Last month, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which is entirely manufactured by TSMC and promised lower power consumption and faster processing speeds as compared to the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Motorola will be one of the first devices to use the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, besides the Xiaomi 12 Ultra and ROG Phone 6.

For the camera section, Motorola will be using a rear triple camera setup 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 12-megapixel 2x telephoto. The front-facing shooter is using the 60-megapixel front cam.

The device will sport a 6.67-inch FHD+ resolution and a 14Hz refresh rate. The storage variant varies at 8/12 GB RAM and 128/256GB ROM with LPDDR5 and UFS3.1 storage tech.

The device will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery. It will carry support for a 125W wired fast charging and 30W/50W wireless fast charging. Other additional features include WiFi 6E, USB-C, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, and stereo speakers.

Early today, Motorola officially announced that they will hold a conference on May 10th at 14.00 hours where a certain new product will be launched. The company has also released a new poster, especially for this event, and judging by the poster, it will be a rock-themed conference. Chen Jin, who is the general manager of Lenovo’s mobile phone business department in China, will also appear at this event.

Motorola hasn’t announced any official specs of the upcoming device or even the name of the device. As of this moment, everything is based on rumors and unofficial leaks. Past reports have revealed that Motorola’s upcoming flagship is codenamed “Frontier” and will possibly be another device in the Motorola Edge series.

The Motorola Edge X30, which was launched in December of 2021, was the first device that came with the Snapdragon Gen 1 chip. Motorola could be trying to pull off the same trick this time as well. Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 Plus ins this month and this new Motorola device could be the first device to employ the new SD8G1+ chip.

Motorola Event on May 10

Motorola Frontier specifications (rumored)

A few days ago, an image of the upcoming Motorola “Frontier” was leaked on Weibo, and it showed the device with a new rear camera design. The leak showed that the device has an LED flash strip and a 200MP HP1 OS f/2.2 imprinted on it. So, the device may be using Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL camera sensor for the primary lens. Besides the primary lens, the device will reportedly have another 50MP ultrawide, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 60MP front camera for selfies.

The device will reportedly have a 6.73” P-OLED FHD+ 144Hz display. Onboard, there is 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The device is also supposed to come with a 4,500mAh battery, and it has been confirmed that the device will support 125W fast charging. This will be Motorola’s first device to have such fast charging capabilities. The device may support 50W wireless charging as well.

There is a high probability that this new Motorola device, codenamed “Frontier” will be launched as a part of the Edge series in China. It may be named the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra for the global markets.
