An independent repair shop in Germany recently invented a tool called Nerd.Tool.1, which can bypass the anti-repair lock on Apple MacBook Air and MacBook Pro and install related sensors by itself. .

Developed by Stephan Steins of Notebook Nerds repair shop, this tool allows independent repair shops to replace damaged display angle sensors on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

Previously, when repair shops encountered such failures, they could only hand them over to Apple officials for replacement. The important reason was that after replacing parts, they needed to be “calibrated” with designated equipment, and only Apple can perform this step.

Note: The display angle sensor is responsible for detecting when the notebook is closed, and also detects the screen status to put the notebook into sleep state. If this sensor fails, the screen will remain open even if the laptop is closed, draining the battery and keeping the fan running, shortening the computer’s battery life.

The Nerd.Tool.1 tool can be recalibrated after replacement without going through Apple, allowing repair technicians to replace it themselves.

Apple launched two colors of bright black and matte black as early as the iPhone 7 series models, but due to many problems such as paint peeling and scratches, Apple has never launched a black version of iPhone models.

According to the list published by the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), Apple has obtained a new technology patent, outlining the anodizing process involving etching and dyeing, which can form a unique matte black color scheme, which can be applied to MacBook, iPad in the future, iPhone, Apple Watch, and more.

Apple stated in the patent that the anodizing process can dye the casing in different colors to enhance its appearance appeal to consumers, but some colors are more difficult to achieve.

Apple has outlined a variety of process implementations in the patent. One of the processes here. During the process of forming the anodized layer on the metal substrate, the color particles are injected into the holes of the anodized layer, and the anodized layer is etched. The outer surface of the ® forms light-absorbing features on the outer surface, allowing L to achieve colors below 10 in the CIE Lab* color gamut.

Apple Figure 1 partially shows an extremely matte black device, including the iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook, and iPad; while Figures 3A-3B show views of anodized parts before undergoing the etching process; Figures 7A and 7B show an anode with light-absorbing features An example image of the component.

According to Taiwan’s “Digital Times” report, people in the supply chain have recently reported that Apple intends to develop a lower-priced MacBook series, so as to compete with Chromebook for the education market.

The news was confirmed by other people in the supply chain, and Apple is indeed developing this series of products, “just according to the current progress, there will be more information after the second half of 2024 at the earliest.”

Taiwanese media said that Apple’s low-priced MacBook may create a new product line to differentiate it from the existing MacBook Air and Pro. The appearance is still made of metal, but the material is different. The unit cost of components is lower and the price is more affordable.

Apple is expected to resurrect the 12-inch MacBook that was eliminated before, but the 12-inch MacBook designed by Jonathan in 2015 is positioned higher than the MacBook Air at that time. Yuan, and the MacBook Air at that time was still an early model without replacing the Retina screen. The starting price of the 2014 model was 6,988 yuan.

If Apple plans to revive the 12-inch MacBook at the moment, it is expected that the product itself will not focus on “extremely thin and light” like the 2015 MacBook, and its positioning should be closer to the popular “Xiaobai” model launched by Apple in 2006-2010.

Apple released the 13-inch MacBook Air M2 version in June 2022, with a notch design, and the price of 8GB + 256GB starts at 9499 CNY. After the release of the new 15-inch MacBook Air, the 13-inch model has been reduced to 8999 CNY and the educational discount price is 8199 CNY.

It is noticed that Wingtech Technology’s Apple M2 chip MacBook Air, which was mass-produced at the Kunming factory, obtained the 3C quality certification earlier this month, marking that following the M1 version of the MacBook Air, the M2 model will also expand its production line in mainland China.

According to the Financial Associated Press, Apple’s MacBook Air product line has been produced by manufacturers such as Quanta and Foxconn in Taiwan, China, and Wingtech Technology is its only notebook computer chip manufacturer in mainland China.

Industry insiders said that with the mass production of the new M2, the shipment of Apple laptops produced by Wingtech Technology will further increase.

In terms of configuration, in addition to silver and space gray, the MacBook Air now has two new looks: midnight and starlight.

