As we all know, Microsoft’s Surface series products are very difficult to maintain. The previous products are not only difficult to disassemble but even some parts cannot be replaced. That seems to have changed now, as the iFixit teardown team gave the recently released Surface Pro 9 a high rating for its repairability, calling it the best repairable Surface device in years.

According to iFixit, the hardest part of disassembling the Surface Pro 9 is removing the display, though even this part isn’t as difficult as previous Surface devices because of the improved adhesive used on the display. With the screen removed, the heatsink and fan assembly can be seen, which are held in place by a few Torx screws.

The most exciting discovery for the iFixit team is that the phone’s battery is held in place by screws, rather than the traditional hard-to-remove adhesive. After removing the battery, just remove some Torx screws from the motherboard and the Surface Pro 9 disassembly is complete. In terms of serviceability, iFixit gave it a 7, which is a big improvement over previous models.

iFixit also shared that Microsoft will release a repair guide for the product by the end of this year, and begin to provide parts in the first half of 2023. The manuals and parts will also be available to regular consumers, whereas previously Microsoft only offered parts to authorized service providers.

Microsoft announced its next-generation Surface Pro tablet at an October event, with several key changes to the latest model, such as optional 5G connectivity and the inclusion of an ARM processor model, the addition of vibrant new body colors and updated accessories. surface Pro 9 is the first Microsoft tablet to feature both Intel and ARM processors in the same lineup. Users can choose between models with Intel’s 12th generation Core i5 and Core i7, or a variant with a Microsoft SQ 3 processor powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon.

Microsoft says the latter’s neural processing unit enables high-speed 5G connectivity (first seen in any Surface), better battery life, and improved auto-framing, eye contact, voice focus and background blur for video calls.

Intel-based versions are available with 8GB, 16GB and 32GB of LPDDR5 memory. For Surface Pro 9 with 5G and Microsoft’s SQ 3 processor, there is a choice of 8GB or 16GB LPDDR4X memory. Storage options include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. the latter is only available on Surface Pro 9 models with Intel processors. Notably, all Surface Pro 9 models come with user-replaceable SSD drives.

Surface Pro 9 is the first tablet in the Surface Pro series to feature a painted case. In addition to the now classic Platinum and Graphite, users can get new Sapphire and Forest versions of the computer that include artfully designed textures.

Buyers can also customize their Surface Pro 9 with the new Surface Pro Signature keyboard, which is made of Alcantara tumbled leather with at least 12 percent renewable content from recycled bio-waste from sugar cane.

While the Surface Pro 9 looks very similar to its predecessor and features the same anodized aluminum body, the tablet no longer offers a headphone jack and Microsoft has dropped the 3.5mm audio port, leaving only a Surface Connect and two Thunderbolt/USB-C 4.0 (only found on Intel models) ports. The ARM-based Surface Pro 9 has two USB-C 3.2 ports.

Microsoft’s new flagship tablet will be available to both regular and business customers. The business version uses Intel’s vPro processor and has the option of using Windows 10 Pro instead of Windows 11 Pro. Regular consumers will get the Surface Pro 9 with Windows 11 Home pre-installed.

The Surface Duo 2 has been around for a while, and it’s a big improvement over the original dual-screen hugger phone. Microsoft will hold a Surface product launch for the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Studio 3 in October, but it won’t include the company’s next-generation Android phone. While we still have no word on a potential launch date for the Surface Duo 3, it will likely arrive in 2023.

The Surface Duo 3 was previously reported to be in development, and now we’ve discovered a new patent application that further proves Microsoft is very interested in joining the growing market for foldable phones.

The patent application, titled “FOLDABLE DISPLAY DEVICE,” focuses on foldable devices, suggesting that the design could work for the Surface Duo 3, which was filed in 2021 and published earlier this year.

As you may know, the Surface Duo has two screens with a hinge that rotates in the middle. Microsoft is working on its successor, which is believed to be a single-screen phone. In this patent application, Microsoft discusses a single foldable panel that can go from zero to 360 degrees.

The images in the patent application show a foldable phone that can switch between a seamless tablet and a one-handed smartphone. This idea may only seem more feasible if Microsoft is able to create a new user interface optimized for this form factor. According to the document, the display of a foldable phone could be bent inward and outward.

That’s interesting, because while phones from companies like Samsung only support folding inward with the second display on top, Microsoft’s idea lets the Surface Duo 3 bend both inward and outward, something no Android manufacturer has tried so far.

