Apple officially pushed the iOS 16.5.1 system update this week. A new problem has been brought up: the batteries of users of some models are even less durable.

▲ Source: Apple

Blogger iAppleBytes recently tested the power consumption of several iPhones after upgrading to iOS 16.5.1, including iPhone 8, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone XR, and iPhone SE 2. Except for the iPhone SE 2, which has a battery health of 86%, the rest of the models are above 90%.

▲ Source: Apple

Compared with the previous iOS 16.5, after upgrading to iOS 16.5.1, the battery life of both iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 has been negatively affected. Among them, the battery life of the iPhone 12 has dropped by 9 minutes, and that of the iPhone 13 has dropped by 40 minutes. The older model iPhone 8 has improved battery life by about 30 minutes.

It is noticed that the iPhone 13, which is most troubled by the shrinking battery life problem this time, is one of the only two “lucky” models not affected by the shrinking battery life problem in the last iOS 16.5 update, and the battery life has been improved the most. obvious. iAppleBytes said that after upgrading the device to iOS 16.5, the battery life has been increased by about 30 minutes, but after the iOS 16.5.1 update, the battery life dropped by 40 minutes. Users of this model are advised not to upgrade and wait and see.

According to the latest export data, Apple became the first Indian company to surpass the $1 billion (currently around 6.78 billion CNY, Rs 81 billion) smartphone export milestone in a single month in December last year, and the company just overtook Samsung as India’s largest smartphone exporter in November last year.

Meanwhile, India’s total electronics exports reached US$16.69 billion in December, up 51.56% from US$10.99 billion in the same month last year.

According to the report, the rise in the value of Apple’s exports in India has coincided with the growth in exports of made-in-India electronics, with Indian factories growing by more than 51 percent year-on-year in the last three quarters of 2022.

Apple currently has three major foundries in India – Foxconn, PEGATRON and Wistron – that currently manufacture devices such as the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in India. In addition, Apple has a number of smaller OEMs that also export iPhones from India.

Foxconn and PEGATRON’s Indian factories are located in Tamil Nadu, while Wistron has a branch in Karnataka. According to ET News, these companies will contribute to India’s goal of $9 billion in phone exports by 2023.

Just weeks before the new iPhone launch, sales data from carriers suggest that fewer people are waiting for Apple’s September event to update than in past cycles, and instead are going to buy Apple phones now.

In a note to investors seen by AppleInsider, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee looked at data from Wave7 Research on U.S. carrier sales trends in July. As has been the case in the past, sales of the iPhone 13 model remained high compared to previous iPhone cycles. Chatterjee also said that the higher sales of the iPhone 13 also indicate that fewer people are putting off purchases until the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are released.

Some carrier representatives told Wave7 researchers that this indicates lower consumer interest in iPhone 14 compared to past upgrade cycles, which may be due to limited changes/upgrades in terms of features and the potential for higher iPhone 14 prices. Carrier channel data ahead of the iPhone 13 debut also paints a picture of strong iPhone 12 sales and potentially lower interest in subsequent smartphone models.

In July, Apple’s current share of iPhone products increased across AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Apple took 67 percent share, 67 percent share and 60 percent share in AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, respectively. The carrier data also suggests that Apple’s advertising activity has been seasonally weak through the summer of 2022.

Across all carriers, the iPhone 13 is the most popular Apple phone, with an average of 22 percent market share. It is followed by the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 20 percent, the iPhone 13 Pro with 16 percent, and the iPhone 13 mini with 3 percent. All other iPhones took the remaining 5 percent.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 base model will start at $799, the same entry-level price as last year’s 6.1-inch iPhone 13, according to new information out of East Asia. According to a post by “yeux1122” on the Korean blog Naver, Apple will not raise the price of its upcoming entry-level flagship device to boost sales and offset declining demand in a slowing global smartphone market.

The decision to leave the price of the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 unchanged this year was reportedly made at the “highest executive level,” despite the company facing increased production costs and ongoing supply chain turmoil.

The source of the rumor is said to be an unnamed “major U.S. financial institution” with accurate records, but the claim cannot be independently verified at this time.

If Apple does launch the iPhone 14 at the same entry-level price as last year’s iPhone 13, it will be the second year in a row that Apple’s basic flagship 6.1-inch iPhone model remains the same price. 2020 will see the launch of the base iPhone 12, which will also cost $799.

The big difference this year is that the size of the iPhone is changing and there will not be a 5.4-inch iPhone 14 mini. iPhone 13 mini was the most affordable flagship option in 2021, starting at $699, but it proved unpopular with customers, so Apple is focusing on larger iPhone sizes for its flagship devices in 2022.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone lineup will include the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. Notably, the non-Pro models are not expected to have any major design changes, and there are rumors that they may continue to use the same A15 chip that was introduced in the iPhone 13 series.

This is in stark contrast to the iPhone 14 Pro models, which are expected to feature the faster A16 chip. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will reportedly feature a round punch hole for the front-facing camera and a pill-shaped punch hole for the crucial Face ID component.

The Naver account that posted this information today has been the source of some accurate information in the past, including some details about the iPad mini 6 before its launch.

However, the same account had incorrectly stated that Apple would release an “iPad mini Pro” in the second half of 2021, but that didn’t happen, so we’re taking this latest rumor with a grain of salt until other sources can confirm it.

Today, Apple suddenly launched a special offer on the official website, announcing that between July 29 and August 1, the iPhone 13/12, AirPods series, and many other products are ushering in official discounts. This is also the first time Apple’s official website in China launched special offers, which sparked a lot of buzz and even dominated a few hot searches at one point.

