A pre-installed custom ArcaneOS Pixel 4a phone surfaced in 2021 and was used by the FBI for global operations to trap criminals. After 2 years, the Pixel 6a phone pre-installed with FBI customized ROM is exposed again, the device is pre-installed with 3 apps, and the BootLoader cannot be unlocked just like the previous Pixel 4a.

The internal version number of this FBI customized ROM is TP1A.220624.021.A1.2022121400, which is similar to the version number of the September update of GrapheneOS and may be a customized ROM based on GrapheneOS.

The FBI custom ROM for the Pixel 6a includes the September security patch, the baseband version is 220720, and the BootLoader version is bluejay-1.2-8893284, so the device was produced immediately after the Pixel 6a was shipped.

The whole initial setup process is the same as a normal AOSP-based custom ROM, we first select the language. Then we enter the date and time information. Then it will check the SIM card. After this step, we will be asked to create a passcode for the device.

Although the FBI is a US agency, the device has a CE barcode on the back and the model number is G1AZG. According to the Google Tensor source code, the G1AZG model number is specific to the European Union.

Google started testing 5G support for Pixel phones in India with the Android 13 QPR Beta 2 update in January this year. With the success of the Beta test, Google is now rolling out the March Pixel feature update, which brings various fixes in addition to 5G network support for India.

This update enables the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6a to connect to Jio and Airtel’s 5G network. Once installed, 5G will be automatically enabled (you should see “5G” in the status bar once the phone is connected to the network).

How to activate 5G on Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro or Pixel 6a:

Go to Settings on your Pixel phone.

Click Network and Internet.

Select a 5G-enabled SIM card and click Network Preferences.

Three options will then be shown – 5G, LTE and 3G. Click to select 5G.

After a few seconds, you will be able to use 5G service on your Pixel phone.

Other features in the March feature update include support for faster Night Sight shots on the Pixel 7 series phones, Health Connect, fall detection for the Pixel Watch, and some features enabled on older models.

One of the more interesting changes is that users can enable two eSIMs at the same time on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. However, this is only available for some operators and it has not been confirmed whether Jio India and Airtel are among them.

Google’s new Pixel 7 and 7 Pro smartphones, as well as the Pixel 6a released earlier last year, still don’t support 5G networks in India, even though they are officially on sale there. Google said Apple also only recently updated its iPhone phone system to support 5G networks in India, as did Samsung. Nonetheless, the search giant is still a bit behind schedule.

In an official statement, Google promised to roll out a 5G-enabled OTA update sometime in the first quarter of 2023. The initial timeline was last December, but Google apparently jumped the gun.

In the statement, Google said it is working closely with Indian operators to enable next-generation connectivity and comply with local regulations and standards. Xiaomi is also working on the update, and it has a number of 5G-enabled phones in India.

After upgrading to Android 13 Beta 4.1, Tushar Mehta, editor of foreign tech media SlashGear, reported that the Pixel 6a is “very slow” to unlock. The update also seems to have broken the ability for users to add fingerprints, with a constant “unable to process fingerprint” error.

Mehta wrote in a tweet, “The Pixel 6A still works with the fingerprint feature after getting the Android 13 update, but the recognition process is very slow. If you try to add a new fingerprint after deleting the old one, you’ll often encounter the error message ‘Unable to process fingerprint’.

So far, the only way to fix this issue is to roll back the Pixel 6a to a stable version of Android 12. It’s important to note here that any beta software from Google comes with a disclaimer indicating that errors may occur because the system is (by definition) still in beta. This issue will likely be resolved when the phone receives the official version of Android 13 later this year.

Today, Google pushed out a security patch update for the Pixel 6a. The Pixel 6a has been tested by blogger Ranjit, and the fingerprint vulnerability that existed in the Google Pixel 6a has not been fixed, so there is no big difference if it is not updated. Ranjit said that after the Google Pixel 6a update, the left thumb can still unlock the phone, which only recorded the fingerprint information of his right thumb.
Prior to this, several bloggers found that the Google Pixel 6a screen fingerprint described as false, different people were able to unlock the same Pixel 6a, and different fingers of the same person were able to unlock the phone.

From this update, Google did not solve the problem, it seems that this vulnerability will be fixed next month at the earliest.

It’s worth noting that Google has opened the Pixel 6a Android 13 Beta update and will be the first to try the official version later this year, which is the first mid-range model to be adapted to Android 13.

The Google Pixel 6a is currently on sale overseas, priced at INR 43,999 (6GB+128GB, about RMB 3,700) in India.

Google Pixel 6a has previously opened reservations on July 21, and will be officially launched on July 28, priced at 459 euros (about 3162.51 yuan) or 399 pounds (about 3231.9 yuan) in Europe. Some Indian bloggers have gotten the phone in advance, but found that the machine has serious security problems and can unlock the phone even without a fingerprint recorded.

