According to the latest report from Forbes, multiple Apple MacBook Pro models have experienced a “dust door” incident, which causes purple vertical lines to appear on the screen when the MacBook Pro is opened and closed at a certain angle.

“This is a common question and we get several every week,” says Stephan Stein of repair shop NotebookNerds.

The issue, which causes purple vertical lines to appear on the screen when the MacBook Pro lid is opened at an angle, has been seen on several MacBook models.

The problem seems to come from the screen flex cable that connects the display to the main body of the laptop. There’s a gap at the hinge point between the screen and keyboard that can collect dust and dirt. Debris can then get into the cable and damage it over time by opening and closing the cover.

Above are pictures of the repair: The left image shows the damaged flex cable, while the right image shows where the dust collected that caused the failure.

Ricky Panesar, founder of repair specialist iCorrect, told me the problem affects the A1989, A2251, A2289, A2338 and A2141 models, with the latter being the worst affected.

The models were released between 2018 and 2020, but Panesar says MacBook Pro models sold between 2016 and 2020 have a similar design and may be vulnerable to this glitch.

Apple’s current MacBooks are equipped with “touching” Liu Haiping, but they are not equipped with the Face ID facial recognition function on the iPhone.

Apple officials previously stated that due to the thickness limit of the MacBook Pro screen, it cannot be equipped with a Face ID module.

At present, a new patent shows that Apple has begun to place corresponding sensors in MacBook Pro, iMac and other devices, which is expected to bring Face ID recognition function to such devices in the future.

It is found that in Apple’s “optical recognition module for determining the user of a computing device” patent, a MacBook with facial recognition function appeared. Module ‘stores user’s biometric information’.

▲ Picture source: Patent map released by Apple Inc.

Apple stated in the patent that in order to prevent unauthorized users from accessing users’ sensitive data, Apple will integrate “systems and mechanisms for authenticating users” in its devices.

It is reported that the “light pattern recognition module” will be located in “a partition” of the device, which may be “adjacent” to the display layer or located above the display layer, which includes an emitter capable of emitting a specific light, and A sensor that can detect light reflected from objects is roughly the same principle as the Face ID sensor technology used in current iPhones and iPads.

Considering that the thickness and frame width of Apple iMac are actually enough to accommodate the FaceID sensor of the existing iPhone or iPad, Apple’s current “optical recognition module” patent drawing is more of a reference nature, but it does not rule out that Apple will add an iMac Upper bangs for the possibility of “Face ID” facial recognition.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg continued to break the news in the latest Power On newsletter released today, saying that Apple is currently testing the M3 Max chip, which is expected to accompany the new MacBook Pro and Macintosh next year. Meet everyone.

Gurman said in the newsletter that the new M3 Max chip will be equipped with 16 CPU cores (12 high-performance processing cores and 4 efficiency cores) and 40 graphics processing cores, making it the most powerful chip on Apple’s Apple Silicon.

Note: Apple’s current M2 Max chip comes with 12 CPU and 38 GPU cores.

Gurman previously reported that the M3 Max chip is expected to use a new 3-nanometer process, which will improve speed and efficiency compared to the M2 Max chip. Apple is testing the chip in an unannounced high-end MacBook Pro code-named “J514.”

The first Macs powered by the M3 chip will be released in October, Bloomberg previously reported. The initial lineup will include a 13-inch MacBook Pro, a 24-inch iMac and a 13-inch MacBook Air. Whether the base version of the M3 Mac mini will also launch around the same time is unknown.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release new Mac computers equipped with the M3 chip in October this year, but the Mac mini and high-end MacBook Pro models are not in the first batch of the launch list.

In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman says that Apple is working on an M3 version of the Mac mini, but that Apple isn’t rushing to release it, and it probably won’t be available until late next year or later. Similarly, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models won’t launch with M3 chips this October but will be followed by the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, which are expected to be released by mid-2024 at the latest.

