According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports, Apple plans to overhaul the Apple TV app with a tvOS update this December, with plans to integrate the Apple TV + streaming service and separate movie and TV show purchase options.

Apple plans to remove the separate “Apple TV” app for renting and buying TV shows and movies in order to drive users to the Apple TV app.

In addition, the Movies and TV Shows section will be removed from the iTunes Store app on iPhones and iPads.

Apple wants to direct users to the Apple TV app, which integrates movies and TV shows, Apple TV+ streaming content, and already offers a variety of third-party channels to meet users’ subscription needs.

Apple plans to make the Apple TV app a “hub” for streaming content after the integration and Gurman said the redesigned app will have a side panel on the left side that can be used to navigate between different video categories.

The updated navigation should make the TV app less confusing for consumers, making it clearer which content comes from Apple and which requires a separate subscription.

Apple internal research and development of new 4K Apple TV television, the earliest possible launch in 2024. Foreign technology media MacRumors recently released a blog post, combing the current information about the new Apple TV, The summary is as follows:

Design:

Apple Apple TV’s appearance design has been maintained for many years, it is expected that next year’s launch of the new model in the appearance will not have too much change.

The outlet suggests that the new model will have the same slim black plastic body as the current Apple TV.
New chip

The current Apple TV 4K features the same A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13 series, and the outlet expects the 2024 Apple TV to come with a new A-series chip.

Apple doesn’t usually design a dedicated chip for the Apple TV, and it’s expected that the new Apple TV will use the same A16 chip that’s in the standard iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15.

But there’s also a smaller possibility that the new Apple TV will use the same A17 Pro chip found in the iPhone 15 Pro, which will give users a console-grade gaming experience.

The A17 Pro is Apple’s first 3nm chip, and it includes a 6-core GPU that supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for the first time, giving games more realistic graphics. Thanks to the A17 Pro chip, a number of console games like Resident Evil 4 and Death Stranding are coming to the iPhone 15 Pro.

But that’s less likely now that word is out that Apple is looking to cut the price of the Apple TV, and the A17 Pro chip is too expensive.
Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7

Apple could bring a new, more modern Wi-Fi protocol to the next-generation Apple TV, but there’s no word on that.

The current iPhone 15 Pro model supports Wi-Fi 6E, and rumour has it that Apple will adopt Wi-Fi 7 for the iPhone as soon as next year.

The current Apple TV 4K model supports Wi-Fi 6, and it’s expected that the new model will support at least Wi-Fi 6E.
Other Connections

Apple offers Wi-Fi-only Apple TV 4K and Wi-Fi + Ethernet models, and that’s likely to continue for the next generation. We could also see the next-generation “Apple TV” adopt Bluetooth 5.3.

Apple TV is expected to continue to offer Thread integration and support for Matter when used as a home center for smart home products.
Pricing

Ming-Chi Kuo said last year that he expects the next-generation Apple TV to be more affordable and that a price below $100 (currently about RMB 731) would be “the best option. The current Apple TV 4K starts at $129 and comes with 64GB of storage and Wi-Fi connectivity only.
Release date

Apple is reportedly planning to release the next-generation “Apple TV” in the first half of 2024, with a debut at a spring event around March or April. In the past, Apple has launched Apple TV 4K models in September 2017, May 2021, and November 2022.
Innovation:

Apple could launch a high-end smart audio device that merges elements of its three product lines – Apple TV, HomePod and FaceTime camera – and possibly a camera for video calling that connects to the TV for video chatting.

Video hosting service Vimeo announced that its TV app will stop serving on June 27th. Vimeo said it would shut down its streaming app for all supported platforms, including Android TV, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.

These Vimeo apps will be removed from their respective app stores, and Vimeo will no longer push any security updates or provide technical support for its TV app. A support document spotted by Engadget shows that the latest changes don’t apply to the “branded app available to Vimeo OTT enterprise sellers.”

Vimeo is displaying an on-screen notification on users’ TV screens informing them that it is about to shut down.

The Vimeo TV streaming app launched in 2016 when the company positioned itself as a YouTube competitor, but over the years Vimeo has transformed itself into a business-focused streaming platform.

Still, the shutdown of the Vimeo TV app isn’t all over, and users can still cast their Vimeo content to the big screen with the help of Android and iPhone apps. Vimeo said it is retiring older products that no longer meet its standards, adding that “casting through its mobile app provides a better ongoing experience for viewers”.

To stream their favorite videos on a compatible TV, users just look for the Chromecast or AirPlay icon in the Vimeo app for Android and iOS. Note: As of now, Vimeo does not support casting videos from the Chrome web browser, but users can play Vimeo content from the Safari browser on Apple devices.

LG today announced that it has pushed out updates for more than 200 smart TVs including Seiki, Eco, Konka, Aiwa, Hyundai and others, adding support for Apple services such as Apple TV, Apple Music, AirPlay and HomeKit.

LG manufactures and sells smart TVs with a custom software ecosystem called webOS embedded in them. With the webOS Hub, manufacturers can essentially add an LG “brain” to their smart TVs.

LG has worked with a number of partners to push this update, which will allow webOS Hub-enabled smart TVs to access many of Apple’s core services. However, depending on the model, country and region, some TVs may not be available.

The webOS Hub-enabled smart TVs can access the Apple TV+ streaming service through the Apple TV app to watch original content such as “The Life Cutter” and many others. Users can also access Apple Music to listen to songs and more.

According to feedback from Apple TV users on the Reddit community, Twitter social media and Apple support forums, there are issues when playing HDR content. The most frequent feedback from users is that the images are too dark or faded.

Apple TV should theoretically see more colorful colors when playing HDR content, with more even exposure of the dark areas (shadows) and light areas (highlights) of the subject.

However, Apple TV users have reported problems with HDR content playback at the end of the update, with errors in hue, color temperature, and even shades of blue, as well as some strange occurrences. Even after turning off color shifting and adjusting brightness and contrast, the problem persists.

Users have reported that it’s hard to see faces in HDR mode, and basic methods like unplugging and replacing HDMI cables don’t solve the problem. According to people on Apple’s support forums, changing from 4K HDR at 60Hz to 4K HDR at 30Hz solved the problem.

The new generation of Apple TV in 2024 will have the same design as the current Apple TV 4K, and Apple will not make any major adjustments to its appearance. Bloomberg says it’s unlikely to support 8K video streaming, although it will have an upgraded chip.

Key new features of the current Apple TV 4K (model 2022) include an A15 bionic chip with HDR10+ support, prices starting at $129 (about RMB 928), up to 128GB of storage, a thinner and lighter fanless design, and an updated Siri remote.

In addition to minor updates to Apple TV, Apple is also working on other smart home products. One of those devices combines Apple TV, smart speakers and the FaceTime camera into one, but the release date for this product is unclear because it has had some design setbacks.

Apple is also working on a smart display that could serve as a kind of Home Hub to control HomeKit devices, make FaceTime calls and more. The product could launch as early as 2024.

Microsoft announced in October last year that Apple Music and Apple TV will be in the Microsoft Store in 2023, allowing Windows users to install and use Apple’s two applications.

According to foreign technology media The Verifier, these two apps have been put on the Microsoft Store.

Note that in the app description Apple emphasizes that Apple Music, Apple TV are available in preview form and some features may not work as users expect.

Apple also says that after installing these apps, they will prevent iTunes for Windows from opening, so users will not be able to access other types of content, such as audiobooks and podcasts, until Apple releases a compatible version of iTunes or until users uninstall the preview apps.

All three new Apple apps require Windows 11 version 22621.0 or later. Some users reported that even if the requirements are met, installation may not be possible.
