According to foreign technology media piunikaweb, Google plans to introduce the “Look and Sign” function on the Pixel Tablet to enhance the interactive experience between users and device AI.

Google has introduced the “Look and Talk” function on the Nest Hub Max. This technology uses the device’s camera. The user does not need to say the “OK Google” wake-up word, but only needs to speak to the Nest Hub Max in the designated area. Respond to user needs.

The outlet dug into the Google Search 15.15 Beta version code and discovered the “Look and Sign” feature, which was described in “Assistant on Hub Mode” after being force-enabled.

The “Look and Sign” feature provides a new interactive experience for Pixel Tablet users, introducing gestures as an alternative to spoken commands. The screenshots as follows:

Users may soon be able to interact with Google Assistant through simple gestures, such as a thumbs up or other obvious actions. This approach can simplify the way users interact with the device, making the process more intuitive and less dependent on spoken language.

In addition, the media also speculated that this may be an accessibility feature that mainly serves users who use sign language to enhance the interactive experience of these users.

Mishaal Rahman, a Twitter blogger who focuses on discovering new features of the Android system, has recently made new discoveries. He published a long article on the X platform (Twitter), saying that the Pixel Tablet has added support for the USI 2.0 (an open standard released by the Universal Stylus Alliance in March 2022) stylus. After connecting the stylus to the Pixel Tablet, users can see two new options: the default note-taking app, and writing in the text box.

Mishaal Rahman claims that the screenshots in his article (below) came from an “informant” who owns a Pixel Tablet and a USI 2.0 stylus, but the informant said that the stylus functionality of the Gboard input method is temporarily unavailable, which may be related to Device compatibility is still not perfect.

▲ Screenshot provided by “Informant”

After clicking “Write in Text Box”, you can open the stylus settings of the Gboard input method, and the user can change the handwriting speed and stroke width. At the same time, the user can click “Try it” to open the text box to display and experience the gestures of the stylus, including writing, deleting, selecting, entering, conjunctions and line breaks.

▲ The picture shows the gesture operation interface after opening “Try it”

According to previous reports, Mishaal Rahman discovered in June this year that the native Android 14 Beta 3 operating system is expected to add more functional support for the stylus.

In the screenshot posted by @MishaalRahman, the code mentions the “primary”, “secondary”, “tertiary” and “tail” buttons of the stylus, and the description of the “tail” button also specifically emphasizes that “this button does not usually correspond to the eraser function”. When he sent the “tail” keycode of the stylus, Android 14 Beta 3 will display a toast message and prompt “Set default notes in the ‘Settings App'”. @MishaalRahman believes that this “tail” button will launch the default note-taking application.

According to DigiTimes reports, it was learned from supply chain sources that Google is currently considering developing a foldable tablet device, which is expected to be released at next year’s I/O Developers Conference.

Google is currently considering it, and has not started related development work internally, nor has it planned an existing roadmap for the future.

The report only said that if Google were to launch a foldable tablet, it would become a heavyweight product at the I/O Developers Conference next year.

Samsung has shown off Android-based concepts for foldable screens, but none of those have made it to market.

It was previously reported that Apple is currently developing a 20-inch foldable device with Samsung Display and LG Display.

Baek Seung-in revealed at the event that he is currently working with LG Display to develop a foldable 20-inch tablet and notebook hybrid device for Apple, but he said it will take longer to prepare.

Ross Young said in February that Apple is developing a 20.5-inch foldable laptop that could be released as soon as 2025.

Google is rolling out an update to its Recorder app that offers a UI better suited for larger screens before it goes on sale next month with the Google Pixel Tablet tablet and Pixel Fold phone, according to 9to5 Google.

Google Recorder’s previous tablet UI was just a landscape mode for phones. On the home screen, there is now a two column layout for saving recordings, and the large FAB is now located in the bottom right corner instead of being centralized in a dedicated column for that button.

When viewing recordings, Google displays waveforms and transcripts side-by-side instead of having to choose one over the other, similar to the web version of recorder.google.com layout, with a redesigned Material You; the playback controls have been moved to the bottom corner and are now side-by-side instead of stacked, and there are large buttons for editing, with similar optimizations in the bottom left corner.

Finally, the recording UI has switched to the same two-column layout for waveform and text recording, as well as buttons, and the time has been moved to the bottom left corner.

Google Recorder version 4.2.20230427.530752515 (as opposed to 4.2.20230419.x) is now available through the Play Store. Since the Pixel Tablet and Fold are not yet available, users can test the Google Recorder update by increasing the DPI to 600+ in the developer options.

Google has updated more than 50 first-party apps ahead of the upcoming Recorder app, with apps like Gmail (navigation bar), Google Calendar and Weather still waiting to get updates.

Google showed off the unreleased Pixel Tablet at Milan Design Week 2023 last month, confirming that it has a pink/coral color. The shade looks more like a light pink than a coral. You can see the front design of the Pixel Tablet, with a white border and a front-facing camera at the top center, and a USB Type-C port and speaker grill on the left side of the tablet.

The image also shows a series of Pixel Tablet wallpapers, the same ones Google has already released, these are bird-themed wallpapers for the Pixel 7 series, and the icons are also themed in different colors, for example, the pink Pixel Tablet The computer’s wallpaper is color-coordinated with the theme icons and gadgets. Since Material You, Google’s design framework will also be used on the Pixel Tablet, the wallpapers are customizable.

In its latest tweet, reliable source Snoopy Tech has shared a high-definition render of Google’s Pixel Tablet. The image shows the tablet with a dedicated physical button for privacy control.

Google’s Pixel Tablet can double up as a Smart Display, which basically comes with a button to control privacy. When the privacy button is enabled, sensors such as the microphone will be turned off.

The tablet device (model GTU8P) has previously appeared in the FCC and UL Solutions databases, revealing more details. (UWB is known as Ultra Wide Band, an ultra-wideband wireless carrier communication technology)

Google will also launch a docking station for the tablet similar to the Nest Hub Max, which magnetically connects and secures the Pixel tablet and charges it via four pogo-pin contacts.

The new Google Pixel tablet was previewed last year during the launch of the Pixel 7 series, announced to be released sometime this year.

Now the tablet device (model number GTU8P) has appeared in the FCC and UL Solutions databases, revealing more details. (UWB is known as Ultra Wide Band, an ultra-wideband wireless carrier communication technology)

So far, UWB has been used relatively sparingly on the Google Pixel line, mainly to allow the phone to be used as a digital car key, a task that the bulky tablet may not do well. Google may be preparing the Pixel tablets to work with a “tap to transfer” system on Android, such as streaming music, for example.

On the other hand, UL Solutions mentioned that the tablet supports 18W charging, and hinted that there will be a docking station. The docking station requires a 30W charger, but it’s not clear if it will deliver more than 18W of power to the tablet.

This is consistent with previous speculation that the tablet supports a new dock that can also double as a speaker, essentially turning the Pixel Tablet into a smart display.

Google is expected to release the new Pixel tablet at the Google I / O developer conference in May this year.
