Surface Duo 2 netizens reported that after the update, inductive payment cannot be used. Netizens have tried various methods, but they still cannot find a temporary solution.

Microsoft has pushed update 2022.823.34 to the first-generation Surface Duo and update 2022.823.41 to the second-generation Surface Duo. The official log says: “Includes content from the February 2023 Android Security Bulletin.” This month’s update does not mention any known issues.

According to Microsoft’s official update log, this update includes the content of the November Android security bulletin, but no other fixes and improvements have been made to the device. It is worth noting that the current official update log only shows that the first-generation Surface Duo has been updated, and Surface Duo 2 has not announced the December update log.

The updated version of Surface Duo is 2022.819.16, and it brings a security update on December 1st.

Users can download updates for Surface Duo / Surface Duo 2 via Settings > System Update. However, it should be noted that users cannot downgrade again after the update.

Microsoft says this November monthly update summary fixes the issues outlined by Google in the November 2022 Android Security Bulletin but does not provide a full changelog.

But outside of installing this monthly update summary, the carrier AT&T version of the first-generation Surface Duo can be upgraded from Android 11 to Android 12L. Upgrading to Android 12L allows you to experience many of the changes that Microsoft has brought, with some user interfaces inspired by the Win11 platform.

Shane Craig shows these details in his YouTube video, which is available when the device is plugged into the dock and demonstrates how the “Forced Desktop Mode” feature works.

The feature currently exists in developer mode. It can be activated by first enabling Developer Mode and going to Settings > System > Developer Options. Users can then switch to the “Force Desktop Mode” option, which is described as “force experimental desktop mode on the secondary display”.

Once activated and the device is inserted into the dock, no changes will be seen on the Surface Duo device end, and Shane Craig noted that the dock connects to the monitor, keyboard and mouse, and the device will still work with the bottom dock attached. The computer monitor will display the remote desktop application icon, which the user can click to operate. The option to connect to a network or cloud-based available Windows PC. also allows adding more PCs and connecting other applications.

According to developer Gustave Monce, the Surface Duo 2 kernel source code hints at a Wi-Fi-only version of the Surface Duo 2 dual-screen device that Microsoft had considered at some point. But Microsoft has never acknowledged the existence of a non-cellular Surface Duo 2 device.

Perhaps the logic behind the idea is to create a cheaper Surface Duo as a companion device to a user’s smartphone — like a scaled-down Surface Neo with Android, rather than a Windows 10X system.

However, in the end, Microsoft abandoned the Wi-Fi-only version and launched the Surface Duo 2 with a cellular network + Wi-Fi version that conforms to the mobile phone form. This device is currently priced at $999 (about 6,903.09 yuan), which has been discounted by $500 (about 3,455 yuan).

A leaked image from a now-deleted eBay listing shows a much different form factor for the device, mainly in the form of a more rounded design, frosted plastic surface, and a slightly smaller camera bump. Microsoft is reportedly making changes to the Surface Duo 2’s form factor in order to position it as a low-cost model.

Windows Central speculates that it could launch under the name “Surface Duo Go” or something similar, but the changes include a mid-range Qualcomm processor, a dual-camera module on the rear instead of three, and a change in the display configuration.

Microsoft is now working to bring Android 12L to existing Surface Duo 2 devices, rather than shipping the more affordable Surface Duo 2 later this year.

Microsoft’s Surface Duo 2 launched in October 2021 with a hefty price tag and was found to have a long list of bugs and problems right after launch, but the software maker has been gradually improving the device, and according to feedback from users who have gotten their hands on the device, the Surface Duo 2 has gotten better a few months after its release, to the point where “it’s now one of my favorite mobile devices.

According to the media, the model, codenamed “Cronos,” was originally scheduled to be released later this year as a “youth version” of the Surface Duo 2.
