According to a report by overseas reporter Janko Roettgers, the mobile version of Meta’s long-developed VR Metaverse service “Horizon World” may be launched soon.

Meta has previously confirmed that it is working on a mobile version of Horizon World, and the service is currently available on Quest VR devices. According to the latest reports, Meta built a working mobile version last year, but Nishal Shah, deputy director of Metaverse, said in an interview: “We didn’t release it in the end. (Because) it was a bit too similar to the mobile native experience. Mobile VR gaming.”
Shah did not specify when the mobile app would be released. At the end of January, Meta said that the Horizon World service would be coming to mobile devices and the web “soon,” but it has yet to launch.
Shah told Roettgers that Super Rumble, a shooter game that just launched within Horizon World, will be one of the first games tested on Horizon World’s mobile platform. The experience of the game is noticeably better than most other games on the platform, as it’s built using externally imported objects, assets, and textures, something that wasn’t previously possible with Horizon World, the report said. At present, developers designated by Meta can import external resources for development, and this function will be opened to more developers in the future.
It was previously reported that Horizon World was not a successful project for Meta. In October last year, foreign media reported that the platform had fewer than 200,000 users. By comparison, Meta’s recently launched social platform, Threads, surpassed 100 million users in a matter of days.
