According to the Korean media Naver report, Samsung plans to use a “water drop” hinge design for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, providing a softer curve in the folded state, thus reducing screen creases and reducing the risk of the screen cracking.

Samsung has been improving the crease area since the commercialization of foldable devices, especially on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, with a “U” shaped hinge design. In the case of the domestic OPPO Find N2, for example, the “teardrop” hinge design reduces pressure on the screen, and the crease is not particularly noticeable in the unfolded state.

Samsung acquired the “teardrop” hinge design as early as 2016, but it is not clear for what reason Samsung has not yet deployed the program.

South Korean start-up Zigbang and Samsung launched the world’s first smart door lock that supports ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. The biggest highlight of the door lock is that it does not need to touch the mobile phone to the door lock like the traditional NFC smart door lock, as long as the mobile phone is within the specified range of the door lock, the door can be automatically opened.

Naturally, Zigbang has also been properly designed in terms of security. First, only users who have been authenticated by the homeowner (such as family members or friends) can register. Second, whenever these registered users are unlocked in this way, the user will receive a notification from the Zigbang app letting them know of the entry and exit.

The new smart door lock is also compatible with Samsung’s Find My Device network, so when a smartphone is lost, users can simply log into the Find My Device website and delete the digital key to the Zigbang door lock. Samsung said it will work with more brands to bring UWB-based smart home devices.

Samsung devices that currently support UWB technology include Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 4.

The ultra-wideband (Ultra Wide Band, UWB) technology is a wireless carrier communication technology. It does not use sinusoidal carrier waves but uses nanosecond-level non-sinusoidal narrow pulses to transmit data, so its share of the frequency spectrum is wide.

UWB technology has the advantages of low system complexity, low power spectral density of transmitted signals, insensitivity to channel fading, low interception capability, and high positioning accuracy. It is especially suitable for high-speed wireless access in dense multi-path places such as indoors.

With the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable phones, Samsung is expected to further expand its foldable devices, and the next target is foldable notebooks. Citing foreign technology media 91Mobile reported that Samsung has obtained a patent for a related technology that looks like an enlarged version of the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

This patent is somewhat similar to the Galaxy Book Fold 17 that Samsung showed at the 2021 SID Conference, but it is more slender in terms of aspect ratio, and it looks like an oversized version of the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The patent for the technology was published this week, but the filing date was several years ago, suggesting that Samsung has had such an idea for a long time.

As for the foldable laptop concept, the design favors flexibility, figuratively. The bottom half of the device’s display is basically used for the ribbon, from a virtual keyboard to other types of input, to a color wheel for photo editing apps, to buttons and knobs for music creation software, and more.

Samsung recently released the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 folding screen phones, which have now broken pre-order records in South Korea. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are outperforming their predecessors and have higher average daily bookings than the Galaxy S22 series.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 were pre-ordered in Korea between August 16 and 22, with a combined total of 97,000 units. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 exceeded 920,000 units in their first week of availability.

Previously the ratio of Galaxy Z Flip 3 to Galaxy Z Fold 3 sales was thought to be 7:3, with a slight balance of pre-orders in the first week of launch for the 2022 folding screen. 65% of pre-orders were covered by the Galaxy Z Flip 4, leaving 35% of orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

On average, Samsung averaged 138,000 Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 pre-orders per day during the first week in the Korean market. By comparison, the 2021 folding screen phone averaged 131,000 pre-orders per day last year.

What’s more, Samsung’s new folding screen phones are also seeing more daily pre-orders in South Korea than the Galaxy S22 series, which averaged 127,000 units per day in the 8 days after launch, down from the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.

However, only time will tell if Samsung will be able to maintain this momentum and break sales records after the pre-order period ends. Back in June, it was reported that Samsung was considering selling 15 million folding screen phones in 2022, but that might not be enough to replace the Galaxy S22 series in the long run.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is priced from 12,999 yuan and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is priced from 7499 yuan. Samsung hopes that more than 50% of the Galaxy flagship phones sold in 2025 will be folding screen devices.

August 17, according to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra brought an ultra wide-angle camera last year, which added the ability to shoot 4K 60fps video with the ultra-wide-angle camera in addition to supporting the shooting of macro photos.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus were released without support for this feature. The same goes for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which doesn’t have any upgrades to the ultra-wide angle camera and only supports 4K 60fps recording using the main camera and rear zoom camera, according to the report.

SamMobile says the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus did not support 4K 60fps ultra-wide video at launch, but later added the feature via a firmware update, and Samsung is expected to do the same for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and possibly the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

In terms of updates, both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will get a major OS upgrade in four years, meaning both models could eventually run Android 16. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with Android 12L, while the Z Flip 4 runs Android 12.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 was officially released on the evening of August 10, the machine is the first smartphone equipped with the Android 12L operating system, the operating system has a new taskbar layout, somewhat similar to the taskbar at the bottom of the system on the PC side.

Now according to blogger @TheGalox_, the older Samsung Galaxy Z Fold phones will get a new taskbar with the One UI 4.1.1 upgrade “later this year”.

