The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, and iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models have a LiDAR scanner next to the rear camera that can be used to instantly measure a person’s height in Apple’s pre-installed Measure app. Apple introduced the Measure app a few years ago, an augmented reality (AR) app that lets you measure objects and people around you with the help of the iPhone camera.

To measure a person’s height, simply open the Measure app, point your iPhone at the person you want to measure and make sure they are visible on the screen from head to toe.

After a short moment, a line will appear above the person’s head with their height measurement. You can choose to display the measurement in feet and inches or in centimeters under “Measurements” → “Measurement Units” in the “Settings” application.

The application measures the height of a person from the ground to the top of their head, hair, or hat. You can even measure the height of a person sitting in a chair.

The circular shutter button in the lower right corner allows you to take a photo of a person’s height measurement and share it with them.

This feature is not available on iPhones without a LiDAR scanner. The reason it’s so easy to measure someone’s height on the iPhone 12 Pro through iPhone 14 Pro models is the hardware. 2020 saw Apple introduce the LiDAR sensor on the Pro version of the device, which is what makes this feature possible. The sensor measures the time it takes for light to travel from the phone to the object. As a result, the sensor will come in handy in AR applications, such as the Measure app.

Back in September, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice imposed a $2.34 million punishment on Apple and ordered the company to stop selling iPhones if the packaging did not include a power adaptor. And now, the brand has again fined another $19 million the country for not providing chargers in the box of their iPhones.

Apple fined another $19 million in Brazil

Apple was recently penalised once more for the same offence, this time by the Sao Paulo civil court. According to the case, which was brought by the Brazilian Consumers’ Organization, a second purchase is required for the product to function, and Apple is required to pay BRL 100 million (about $19 million) in damages.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro

Judge Caramuru Afonso Francisco ruled that Apple must give chargers to all Brazilian customers who bought iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 devices in the previous two years and must also include adapters in future orders. The judgement is not final and is subject to appeal.

Since 2020, Apple will only include the Lighting to the USB-C cable and not the adapter due to environmental concerns. Since then, a lot of other manufacturers have done the same, especially in the luxury market.

A survey of U.S. teens shows that the next generation is still super excited about the iPhone, and more and more are strapping an Apple Watch to their wrists. Analyst firm Piper Sandler’s semi-annual survey of U.S. teens shows that iPhone ownership has remained at 87 percent since the last report, and teens’ iPhone purchase intentions remained at 88 percent.

Since the beginning of 2022, Apple Watch ownership has increased by 1% and now stands at 31%. The percentage of teens surveyed who intend to purchase an Apple Watch has increased by 2 percent to 16 percent.

The survey since the end of 2021 reports a significant increase in Apple Watch ownership at 25% and purchase intent at 14%.

“The 87 percent iPhone ownership rate and 88 percent iPhone purchase intent metrics are both near the all-time highs of our survey.” In its full report, the company said, “We believe the increase in penetration and intent is significant given the mature high-end smartphone market.”

“In addition, these trends are encouraging as the company continues to launch new iPhones, which could provide a significant product cycle refresh, and we believe these positive trends could also serve as a catalyst for further service growth as the installed base of Apple hardware continues to grow.”

One statistic that has dropped since the last report is the percentage of teens using VR. In the early 2022 survey, that percentage was 17%, but it has now dropped to 14%.

For privacy reasons, there has been a similar decline in the percentage of teens currently using Apple Private Relay or those interested in doing so in the next six months. In the first half of 2022, Piper Sandler reported that this percentage was 41 percent, but has now dropped slightly to 39 percent.

Piper Sandler surveyed 14,500 teens from 47 states. Their average age was 15.8, and their average household income was $66,497.

Apple is all set for its far-out event which is going to start a few hours from now. The new 2022 iPhone 14 lineup is expected to launch at the same event. Well, before the event, the Brazil Government reportedly ordered Apple to stop selling their iPhones in the country without chargers. On top of that, the brand has also been fined in the country for providing an incomplete product.

Apple to stop iPhone sales in Brazil; Here’s why?

The Brazilian government reportedly penalised Apple BRL 12.275 million for neglecting to include a charger in the package with its iPhone models, stating that customers were given an unfinished product. According to Reuters, the Brazilian Justice Ministry has ordered Apple to stop selling the iPhone 12 and subsequent versions, as well as other iPhone models that do not include a charger.

The ministry also argued that the absence of the charger was a “deliberate discriminatory conduct against consumers,” and that the iPhone lacked an “essential” component. The Justice Ministry reportedly rejected the company’s reasoning for not including a charger in the box, claiming that there was no evidence of environmental benefits from the absence of a charger.

All the reasons provided by Apple for not including chargers in the box of iPhones have been neglected by the government body and the brand has been ordered to stop selling iPhones in the country. Let’s see what will be the brand take on this order! Will they follow the order or will change their policy of not providing charges in the box?
