The arrival of the Google Pixel 6a was already confirmed and Google announced that much on the Google I/O 2022. The mid-range smartphone has a release date of 28th July. But it looks like, someone in Malaysia has already purchased this device, and as expected, has done a full hands-on.
Google surely didn’t expect this to happen. The YouTuber Fazil Halim posted the hands-on video on YouTube with the title, Google Pixel 6a Arrives in Malaysia! It is a usual 11 minutes hands-on video, showing off the latest offering from Google.
The video begins with the unboxing of the device. This is the same Pixel 6a that Google unveiled at the I/O 2022 event on May 11th. Then the video goes on to show the rest of the device. The video provides a high-resolution look at the back of the device. The video also offered a detailed comparison with the flagship Google Pixel 6 Pro. This is where things become more apparent as the camera bar is not as tall as the Pixel 6 Pro.
The video also showed a good look at the 3D thermoformed composite back paired with the tactile alloy frame. It also confirms the rumor that the Pixel 6a will have a glossy plastic back. However, the back is prone to fingerprints. The part where it merges into the frame looks quite good and tight.
Almost at the end of the video, a demo was shown for the Pixel 6a’s under-display fingerprint sensor. It looked fast enough. However, some might say the sensors on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were faster.
Lastly, the camera. The video showed a good look at the Google camera and performed a straightforward shutter demo. But at the moment, it is not clear if the device is using the final version of the software or if there will be a day one update in late July. The video doesn’t mention the security version running on the device.
