Google Pixel 6/7 phone users reported that after upgrading to the Android 14 update, the overheating problem of the phone was alleviated.

Google released the Android 14 stable version update for Pixel phones earlier this month, and the update log did not mention mitigating phone overheating.

However, according to feedback from Reddit users, after upgrading to Android 14, the Pixel 6/7 series models no longer run too hot and run more smoothly. Users also reported that battery life has also been improved.

Note: Google’s Tensor G1 and Tensor G2 are manufactured on Samsung’s 5nm node, which is less efficient than TSMC-based chips. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 and Gen 2 chipsets are based on TSMC’s 4nm node and run much cooler.

Google launched every year the Pixel models have a variety of hardware problems. Following feedback from users that the camera lens on the back of the body cracked for no reason, users of the Pixel 7 series are again giving feedback that the volume buttons on the side of the body are falling off.

According to a report by Android Central, user Nicholas Sutrich was taking a walk in the woods and pulled his Pixel 7 Pro out of his pocket, but noticed that the volume button was stuck to the screen and not fixed to the side.

Sutrich said he takes great care of the phone and uses the Pixel 7 Pro mainly at home, only occasionally taking it out to take photos. The Reddit community and Twitter social media found that there are many Pixel 7 users with the same problem, which means there are indeed some problems with the workmanship of the Google Pixel 7.

On Thursday, Google officially unveiled the Pixel 7 series of smartphones, confirming all the rumors that had been floating around. But while it brought the expected specs, features, and pricing strategy, there were concerns about the Pixel 7 / 7 Pro’s face unlock experience and whether it would match the iPhone’s Face ID solution.

Now, Google has confirmed this. It’s clear that face unlocks on the Pixel 7 is inferior to Apple’s competitors, and even to the Pixel 4 from a few years ago.

The limitation of the Pixel 7 is that it doesn’t come with proper 3D face recognition – if that’s a problem for you, think twice before you buy.

The Face ID solution on the iPhone is said to be quite useful. Not only can it be used to unlock the phone, but it can also be used to quickly sign in to services and apps, and it is extremely difficult to bypass attacks.

On the other hand, the 2D face unlock feature on Android, despite being quite popular, has a serious security shortcoming – it can be easily spoofed by photos.

Even though the Pixel 7 / 7 Pro introduces a more advanced version of Face Unlock, it’s still not as inherently secure as Face ID.

That’s why Google only allows users to set up Face Unlock on the Pixel 7, and can’t use it for authentication on related services or apps.

It’s worth noting that Google has paired the Pixel 7’s front-facing camera with machine learning capabilities, but the company isn’t confident enough to open up the face unlock-based app login experience.

The benefit of this is that it completely eliminates attacks against face unlock to secure sensitive accounts such as internet banking, the downside is that the login experience isn’t as seamless as the iPhone. The experience based on the under-screen fingerprint recognition sensor, however, is still quite impressive.

Finally, Google has classified the Pixel 7’s face unlock feature as a “Class 1” biometric and confirmed to Android Police that it is limited to the phone unlock experience.

It’s not known when face unlock will arrive on the Pixel 6 Pro. But if you’re worried about hacking the feature, you can also choose to disable it right on your phone.

Compared to last year’s Pixel 6 series smartphones, the new Pixel 7 series, which was officially announced this week, brings a number of improvements. For those who like to get creative on their phones, one of the surprises that comes with the Pixel 7 / 7 Pro is 10-bit HDR video support. The latest news is that both Snapchat and TikTok will support this new feature on the Pixel 7 smartphones – and both apps are the first to do so on the Android platform.

While not exactly a sensation, the move at least kicks off support for 10-bit HDR video within the Android ecosystem, with more devices/apps likely to support enhanced quality video in the future.

As Esper’s Mishaal Rahman notes, this is probably one of the main reasons why Android 13 mobile OS introduced SDR dimming and the Camera2 API supports HDR shooting.

TikTok and Snapchat are both said to use the Camera2 API. This means that the apps in question tap directly into the camera viewfinder to capture video, rather than recording it normally and then importing it into the app.

What’s more, TikTok and Snapchat users will not only be able to record HDR videos, they will also be able to watch them on the new Pixel 7 series.

The importance of SDR dimming is that other UI elements don’t look discordant in terms of colour or contrast.

Unfortunately, this feature is currently only available to companies that work with Google. We’ll have to wait and see how it develops.

During Thursday’s Made by Google event, Google officially unveiled its Pixel 7 series of flagship smartphones. The Pixel 7, which maintains its $599 starting price, seems more attractive than competitors like the $799 Apple iPhone 14 and the $800 Samsung Galaxy S22. While the pricing is the same as last year’s Pixel 6, consumers’ budgets may also be downgraded in the face of pressures such as a sluggish economy and inflation.