In this, the iPhone 13 full series has the strongest discount activities, all can enjoy a 600 yuan discount, but this is questioned by many netizens is in the clearance of inventory.

After all, the iPhone 14 release is currently just two months away from September, and from the recent supply chain news, the iPhone 14 Pro upgrade is particularly huge and can be said to be the biggest upgrade in the last five years.

One of the most attention-grabbing is the iPhone 14 Pro series will for the first time cancel the bangs screen, which is since the introduction of the iPhone X, Apple’s biggest change to the frontal appearance, will stimulate many users’ desire to change the machine.

And if you are impressed by Apple’s offers to get the iPhone 13 Pro series at this time, then these users may miss out on the major upgrade of the iPhone 14 Pro.

In addition, for large-screen users, the iPhone 14 series also has the new iPhone 14 Max (or iPhone 14 Plus) model available, which is quite cheap compared to the Pro Max version, but except for some extreme users, its experience with the Pro Max will not have a particularly big gap.

Of course, more importantly, this time Apple’s activities are actually slightly less sincere, the concessions are much smaller compared to e-commerce discounts, but the signature 24 interest-free installment was cut, only 12 interest-free periods, which has also been greeted by many users.

In general, it is recommended that non-critical users can wait for the iPhone 14.

Strategy Analytics data shows that during China’s “6.18” online shopping festival, total smartphone sales were 14 million units, down 25 percent year-over-year. Shipments of Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo all declined, but Apple iPhone sales remained relatively stable.

Apple outsold all of its competitors by selling nearly 7 million iPhones during the 618 holiday season, and the company topped all major commercial platforms in terms of revenue share.

The Chinese market mirrors global trends: According to a recent Canalys report, global smartphone shipments fell 9 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2022, while Apple’s iPhone had a 17 percent market share, up 3 percent year-over-year. Samsung’s share of cell phones increased by the same margin to 21 percent, while Chinese vendors Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo saw their market shares fall to 14 percent, 10 percent and 9 percent, respectively.

The data shows surprisingly resilient demand for the iPhone 13 / Pro in China despite widespread supply chain issues and economic headwinds affecting the tech industry. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that demand for Apple’s iPhone 14 series is expected to maintain momentum, especially given Apple’s increased dominance of China’s high-end 5G smartphone market following Huawei’s withdrawal.

Apple is expected to launch the new iPhone 14 series in September this year, and the lineup will include the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to China ICT, in June 2022, the domestic market shipped 28.017 million cell phones, up 9.2% year-on-year, of which 23.027 million were 5G phones, up 16.3% year-on-year and accounting for 82.2% of cell phone shipments in the same period. from January to June 2022, the overall domestic market shipped 136 million cell phones, down 21.7% year-on-year, of which 5G cell phone shipments of 109 million units, down 14.5% year-on-year, accounting for 80.2% of cell phone shipments in the same period.

An iPhone has survived a “bath” in the English Channel after it was lost by a boater off the coast of England. While Apple was touting the water resistance of its iPhone 13, a boater inadvertently tested their device in harsher conditions.

User Van_D00m wrote on Reddit, “After 5 minutes of paddling, the phone sank to the bottom. (7) Several hours later, until the tide went out, it opened up again on its own. I found it, and remarkably, after more than 5 hours in the sea, it was undamaged.”

The time scale is very unclear; the iPhone was reportedly submerged for five hours, while there were seven hours between the accident and the tide receding. It is also unclear what the user meant by “it opened up again on its own”.

What is most likely in this part of the narrative is that once the tide went out, the Find My feature started working again.

But there is still the question of where this happened. iPad’s Find My screenshot mentions that Gingers iPhone is located in the North Atlantic Ocean. However, the map appears to mark the location of user Van_D00m, clearly showing the English Channel and British coastal towns. The user appears to be about 20 miles from the seaside resort of Brighton.

The iPhone survived for 5 to 7 hours completely intact, which is very impressive. But this is far from the longest time an iPhone has been submerged in water. In August 2021, it was reported that a user’s iPhone fell into the River Wye in Gloucestershire, England. It was salvaged and reopened in June of the following year.

While the global smartphone market may have struggled, Apple’s iPhone 13 is still selling well, according to reports. And, the upcoming next-generation product, the iPhone 14, it may do even better. Sources close to the matter said Apple has already started trial production of the iPhone 14 and plans to mass produce it in August. And, Apple has told suppliers that the initial sales of the iPhone 14 when it hits the market will be higher than that of the iPhone 13 a year ago.

This expectation from Apple matches the expectations of Wall Street analysts. Today, a growing number of analysts believe that Apple’s iPhone sales could be better than the smartphone industry as a whole if major economies fall into recession.

Apple focuses on the high-end smartphone market, and analysts believe inflation in core commodities such as food and fuel will have less of an impact on Apple’s relatively affluent user base.

Two people familiar with the matter from the iPhone supply chain said iPhone sales remained strong in July despite signs that overall demand in the smartphone market was cooling off.

One of the people familiar with the matter said one of the factories shipped iPhone 13 in July, which was 1/3 higher than last July. this is very rare because normally, iPhone sales slow down in July and August as consumers are waiting for new models to be released in September.

And another person familiar with the matter said, “In terms of shipments, the iPhone 13 is doing quite well.”

Krish Sankar, an analyst at investment bank Cowen, attributed the iPhone 13’s continued good sales momentum late in its lifecycle in part to “a significant rebound in demand from Chinese consumers.”

In line with previous years’ timeframes, Apple has begun trial production of the iPhone 14, with the goal of mass production in August so that it can be shipped in the fall (September), people familiar with the matter said. For the iPhone 14, Apple is providing initial sales expectations to suppliers that are slightly higher than the iPhone 13 from a year ago.