In terms of the interface, MagSafe returns to the MacBook Air, and at the same time, it can quickly disengage when the charging cable in the connected state is accidentally pulled, thereby protecting the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air also features 2 Thunderbolt ports for connecting several accessories and a 3.5mm audio jack for connecting high-impedance headphones. Plus, Magic Keyboard features a full-height function key row with Touch ID and a large, industry-leading Force Touchpad.

In terms of screen, the new MacBook Air is equipped with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, with the screen area closer to the edge and extending up around the camera to make room for the menu bar. This design results in a larger screen area and narrower bezels. With 500 nits of brightness, the display is 25% brighter than before. Additionally, the new display now supports 1 billion colors.

The new 1080p FaceTime HD camera on MacBook Air features a larger sensor with more effective pixels, delivering up to 2X the resolution and low-light performance of the previous-generation camera.

In terms of audio, the MacBook Air is also equipped with a four-speaker audio system. In order to achieve a slim design. The three-microphone array uses advanced beamforming algorithms to capture clear sound, while the speakers deliver excellent stereo separation and clear speech. MacBook Air also supports spatial audio for an immersive audio-visual experience when playing music and movies that support Dolby Atmos.

In terms of performance, Apple gives the performance of MacBook Air in the following workflows:

For heavy-duty tasks, such as editing complex timelines in Final Cut Pro, the M2 chip can boost MacBook Air performance by nearly 40 percent, and up to 15 times faster for customers who haven’t previously upgraded to an Apple chip.

Applying filters and effects in apps like Photoshop is up to 20 percent faster, and for customers who haven’t previously upgraded to an Apple chip, it’s up to 5 times faster.

In terms of battery life, Apple claims that while the display is larger and the performance is stronger, the MacBook Air can also guarantee the same excellent battery life as before, which can meet all-day needs and provide up to 18 hours of video playback time.

TrendForce also predicts that global laptop shipments will drop to 163.2 million units in 2023, a 12.2% drop from 185.9 million units in 2022.

Previous TrendForce research showed that global NAND flash memory sales will decline by 16% in the first quarter of 2023. Under the current environment, manufacturers continue to reduce production to cope with inventory pressure. Due to the impact of the supply chain, the production and sales of laptops will also fluctuate to a certain extent.

It is also noticed that according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it is expected that Apple will release a 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip at WWDC tonight. Except for the different display size, other designs of this laptop are different from the current 13-inch MacBook Air.

According to the latest research of Omdia’s “Tablet and Laptop Display Panel and OEM Market Tracking Report”, the portable computer panel (The report includes laptops and tablets) will be in 2022. Total shipments reached 479 million units. Not only was this the first time since 2020 that annual shipments fell below 500 million units, but it was also the first time since 2019 that shipments fell 16% year-over-year.

After experiencing rapid growth in the previous three years, the market demand for portable computers will continue to cool down in 2022.

Except for Apple, most portable computer brands will see a double-digit year-on-year decline in panel purchases in 2022. Apple will purchase a total of 99 million portable computer panels in 2022, but it is still a year-on-year decrease of 4%, and Apple has been the largest purchaser of portable computer panels since 2017. Thanks to the strong growth of iPad and MacBook products, Apple’s share of portable computer panel purchases has increased from an average of 17% in the previous year to 21% in 2022, breaking through 20% for the first time. In terms of application products, Apple will purchase 27 million display panels for notebook computers and 72 million display panels for tablet computers in 2022. Apple’s laptop panel suppliers include BOE, LG Display and Sharp.

Lenovo, the world’s second-largest purchaser of portable computer panels, has purchased a total of 55 million units in 2022 after experiencing the impact of slow growth in the tablet PC business, a year-on-year decrease of 29% to 11%. Lenovo procured 45 million display panels for notebooks and 10 million display panels for tablets in 2022. In order to reduce the risk of display panel supplier monopoly, Lenovo has many years of cooperation with all portable computer display panel manufacturers. Recently, Lenovo has continued to deepen cooperation with Chinese display panel suppliers.

