Apple will hold a “rapid” press conference on October 31 at which time it may announce some new products, including new Macs and new iPads. Before then, a regulatory database may have revealed some information about the new product.

According to information discovered by MacRumors, last week, two Apple suppliers resubmitted battery information for some existing Apple products to China’s regulatory database, including the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, Mac’s Magic Keyboard and iPad mini. The batteries, all of which had been submitted in 2021 or earlier, were marked with an October 2023 release date when they were resubmitted last week.

The newly submitted battery information is the same as the original battery capacity, which indicates that Apple’s new products will not have battery capacity changes. However, due to the improvement in power consumption efficiency of the new chip, the new product may still provide longer battery life.

The resubmitted battery information may hint at the existence of new products. For example, before the Apple Watch Series 9 was released, the Apple Watch Series 8 battery was found to have been resubmitted to the same regulatory database, and the Series 8 battery was indeed used in the Series 9.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts that the 24-inch iMac will be upgraded to an M3 chip, while the Mac’s Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad accessories will be upgraded from Lightning to USB-C. Apple will include Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse in the iMac box. Gurman also expects the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros to be upgraded to M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.

It is worth noting that the document also includes battery information for the sixth-generation iPad mini, which may mean that the seventh-generation iPad mini will reuse this battery. Gurman reported last week that Apple does not plan to launch a new iPad before 2024, and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said last month that a new iPad release is unlikely before the end of this year. So there’s no guarantee that a new iPad mini will be announced tomorrow.

Apple announced the sixth-generation iPad mini at its September 2021 event. The next-generation model may feature the A16 Bionic chip introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro and may offer improvements to reduce the so-called “jelly roll” phenomenon.

Rumors earlier this month that a new iPad was imminent turned out to be inaccurate. Instead, Apple just announced a lower-priced Apple Pencil with a USB-C port in a press release. This new Apple Pencil will be available in early November, and the new products announced at tomorrow’s event may also be available around the same time.

All in all, the information discovered from the regulatory database is consistent with expected updates to the 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, and 24-inch iMac. Perhaps a new iPad mini will be released as well, but that remains to be seen given that neither Gurman nor Ming-Chi Kuo believe there will be a new iPad released this year.

SuperChargedNews learned from a source familiar with Apple’s media plans that Apple plans to hold a briefing with some media personnel later next week, focusing on new iPad products.

It is said that Apple will announce an update to the iPad product line as early as October 17th. It should be a press release directly issued on the official website and is listed.

Apple last updated its iPad product line in October 2022, launching the iPad Pro equipped with M2 chips and the newly designed iPad 10. Next week’s new products are expected to include iPad mini, iPad Air and entry-level iPad.

It is said that these new iPads will have smaller specifications, but will be equipped with faster chips. Among them, the new generation iPad Air will use the M2 chip, which can achieve an 18% increase in CPU, a 35% increase in GPU, and a 44% increase in NPU compared to the current M1 chip (refer to iPad Pro); while the new iPad mini will use the A16 Bionic chip.

But besides the chip, the new iPad mini/Air may have other changes, but not too many. Therefore, the new iPad Air may still use last year’s design and 10.9-inch LCD display, and it will not support 120Hz ProMotion technology.

Additionally, the new iPad Air’s maximum storage and 8GB of RAM are also likely to remain unchanged. However, another possible upgrade for the new iPad Air is support for Wi-Fi 6E, a technology currently only supported by the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

It is worth mentioning that there are rumors this week that Apple is planning to solve the iPad mini’s “jelly screen” problem, so users who want to buy an iPad mini in the near future can wait.

Naver whistleblower @란즈크 said that Apple is negotiating for future AMOLED display supply channels for iPad mini and iPad Air, involving Samsung Display, LG Display and other Chinese companies (unnamed).

Supply chain sources say Apple aims to begin mass production of these (OLED) components by the end of 2025, suggesting that OLED versions of the iPad mini and iPad Air may debut in early 2026. He also mentioned that Apple decided to select Chinese companies as the target of negotiations from the beginning.

In fact, display panel research firm Omdia released a report earlier this week. Omdia pointed out that Apple’s new OLED iPad Pro will be launched in 2024, including 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, and plans to supply panels from LG Display and Samsung Display.

