Meta has previously confirmed that it is working on a mobile version of Horizon World, and the service is currently available on Quest VR devices. According to the latest reports, Meta built a working mobile version last year, but Nishal Shah, deputy director of Metaverse, said in an interview: “We didn’t release it in the end. (Because) it was a bit too similar to the mobile native experience. Mobile VR gaming.”

Shah did not specify when the mobile app would be released. At the end of January, Meta said that the Horizon World service would be coming to mobile devices and the web “soon,” but it has yet to launch.

Shah told Roettgers that Super Rumble, a shooter game that just launched within Horizon World, will be one of the first games tested on Horizon World’s mobile platform. The experience of the game is noticeably better than most other games on the platform, as it’s built using externally imported objects, assets, and textures, something that wasn’t previously possible with Horizon World, the report said. At present, developers designated by Meta can import external resources for development, and this function will be opened to more developers in the future.

It was previously reported that Horizon World was not a successful project for Meta. In October last year, foreign media reported that the platform had fewer than 200,000 users. By comparison, Meta’s recently launched social platform, Threads, surpassed 100 million users in a matter of days.

UploadVR reports that Meta is working to expand the types of virtual world content allowed to be produced for Horizon Worlds. Compared to the old policy seen on Time Machine in April, the recent update has allowed creators to offer “Mature” content previously banned by Horizon Worlds.

Horizon Worlds creators have reportedly received an email reminding them that they must manually rate their content or be listed as 18+ by default.

The old Meta policy page explicitly disallowed Horizon Worlds creators from listing visual content that contained sexual references, depictions of controlled substances or activities such as marijuana and alcohol, and visual content of a violent nature.

Meta used to only allow Horizon Worlds to host “young and old” content

But now, it seems that by flagging it as “needing to meet the 18+ age requirement for a mature mind”, the content has a chance to pass Horizon Worlds’ platform review.

Of course, the Mature rating doesn’t mean that everything is off-limits. For example, while “sexually explicit” content is allowed, “near-nudity and overly suggestive” content, as well as “nudity and depictions of explicit locations” will always be rejected.

Second, controlled substances and violent acts — such as the promotion of addictive substances like marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco abuse, gambling activities, and content that is too bloody and violent — are still not allowed on the Horizon Worlds platform.

Finally, the public and creators still feel some ambiguity about the platform’s red line boundaries because the current version of the policy is not well described. Not to mention that the lifting of the ban in a few regions (like Flyleaf) does not mean that it is allowed by default in all states across the US.