In terms of features, the Pixel 7 not only uses a second-generation custom Tensor SoC, but also features an improved zoom, face unlock, and a slightly updated look.

Of course, even with the $200 price difference from the Pixel 7, many consumers will be more than happy to pay for some of the additional features.

For example, the Samsung Galaxy S22 comes with a telephoto lens, while Google’s $899 Pixel 7 Pro model has a similar optical zoom.

In terms of software updates, Samsung has committed to four years, while the Google Pixel 7 has only three.

As for the iPhone 14, Apple has introduced a number of security features to this new generation, including crash detection (later than the Google Pixel) and satellite SOS emergency messaging.

Finally, the 2017 iPhone 8 and iPhone X models also received the iOS 16 update this year.

Google says users will be able to use the Pixel 7 to go back through its Google Photos library and fix old blurry photos using a feature called Photo Unblur. So far, the feature is exclusive to Google’s latest phones and is similar to the Magic Eraser feature introduced with the Pixel 6.

As with features designed to remove distractions from images, the results of Photo Unblur shown by Google in its demo were a little less than impressive but impressive enough, like the photo in the tweet below. As with many of the Pixel 7’s features, the company says this image processing is made possible by its next-generation Tensor G2 processor.

The company also promises that this technology will be used in photos taken with the Pixel 7, and says that its denoising technology will allow its new phone to take images “twice as fast” in low light.

Google has previously focused on reducing blur in the Pixel range; the Pixel 6 included a feature called Face Blur Removal, which uses multiple exposures to ensure that the faces in the photos it takes are clear, even if the rest of the photo has motion blur. Of course, in the Pixel 6 era, there is no effect on photos taken in the past.

Google is set to launch the Pixel 7 series on October 6, and we’ve seen enough information about both upcoming devices over the past few months. Some of it was through leaks, some of it was through Google itself, and now the entire spec sheet for the upcoming phones has leaked online, and of course, no one will be surprised to learn that the Pixel is a lukewarm product.

Google News Telegram posted a supposed spec sheet for the Pixel 7 series over the weekend, and it came from a follower who found it on a Taiwanese carrier’s website. The spec sheet has some new and previously leaked details that show everything you need to know about the upcoming Android flagship and needless to say, the Pixel 7 series is a lot like the Pixel 6 series.

Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro come with a Tensor G2 chip, will be sold in 128 or 256G storage capacities, have an IP68 protection rating, and both support face-unlock and fingerprint unlock. The camera configurations on the two phones differ but some sensors are the same: a 50-megapixel primary rear camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 10.8-megapixel selfie camera that can record 4K video.

The Pixel 7 Pro gets this designation because of the enhanced features of the non-Pro model: a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED screen (LTPO, 120Hz), 12G of RAM, and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera with its own 5x optical zoom and 30x “high resolution” zoom, with autofocus support for the wide-angle camera. Users will get a motion blur option for movies, as well as a macro focus mode.

The standard version offers a 6.3-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, 8G of RAM, and no telephoto lens, only a wide-angle lens with a fixed focal length.

Both phones are also said to come with wired and wireless fast charging, however, the new leak doesn’t state the charging speed at first, but when you look at the fine print in the image, you’ll see that the Pixel 7 supports 21W fast charging and the Pixel 7 Pro has 23W, which is arguably far behind compared to some other offerings on the market.

The coming Google Pixel 7 series is to come with support for better audio performance with Bluetooth LE Audio. This new feature will bring higher audio connectivity thanks to the device’s operating system. Among the devices that will gain support for this feature will be the Pixel 7a, 7, and 7 Pro.

The Bluetooth LE Audio feature simply helps audio devices such as earbuds to connect with multiple devices at the same time. This in turn will help a user to get important notifications from other devices when they are connected to another. It also helps to take away the stress of disconnecting and reconnecting to different devices.

In more simple terms, Bluetooth LE Audio helps more than one device to connect to an audio device and seamlessly share audio content. But, the Pixel 7 series will take the support for this feature to a whole new level. At this moment, Android 13 brings support to this feature by default, hence not maximizing the performance of this system.

On its part, the Google Pixel 7 series will support a higher bandwidth than what Android 13 supports by default. This bandwidth is the LC3 audio codec, which is the same that the Bluetooth LE Audio supports. For now, there are not many audio devices that are available that support LC3 audio codec. As more manufacturers launch new audio devices or update existing ones, they will all gain support for this feature.