Omdia analysts pointed out that Apple is considering widespread adoption of OLED technology starting in 2026 and using it for the iPad mini and iPad Air series products. This is also the next stage of Apple’s OLED strategy.

It is reported that 9to5Mac said Apple will release a number of new iPad products in the next few months, including iPad mini 7 and two new iPad Airs. However, the two new iPads feature smaller spec upgrades, focusing on new processors rather than major updates like more advanced display technology.

Apple launched the sixth-generation iPad mini in September 2021 and made a major design upgrade for the series. Foreign technology media MacRumors believes in the latest article that Apple has no urgent need to upgrade the iPad mini, and may choose to launch the seventh-generation iPad mini next year.

The sixth-generation iPad mini uses the A15 Bionic chip. Although Apple has lowered the frequency of the chip on the iPad mini, its performance is at the same level as that of the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, third-generation iPhone SE, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and third-generation Apple TV 4K.

Apple expects to continue selling these six devices with the A15 Bionic chip throughout 2023, which means Apple hopes to extend the life of the A15. The sixth-generation iPad mini supports the second-generation Apple Pencil, and there’s no pressing need for Apple to upgrade the device.

While Apple refreshed the iPad mini every year from 2012 to 2016, updates since then have become more infrequent, with just one minor refresh in March 2019 before a 2021 redesign. Apple has apparently lengthened the update cycle of the iPad mini line, which means that Apple may choose to launch the seventh-generation iPad mini next year.

The Apple iPad mini 6 was released in September 2021, starting at 3,799 CNY for the first time, and it has risen to 3,999 CNY in October last year.

In terms of screen, the new generation of iPad mini adopts an ultra-portable design and is equipped with a larger 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with a screen brightness of up to 500 nits, supports P3 wide color gamut, anti-reflective screen coating, true color display technology, full The laminated display, etc., adopts a full-screen design and integrates Touch ID into the top button.

The iPad mini is equipped with the new A15 Bionic chip, with a 40% increase in CPU and up to 80% increase in GPU performance, making it the most powerful iPad mini ever. In addition, the machine also offers a 5G cellular version, and the 5G model has a download speed of up to 3.5 Gbps.

The Elec reported that Apple plans to axe the iPad Mini product line with a screen size smaller than 10 inches in 2025, and instead launch a foldable iPad product line.

The report highlights Apple’s cooperation with two screen suppliers, Samsung and LG, to jointly develop a 20.25-inch foldable OLED panel.

And at the end of this article, The Elec also reveals a very important piece of information, the following information is translated from Korean and there may be some deviations, please understand.

"After upgrading some of Apple's digital product lines with OLED screens, the company's direction is starting to move toward a foldable form factor. Apple may be the first to launch a foldable iPad product before a 20.25-inch foldable Macbook device is introduced.

Apple is internally developing a foldable digital product with a target release date of 2025, a year after Apple launched its first OLED iPad in 2024. The foldable iPad would replace the current sub-10-inch iPad mini line.

Apple isn't too keen on developing a foldable iPhone internally, and they don't think the advantages of an iPhone when folded are obvious."

Apple has significantly increased the price of existing iPad mini models in non-US markets after updating its online shop with new entry-level iPad and iPad Pro models on Tuesday, MacRumors reports.

In the UK, for example, the 64GB iPad mini is now available for £569, up from £479 earlier in the day, while the 256GB version is available for £749, up from £619 previously. These are price increases of 19% and 21% respectively, making the iPad mini more expensive than the new 10.9-inch iPad, which starts at £499 and £649 for the same capacity.

Similar price increases can be seen across the EU. In Italy, for example, the 64GB and 256GB iPad mini models now sell for €659 and €859 respectively, compared to €559 and €729 previously, an 18 percent price increase.

Markets in India and across the Asia Pacific region have also seen price increases, albeit at a more modest rate in these regions. In Australia, for example, the price of the iPad mini rose by around 11 percent.

Apple did not give a reason for the price increases outside of the US, but it could be related to the strong US dollar combined with inflation and increased costs, although the prices of other devices in Apple’s flagship hardware line-up remained unchanged.
