In the United States, after the California Right to Repair Act landed in effect, Google recently confirmed to The Verge media, that the user’s Pixel Watch screen once broken, at this stage can not provide repair services.

A Google spokesperson said, “At this time, we do not have any repair options for Google Pixel Watch Watches. After your watch encounters damage, you can contact Google Pixel Watch customer service to check for replacement options.”

The Google Store does not offer an extended warranty option for Pixel Watch Watches, and once a user’s watch screen is accidentally damaged, there will be no official screen replacement repair option.

iFixit said in its disassembly of the Pixel Watch that although it is difficult to replace the screen, it is completely repairable from a technical point of view, and provided a tutorial on how to replace the cracked and broken screen.

Google’s Pixel Watch, the first smartwatch from the company, has a special feature called fall detection. When a user has a heavy fall, the watch asks if the user needs medical assistance and automatically makes an emergency call, and Google detailed the work behind how it developed this feature in its Keyword blog.

Google’s product lead, Paras Unadkat, said that understanding what constitutes a “hard fall” requires collecting a lot of data and training artificial intelligence models to distinguish between different types of movement patterns. To do this, Google sought help from universities and labs that were already studying the phenomenon of falls, and built devices to simulate falls and observe people’s reactions when they lose their balance and used computer vision to try to visualize different types of falls.

In addition, Google took into account physics, such as the different limb lengths and body sizes of humans. To better train the sensors inside the watch, Google also brought in stuntmen to actually fall to the ground. There are many tiny sensors inside the watch that not only sense the user’s movement but also monitor their heart rate, steps and sleep, and these sensors recognize the typical reactions of the human body in the event of a hard fall.

Google said that during the development process, a lot of testing was also conducted to ensure that the watch would not misjudge the user’s daily activities as emergencies. For example, jumping, swimming and doing push-ups and other high-intensity activities, the watch was able to remain “calm” and identify these as routine movements.

The last step is to allow users to get help quickly. Google says it has been testing its fall detection feature for more than a year, involving hundreds of people, before officially releasing the Pixel Watch. Google also worked with the emergency community to test the quality of calls when the watch automatically dials to ensure that the voice is clear and well-informed.

The Pixel Watch launched last fall and only gained fall detection in late February. After a hard fall, the watch displays two options: “I’m hurt & need help” and “I’m okay. If the user has the Wi-Fi version of the watch, they will need to be in range of their phone’s Bluetooth connection to contact emergency services.

In addition to fall detection, the Pixel Watch also adds other health and safety features in the latest June 2023 update, including enabling the SpO2 sensor to monitor the user’s blood oxygen levels.

Google today announced the June 2023 update for Pixel Watch watches, but if users haven’t checked in on their smartwatches yet, don’t panic, because Google says the update will “roll out in phases over the next week. Bug fixes, security patches and other improvements.

The release log states that this update includes “the latest security patches, bug fixes, and improvements for Pixel Watch users” and that the version number is RWDC.230605.004, which allows users to go to the Settings menu and then Go to the “System” section and then the “System Updates” menu will pop up to check for updates to download.

The current Pixel Watch watches run Wear OS 3.5, but Google has announced Wear OS 4 and future plans for the platform during Google I/O 2023, showing off the new Watch Face Format tool, which will make it easier for developers to design and maintain Wear OS dials and more.

Google Pixel Watch first appeared at Google I / O 2022 in May 2022 and was officially released in October of the same year, priced at $349.99, with a round dial and unique strap connection axis, supporting deep Fitbit integration; equipped with a 294mAh battery, a single charge can be used for 24 hours of use on a single charge, and supports fast charging, allowing it to be charged to 50% in 30 minutes.

In the eight-year history of MVNO ( mobile virtual network operator ) service, Google Fi ushered in another name change. To celebrate the new Google Fi Wireless name, Google has added smartwatch connectivity, a week-long eSIM trial, and an updated app for easier subscription navigation.

The Wireless program now supports not only the Pixel Watch but also the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series. Support for all smart wearables is expanding to Unlimited subscriptions; previously, it was only available for Unlimited Plus and Flexible. These devices can stay connected without a phone at no extra cost.

Adding a new line to any subscription will give you a phone — choose a Samsung Galaxy A14, Pixel 6A or Moto G Power. However, the phones should remain on the plan for the next 24 months, and the value of the device will be reimbursed through monthly bill credits. Canceling a subscription early means users have to pay the phone price based on the remaining time.

The Google Fi Wireless app is more family-friendly, allowing owners to limit who can call or text kids in the same group. The redesigned app is still rolling out and is expected to roll out to all users in the next few months.

The wearable device alarm clock is very sensitive, the user will feel the wrist in vibration. Some Google Pixel Watch watch user’s feedback, set the alarm clock will be delayed a few minutes to “ring”.

The most common issue involves alarms powered by the Google Clock app on Pixel Watch. Delay times ranged from 1 minute to less than 10 minutes, with fewer users reporting alarms firing a few minutes earlier. This doesn’t seem to be an ongoing or daily problem but happens suddenly.

These scenarios usually involve getting out of bed in the morning. As a result, the Google Pixel Watch was previously in sleep mode or inactive. The issue may be related to the device being in deep sleep. Not expected to be related to a specific software update. But Google officials have not yet responded.

The Google Pixel Watch also lacks Smart Wake on Fitbit, a feature that “attempts to find the best time to start waking up 30 minutes before the alarm time set by the user. Wakes the user up, so the user is more likely to wake up feeling refreshed. If Smart Wake can’t find the best time to wake up, the alarm clock will remind you of the set time.”

Google said in a blog post released today that it has launched a fall detection function for the Pixel Watch smartwatch. The watch’s built-in motion sensors can use machine learning to determine the severity of a fall and provide emergency handling.

After the Pixel Watch smartwatch detects a fall, if the wearer does not respond within 30 seconds, the Pixel Watch will vibrate, sound an alarm and display an on-screen notification to check if the user is OK.

The on-screen notification asks the wearer to tap “I’m OK” or “I fell & need help,” depending on their condition. If the latter is selected, emergency services will be called to provide assistance.

If the user still has not acted on the screen, the watch alarm will continue to sound for one minute, becoming louder each time. If there is no response, emergency services will be called automatically.

Google Pixel watches received its first OTA update last December, but there were still some issues to fix. Google has now released the January update for the watch and will be rolling it out gradually.

The main bug fix for this release involves third-party watch faces – those that used to shut off after 15 minutes, even if the user had the Always On Display (AOD) enabled. This issue seems to be limited to older watch faces not using the new Jetpack watch face library.

The update also includes the January 5th security patch. Firmware version RWD9.220429.073 (and .J1 for Japan and Taiwan).

One other change is that the fall detection function has been hidden. This feature isn’t quite ready yet and hasn’t been fully tested, so showing up in the watch menu early was a mistake. Fall detection is expected to be truly enabled within the next few months.