It’s not certain how much of the Samsung Z Fold4 One UI 4.1.1 user experience is related to the new Android 12L, but from GSM Arena’s hands-on experience, at least some Google native apps are available in split-screen mode for a good experience.

Android 12L is an operating system launched by Google last year, specifically for foldable devices, tablets and Chrome OS devices, with some optimizations in terms of operating logic.

Android 12L brings several new features that improve the experience of using multitasking on large-screen devices, as well as support for new swipe gestures, and Samsung also announced at the Galaxy Z Fold 4 launch that it will join forces with Google and Microsoft to bring an enhanced software experience to the device.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is powered by a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, complemented by 12GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, a 4400mAh battery and support for 25W fast charging + 15W wireless charging. It also comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X external display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 402ppi.

The Galaxy Z Fold / Flip 4 has a lower battery capacity than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but the first two still both outlast the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

TechDroider tested these 6 phones to their limits, including gaming, web browsing, 1080P 60 fps video playback, social apps, short videos, and recorded videos. The refresh rate and brightness were the same in the test, and other conditions were as follows.

The results show that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was the first phone to shut down, lasting 8 hours and 56 minutes, with the temperature on the back of the phone coming to 50.4°C; the second phone to shut down was the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, lasting 9 hours and 4 minutes, with a temperature of 42.1°C; the third to shut down was the Galaxy Z Fold 4, lasting 9 hours and 18 minutes, with a temperature of 39.7°C. The third shutdown was the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which lasted for 9 hours and 18 minutes, with a temperature of 39.7°C.

From these three Samsung’s own products, these two folding phones compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the battery life is longer, the temperature is also lower, which is the Snapdragon 8 + credit, TSMC 4nm process is still stronger than Samsung 4nm process.

Of the three remaining phones, the OnePlus 10 Pro lasted only a minute longer than the Galaxy Z Fold 4 (9 hours and 19 minutes), but ran at a higher temperature (45.1°C); then came the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, just released in early July, with a battery life of 9 hours and 38 minutes and a temperature of 44.1°C; the iPhone 13 Pro Max still had the longest battery life The iPhone 13 Pro Max still has the longest battery life, reaching 10 hours and 35 minutes with a temperature of 40.5°C.

Jacob Chen, vice president of Samsung China Taiwan, recently said that the new Galaxy folding screen phone, powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Plus first-generation processor, can solve the overheating and performance limitations of its predecessor. He also expects global shipments of folding screen models to reach 20 million units in 2022.

August 13, Android developers can now test their applications on the latest generation of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold / Flip 4 folding phones, even if they do not have these two phones in hand, it does not matter, because now Samsung has added these two phones to its Remote Test Lab (Remote Test Lab) among.

Samsung’s Remote Test Lab program allows app developers to test and fine-tune their upcoming apps on Galaxy devices connected to the cloud in order to get a realistic picture of how the app will run on the phone (e.g., how the app scales, changes, etc. once the folded phone is folded), which is much better than using virtual software or emulators, and also allows them to test their apps with hardware-oriented features such as Flex Mode and App Continuity.

The Remote Test Lab is free, and all that is required to use the service is a free Samsung developer account, a reliable Internet connection, and Java Runtime Environment 7 or higher with Java Web Start installed. Samsung offers each user 20 points per day, which can be redeemed for five hours of remote access to cloud-based mobile hardware each day.

In addition to remotely installing test applications, developers can take screenshots, record audio, and test automation scripts, as well as choose which language to use to test their devices. Remote Test Lab also supports sharing screens with other developers, making it easy for multiple developers to test together.

Remote Test Lab does not support testing hardware peripherals, nor can it test calling and texting features.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 phones are currently available in Samsung remote test labs in Brazil, South Korea, Poland, Russia and the UK, and can be accessed from anywhere in the world, with some regions requiring a queue to test with both phones.

August 11, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were announced last night, these two folding phones have higher durability and will also be less expensive in terms of screen repair.

According to Sam Mobile, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will cost $249 ($1677.94) to repair if the screen is broken outside of the warranty period in the US, and that’s with an $11 ($74.12) monthly subscription to the Samsung Care + plan.

But this year Samsung has lowered the price of this repair to $29 (about $195.42), but of course you still need to subscribe to the Samsung Care + plan, and this price is similar to the cost of repairing the screen of an ordinary Galaxy smartphone, which is Samsung’s way of reducing the cost of repair for users with folding machines.

The former features a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex internal screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.2-inch HD+ 13.1:9 aspect ratio Dynamic AMOLED 2X external screen with a 6.2-inch HD+ 13.1:9 aspect ratio. AMOLED 2X external screen with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 402ppi.

The device is powered by a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, complemented by 12GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, a 4400mAh battery and support for 25W fast charging + 15W wireless charging, but it won’t come with a charger.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 features a 6.7-inch (right angle) screen with ultra-thin glass, a hard-wearing Corning Gorilla Glass Victus + glass back panel, and a light and strong armored aluminum frame construction for the bezel.

Powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor with 8GB of RAM as standard and 128GB – 512GB of RAM as an option. Powered by 3700mAh (typical) battery.
