Apple launched a new MacBook Pro model at its recently held “Rapid Coming” themed event, equipped with a new 3nm M3 series chip, which significantly improves battery life. Apple said that the new machine provides “The longest battery life ever in a Mac.”

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 chip can last up to 22 hours while watching movies using the Apple TV app and up to 15 hours while browsing the web, and it has a 70 Wh battery.

Foreign technology media tomsguide recently evaluated the 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with an M3 chip. In its running test, it scored 17 hours and 25 minutes, significantly surpassing Windows notebooks equipped with Intel chips on the market.

Attached the media evaluation steps as follows: run the Internet test script at 150 nits brightness for 17 hours and 25 minutes.

That’s more than 3 hours longer than the MacBook Pro M2 Pro and more than 2 hours longer than the 15-inch MacBook Air. The smaller 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 lasted 18 hours and 20 minutes.

Dell XPS 15 OLED, Surface Laptop Studio 2 and Galaxy Book 3 Ultra did not even break through 10 hours, but Samsung laptops can extend the battery life by lowering the refresh rate. The battery life is 8 hours and 48 minutes at 120Hz, but after lowering to 60Hz, the battery life Can exceed 10 hours.

In the Apple finalized October 31 held “Scary Fast” theme after the special event, Tianfeng Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a tweet, said the focus of the event is expected to be the M3 series of chips, which may include M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.

Ming-Chi Kuo said that if Apple announces the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips at the event, it is expected to be equipped in the 13-inch, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

Kuo said that he had previously predicted that Apple would be unlikely to launch new MacBook Pro models in 2023, mainly due to limited shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023.

If the new MacBook Pro does go on sale in November or December, the supply crunch will continue into the first quarter of 2024.

It was previously reported that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that Apple has been testing MacBook Pro models of the M3 Max and M3 Pro, suggesting that Apple will update the aforementioned devices.

Gurman claimed just last week that Apple wouldn’t update the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips until early 2024, so it looks like his prediction has since changed.

Both Kuo and Gurman are now saying that Apple will unveil the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models at its October event, whereas both of their previous leaks had Apple delaying the update until 2024.

The new MacBook Pros, which are expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2023, are expected to have displays that are 10% brighter overall and consume less power at the same brightness than the previous series, the media claimed.

The Digitimes report is roughly the same as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who previously hinted that Apple might only announce new Macs directly via press release in October, rather than holding a big launch event like it did for the iPhone.

My understanding is that this year's event will follow the same process as the iPhone 14 launch, with Apple still showing a pre-recorded video at the event, and there will be another launch event in October -- possibly the debut of the M3 Mac -- but it's not clear what that will be. - But it's unclear whether this will be positioned as an official launch event.

Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is saying something different, though, according to which the MacBook Pro model in question is expected to be released next year.

Display analyst Ross Young reiterated that Apple’s MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models will not offer OLED display technology until 2026.

Apple Macbook Air

In a tweet, Young shared a new report from Reuters detailing Samsung’s $3.1 billion investment in OLED production in Asan, South Korea (currently about 21.328 billion RMB), and said the facilities will be used to manufacture OLED displays for the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models starting in 2026.

Last month, Young said the MacBook Pro is unlikely to adopt OLED displays until 2026, when Apple’s supply chain is expected to have enough production capacity for notebook-optimized OLED displays.

In the same report, Young explained that the first OLED Mac device is expected to be the MacBook Air with a slightly smaller 13.4-inch display, while the report said that Samsung Display has begun developing an OLED display that will be used in future MacBook Air models.

In addition to the 2026 timeframe, the information also suggests that Samsung Display will play an important role in providing OLED panels for Apple’s next generation of devices — helping to launch the 11.1-inch iPad Pro, 13.4-inch MacBook Air and 13.4-inch MacBook Air — despite Apple’s desire to move away from Samsung Display in favor of its own custom MicroLED technology, 13.4-inch MacBook Air, and the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple did not release any new Mac products in the fourth quarter of last year, the first time this has happened since 2000. The latest news is that Apple plans to hold a special spring event in March this year that will launch at least three Mac devices, including an updated version of last year’s expected MacBook Pro.

The LeaksApplePro report mentions a number of Mac devices coming this March: the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, the new M2 Mac Mini, the Mac Pro with the M2 chip, and the 15-inch MacBook Air. Apple will also introduce the successor to the Pro Display XDR, Apple’s best display ever.

He said that the most noteworthy one is the Mac Pro. It will be cheaper and more efficient than the current Mac Pro, and it will have an M2 Ultra chip with up to 24 cores in its CPU, 76 cores in its GPU, and 192 GB of RAM memory.

Apple originally planned to use the M2 Extreme chip for the Mac Pro, but that plan has been shelved for now. Apple believes that the relatively small audience for the Mac Pro makes it too expensive to produce. In other words, the chip won’t bring too much profit to the company.

As for the Mac Mini, there’s nothing special about it. The design will be the same as before, mainly the chip will be upgraded to M2. The function of this product is nothing more than to provide new Apple silicon and macOS at a very competitive price to attract new users to the Apple ecosystem. To do this, the cost needs to be reduced, so the design remains the same.

Gurman also revealed that a new iMac with the M3 chip “could be available as early as late 2023,” but didn’t share any further details. Gurman previously said Apple plans to skip releasing an iMac with the M2 chip, adding that Apple is still interested in a new iMac Pro with Apple chips, but it is facing delays internally.

According to Gurman, Apple is also continuing to test new Mac mini models with the M2 and M2 Pro chips, but he did not share a time frame for the launch.

Apple’s suppliers are reportedly preparing to produce and ship Apple’s next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Both devices are reportedly expected to feature the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. Suppliers within Apple’s Mac supply chain are preparing for the shipment of the upcoming MacBook Pro by slowing down the production of existing Macs, the company has learned.

Apple’s suppliers are allegedly similarly slowing down the production of the first-generation AirPods Pro after the announcement of the second-generation AirPods Pro last week.

Apple is expected to update its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in the near future, and they will come with the yet-to-be-announced M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is planning a Mac- and iPad-centric event next month, and Gurman says development of the updated machines is well underway right now and could launch as soon as this fall.

The new 14-inch and 16-inch models are expected to retain the same design as the model announced in October 2021, but with updated M2 Pro and M2 Max chips for performance and power efficiency. These chips are expected to be built on a 5nm process, and compared to the M1 equivalent, they may increase the number of GPU cores and memory.

In addition to the updated MacBook Pro, Apple may also plan to announce an updated Mac mini – which will feature the M2 chip, a new iPad Pro, and a Mac Pro with Apple silicon – at an event next month.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s next-generation MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models will enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2022.

In a tweet, Kuo said that the new MacBook Pro models 14-inch and 16-inch will likely still feature chips based on TSMC’s latest 5nm process, given that TSMC’s guidance indicates that revenue from 3nm chip production won’t begin until 2023.

Ming-Chi Kuo’s information appears to conflict with a report from Taiwan media that the M2 Pro chip could be Apple’s first 3nm chip, and Digitimes reports that TSMC plans to start mass production of 3nm chips later this year for upcoming MacBook models and other products.

TSMC’s plan to start producing 3nm chips for Apple in the near future should be a solid one, but it depends on which new Mac models are used first. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is working on MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Mac Pro models based on the M2 chip.

The current MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models, which were released in October 2021, use the 5nm-based M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