In terms of laptop display panels, Lenovo will be the largest purchaser in 2022 with 45 million units, followed by Dell with 35 million units and HP with 33 million units. Hewlett-Packard has been the largest buyer of display panels for notebook computers for many years. Under the policy of strict inventory control and reduced procurement plans, HP will fall from the world’s largest notebook computer panel purchaser in 2022 and relegate to third place. Looking forward to 2023, the overall performance of the global portable computer market is still poor. The procurement strategies of notebook computer display panels of various brands tend to be conservative, and the forecasts are all reduced to the lowest. Guaranteeing and strategically partnering notebook display panel volumes will be a top priority in 2023.

In terms of tablet display panels, Apple’s iPad will be the largest purchaser in 2022 with 72 million units, followed by Samsung with 29 million units, Amazon with 14 million units and Lenovo with 10 million units. The top four tablet panel buyers all saw year-on-year declines in purchases in 2022. After Apple adopts an inventory digestion strategy, the procurement of iPad panels in the first half of 2023 will continue to be weak.

According to Vietnamese financial media Vietnam Finance, Vietnam’s Nam Dinh Province and Apple MacBook assembler Quanta signed a large-scale computer manufacturing cooperation project in the My Thuan Industrial Park. Quanta will invest 120 million U.S. dollars to build a factory in the province. The first phase will cover an area of 22.5 hectares.

It is reported that the factory will be Quanta’s ninth factory in the world. The report did not provide information on when the factory will be completed. The executives of Quanta said that after inspecting the development potential of several provinces in Vietnam, they finally chose the My Thuan Industrial Park in Nam Dinh Province as the location for the project. They expressed that they will promote the implementation of the project as soon as possible, and hope to get the support and assistance of the Nam Dinh Provincial Government.

The chairman of the Nam Dinh Provincial Government, Pham Doi, said that the province will provide investors with the most favourable conditions and work with investors to resolve legal and technical issues that may be encountered during project implementation. He also urged Quanta Computer to complete the planning and design of the project as soon as possible and send authorized representatives to coordinate and communicate with relevant departments to ensure that the project is completed on time and with high quality.

Quanta Computer is one of the world’s largest notebook computer manufacturers and a Fortune Global 500 company. In addition to the laptop business, Quanta Computer is also involved in cloud computing, enterprise network, mobile communication, smart home, automotive electronics, smart medical care, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. At present, Quanta Computer has eight factories in mainland China, the United States, Mexico, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Thailand, with annual revenue exceeding US$40 billion.

According to Taiwan’s “Central News Agency” report last week, Quanta announced on the 17th that it will invest 50 million US dollars to establish a Vietnamese subsidiary, which will be the second production base in Southeast Asia outside Thailand. Quanta said that the Vietnam factory will invest in batches according to business needs. Quanta previously set up a factory in Thailand, starting with small electronic products such as the Internet of Things, and then expanded to product lines such as servers and notebooks. In the future, it will carry out related investments according to customer needs.

Nikkei Asia previously reported that Apple plans to begin mass production of MacBooks in Vietnam in the first half of this year, the first time this flagship product will be produced outside of China, and Apple is also negotiating with suppliers to manufacture MacBooks in Thailand.

The Nikkei Asian Review reported last week that Apple is in talks with three suppliers to set up factories in Thailand and Vietnam for the production of MacBook.

According to a new report, one of the suppliers that have surfaced is Quanta, with United Daily News reporting that Quanta’s current factory in Thailand has been improving yields in recent years to largely meet Apple’s stringent requirements.

The report claims that Quanta’s board of directors has passed a resolution to invest a total of $50 million (currently around 344 million RMB) to set up a Vietnamese subsidiary to open a factory in Vietnam to produce MacBook for Apple.

As previously reported, a senior executive from the supplier said

Ideally, Apple asked us to build a factory in Vietnam for the MacBook, following in the footsteps of other Apple suppliers, but we offered an alternative option of producing the product in our Thailand factory, where there is still plenty of space to reserve for customers.

As assembly of the MacBook will begin in Vietnam first, we can also supply parts from our Thailand facility, which will only require two to three days of logistics and customs clearance.
