to the platform while keeping existing users glued to its services. The gaming service is now approaching its first anniversary, and user engagement leaves a lot to be desired.

Currently, the platform has over 1.7 million daily users since its inception till date. This number is impressive for a service that is barely one year old, but, there are some factors to consider before giving Netflix a thumbs up. One important factor is the number of global subscribers Netflix has at this time.

Globally, Netflix boasts of over 221 million subscribers from their 2022-second quarter report. Now you can see the problem that Netflix Games is facing. Out of 221 million users, only 1.7 million are actively making use of the gaming feature of the streaming platform.

The number of users on Netflix’s gaming platform is only 0.8% of the company’s active subscribers, which isn’t impressive. Well, it is hard to survive in a gaming industry where the likes of Epic games and other mobile game developing companies exist. Netflix on its part has kept on adding games to its catalogue, hoping that it will be able to attract more subscribers to its gaming platform.

Netflix Games will need to work hard with its development to attract subscribers to play games on the streaming platform. Making popular films and series into games seems to be a good move by Netflix, it just needs a little polishing. From official statements of the companies officials, we can deduce that Netflix is cooking something big for the gaming industry.

Netflix debuted the Games service in November last year. It allows customers of the streaming giant to download and experience a selection of Android and iOS games at no additional charge. At the moment, 17 games are accessible. Additionally, according to The Washington Post, the company hopes to expand that selection to roughly 50 titles in the future.

We’re talking about games that operate on your smartphone, but you don’t have to pay for them. It is somewhat similar to Apple Arcade, and there are no advertisements or in-app purchases.

Netflix Games

It appears that the company will take advantage of vertical integration. It is currently producing both a mobile game and a television programme focused on the Exploding Kittens board game. The game is currently in development. The mobile game will be released next month, while the television show is scheduled to air in 2023.

Already, Netflix offers a number of episodes based on video games in its streaming repertoire. It includes The Witcher, Arcane (inspired by League of Legends), The Cuphead Show, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, and Castlevania, among others. It has also lent its name to a number of third-party games to promote them. This includes games such as Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story, to promote them.

Netflix Games provides access to two video games based on its shows. The games are based on the hit programme Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3: The Game. Searching for “Stranger Things” in the mobile app will bring up both the games and the television programme results. Netflix recently purchased three gaming studios, including Next Games (which had just launched Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales). This has enabled the corporation to establish the necessary infrastructure to develop games in-house.

You may view Netflix’s list of video games as of April 2022, by clicking here. Netflix also offers interactive experiences such as special episodes of Black Mirror or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In addition to that, the streaming service also offers entirely interactive shows such as Trivia Quest, which blur the lines between programs and games.