According to Indian blogger Geekyranjit test, only one of his two thumbs recorded fingerprints, but both thumbs can unlock the phone, after that he also tested the Nothing Phone (1) with the same conditions, but the fingerprint test result of Nothing Phone (1) is normal.

Another blogger, Beebom, even found that multiple people without fingerprints were able to unlock his Google Pixel 6a after testing, so the security of the phone was not guaranteed at all.

Last year’s Google Pixel 6 had a similar problem, fingerprint recognition was slow, and there was also feedback from a user that his wife’s finger was not recorded into the fingerprint could also unlock his phone, which was eventually found to be caused by a substandard screen protector, although this year’s Google Pixel 6a uses a different fingerprint sensor, but how common this potential security problem is remains to be seen.

The Google Pixel 6a features a 6.1-inch FullHD+ 60Hz OLED screen protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The center of the screen has a punch-out for the 8MP selfie camera and supports under-screen fingerprinting. The back of the device features a horizontal bar with an LED flash and two cameras: a 12.2-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera. Other highlights include a self-developed TenSor processor, stereo speakers, IP67 dust and water resistance rating, 5G connectivity, and a built-in 4410 mAh battery with 18W charging support.

The new Pixel 6a smartphone appears to have a major security flaw. Apparently, the phone can also be unlocked with an unregistered fingerprint. Indian YouTubers Geekyranjit and Beebom raised this issue in their respective videos.

This is a major security flaw in the Pixel 6a, which will be sold in India through Flipkart starting July 28. The phone is “Made by Google” and comes with a Tensor M2 co-processor to ensure security. But is the Pixel 6a really secure? Whether this is a bug that can be fixed with a software update or a hardware issue, the company hasn’t confirmed. For now, the Pixel 6a can be unlocked with a fingerprint that isn’t even registered. While in 2 videos, only the same person’s unregistered fingerprint can be seen with this flaw, Beebom’s video shows that anyone can unlock the device. The latter video shows that multiple people can unlock the Pixel 6a. The security of this phone can be compromised by anyone.

This did not go well for Google, as it is selling a smartphone in India after a two-year gap. In addition, the Pixel 6a is not cheap. The phone is priced at Rs. 43,999 in India. To recap, the phone features a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED panel with a refresh rate of 60Hz, HDR support, and Corning Gorilla 3 glass protection. the Pixel 6a is powered by Google’s internal Tensor chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The device is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance and runs Android 12 right out of the box.

In terms of photography, it sports a dual 12.2MP wide-angle camera + 12MP super wide-angle setup at the back and an 8MP selfie camera at the front. The phone is powered by a 4,306mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.

The arrival of the Google Pixel 6a was already confirmed and Google announced that much on the Google I/O 2022. The mid-range smartphone has a release date of 28th July. But it looks like, someone in Malaysia has already purchased this device, and as expected, has done a full hands-on.

Google surely didn’t expect this to happen. The YouTuber Fazil Halim posted the hands-on video on YouTube with the title, Google Pixel 6a Arrives in Malaysia! It is a usual 11 minutes hands-on video, showing off the latest offering from Google.

Google Pixel 6a Hands-On by Fazil Halim

The video begins with the unboxing of the device. This is the same Pixel 6a that Google unveiled at the I/O 2022 event on May 11th. Then the video goes on to show the rest of the device. The video provides a high-resolution look at the back of the device. The video also offered a detailed comparison with the flagship Google Pixel 6 Pro. This is where things become more apparent as the camera bar is not as tall as the Pixel 6 Pro.

The video also showed a good look at the 3D thermoformed composite back paired with the tactile alloy frame. It also confirms the rumor that the Pixel 6a will have a glossy plastic back. However, the back is prone to fingerprints. The part where it merges into the frame looks quite good and tight.

Almost at the end of the video, a demo was shown for the Pixel 6a’s under-display fingerprint sensor. It looked fast enough. However, some might say the sensors on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were faster.

Lastly, the camera. The video showed a good look at the Google camera and performed a straightforward shutter demo. But at the moment, it is not clear if the device is using the final version of the software or if there will be a day one update in late July. The video doesn’t mention the security version running on the device.

Google Pixel 6a specs (Confirmed)

Now, keeping up the Pixel trend, Google has finally announced the mid-range addition to the Pixel 6 series, Google Pixel 6a. The device has an overall similar design compared to that of the Pixel 6.

The Pixel 6a is sporting a 6.1” display with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The screen size is smaller than the Pixel 6 and it is only covered with Gorilla Glass 3. These type of compromises has helped Google to lower the price of the Pixel 6a.