Of course, the patent doesn’t necessarily mean that a Surface Duo 3 with this design is forthcoming. However, the patent gives us a better idea of what the company is thinking, and it’s possible that a similar design could be used for the Surface Duo 3 or a future device.

The Microsoft Surface has taken one hit after another in football over the past two weeks. Recently in a game against the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey took his anger out on his Surface tablet after the game was lost.

The Bills had a chance to play one more game to win the game, but the team eventually ran out of time and lost to the Dolphins 19-21. As the cameras turned to the booth where he was watching the game, Dorsey ripped off his headphones, threw his hat and then grabbed his tablet and started slamming it on his desk.

Last weekend, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady slammed his Surface tablet to the ground after his team’s incomplete pass against the Saints. The tantrum even caught the attention of Microsoft’s Surface chief Panos Panay, who responded, “Don’t worry, the Surface should be fine.

According to previous reports, Microsoft is working on a Surface Pro 9 2-in-1 device, which is expected to be released within the year, and will be available in both Intel and ARM versions.

WinFuture is claiming to have information from retailers about the Surface Pro 9 Intel version, with Intel Core i5-1235U and i7-1255U processors.

The Intel Core i5-1235U features a 2+8 design with two large cores up to 4.4GHz and eight smaller cores up to 3.3GHz. This processor delivers a 22 percent increase in performance per core compared to the Surface Pro 8’s Intel Core i5-1135G7.

The Intel Core i7-1255U is also 2+8 cores, with a large core up to 4.7 GHz and a small core up to 3.5 GHz. Based on benchmarks, this is a 12 percent increase in performance per core compared to the Surface Pro 8’s Core i7-1185G7.

The Surface Pro 9 has 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe NVMe SSDs onboard, depending on the model, and the screen display remains unchanged from the previous generation.

Microsoft is planning to launch two new colorways for the Surface Pro 9, with a green version called “Forest” and a blue version called “Sapphire” in addition to the usual silver and black.

The rumors say that the cheapest i5 + 8 GB + 256 GB version of the Surface Pro 9 will cost €1,300 (about $9,100), compared to the previous generation, which started at €1,179, so if the rumors are true, the new Surface Pro will be even more expensive.

The Surface Laptop 5 will also be available with the same Core i5-1235U and i7-1255U processors, starting at €1,200 for the 13.5-inch version and €1,500 for the 15-inch version, according to the media.

According to previous reports, the ARM version of the Surface Pro 9 will be powered by a Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 processor with 16GB of RAM and a single-core score of 1005 and a multi-core score of 5574.

The next generation Surface Pro has been rumored for some time and according to the FCC’s certification documents, it is coming within the year. Microsoft Surface Pro 9 will arrive in October with Windows 11 version 22H2, File Explorer tab, improved security, Wi-Fi 6, 5G chip, and ARM+Intel processor.

The FCC stands for Federal Communications Commission and they certify communication products for consumers in the country, meaning that the product has been approved by the US government for electromagnetic interference and other features related to communication.

According to FCC document C3K1997, the Surface Pro 9 can use built-in 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0, and offers Wi-Fi 6. This listing explicitly mentions support for “multi-band 5G NR, 802.11b/g/n/ax wireless LAN” confirming our suspicions that the company’s next-generation hardware will support 5G.

It’s also worth noting that, according to the FCC document, the Surface Pro 9 will be powered by an ARM processor. The document also mentions Qualcomm’s Intelligent Transport 3.0, which aims to expand 5G coverage and increase uplink speeds. It also optimizes the transmission of cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas.

Of course, in addition to the Snapdragon chip, the Surface Pro 9 will also be available as a traditional model with a built-in Intel processor.

In one of the FCC listings, Microsoft states that Surface devices support “open and closed configurations”, a phrase previously used in the dual-screen Surface Duo filing. However, network certification suggests that the device in the filing is definitely not a phone. All of these changes should result in better battery, wireless and overall system performance compared to previous Surface Pros, particularly the Surface Pro X series.

The Surface Pro 9 is expected to be announced in October, although an official release date has yet to be announced.

The new devices are expected to include 128GB+ of storage (each offering a choice of 5G and Wi-Fi-only connectivity). Paired with 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage, one of the most powerful versions of the Surface Pro 9 is expected to come with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and it is not known for the time being whether there will be any significant changes to the screen size or overall design of the range.

It’s worth noting that this information is based on the list we’ve seen, and product details aren’t clear until the lineup is confirmed by Microsoft.