Mark Gurman notes that the M2 version of the Mac mini comes more than two years after the M1 version, suggesting that Apple doesn’t see the Mac mini as a device that needs to be updated every year. By contrast, the high-end MacBook Pro, a much more popular device, is updated about every four to five quarters.

Mark Gurman said last week that the first Mac with an M3 chip could launch as early as October this year, and that the first models with M3 chips could be the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 24-inch iMac. It’s widely expected that, compared to the 5nm-based M2 chip in existing devices, the M3 chip will It is widely expected that the M3 chip will be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, resulting in significant performance and power efficiency improvements over the 5nm-based M2 chip in existing devices.

Following Korean media The Elec, Ross Young, CEO of DSCC, a screen supply chain consulting company, said that Apple is developing a 13.4-inch MacBook Air equipped with an OLED panel.

In a paid tweet published today, Ross Yang stated that the existing OLED supply chain cannot meet Apple’s requirements and will focus on upgrading the use of OLED panels for tablets such as the iPad Pro in the next few years. Apple hopes to further optimize the supply chain in the next few years, and the MacBook Pro product line will upgrade OLED panels in 2026.

It is learned from Ross Yang’s tweet that Apple plans to launch MacBook Air with OLED displays and 11.1-inch / 13-inch iPad Pro models in 2024.

Compared to LCD models, Macs and iPads with OLED displays will have higher brightness, contrast, and use less power, resulting in longer battery life.

According to the latest tests, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips have faster SSD write speeds compared to their predecessors.

Earlier press reviews of the new MacBook Pro were released, and Macworld and Tom’s Guide tested the SSD read and write speeds of Apple’s latest laptop.

Macworld tested the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro using the Blackmagic Disk Speed app, achieving read speeds of 5,372MBps and write speeds of 6,491MBps in a 2TB storage configuration. The previous-generation 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip and 1TB of storage achieved slightly faster read speeds than the 16-inch M2 Pro, but slower write speeds of 5321 MBps.

Blackmagic Disk Speed Results

The test results published by Tom’s Guide also show that the new M2 Pro has faster write speeds than the M1 Pro, but slightly slower read speeds. Testing the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 Max found that the notebook scored similarly to the 16-inch M2 Pro, achieving read speeds of 5,319 MBps and write speeds of 6,402 MBps.

While the new MacBook Pro has slightly slower read speeds based on these tests, users are unlikely to notice a difference in day-to-day performance unless they are working with very large files. Storage speed and performance are also influenced by other factors, such as storage capacity.

Last year, it was announced that Apple had dramatically cut the SSD speed of the base M2 MacBook Air, with one less SSD chip in the laptop. 256GB of storage capacity in the MacBook Air with a single NAND chip resulted in 50 percent lower read speeds and 30 percent lower write speeds. Previous base versions of the MacBook Air used two NAND chips. Apple said in a statement that the actual performance of MacBook Air is “even faster” and uses a “higher density NAND” chip.

Apple officially announced the new MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips yesterday. According to Apple’s website, the new Mac products, with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, were originally planned for release in October or November of last year.

Apple released a short video following the launch of the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini that included the word 2022 in the filename, suggesting that the video may have originally been scheduled to premiere last year.

Some speculate that the 18-minute video was taken from a major event Apple plans to hold in October or November 2022 that will include not only the new M2 Pro and M2 Max Mac products, but other new products as well. In addition, AR files of the new MacBook Pro were created in October 2022.

Apple generally hosts an event in September each fall to announce its latest iPhone and Apple Watch. In the run-up to fall 2022, a growing number of rumors suggest that Apple plans to hold two events between September and December: one for the iPhone and Apple Watch, and another for the Mac and iPad.

However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman later claimed that Apple canceled its plans for a second fall event and instead released the remainder of its 2022 products via a press release on its website. We’ll see what happens after that, as in October 2022, Apple announced an iPad Pro with an M2 chip and a redesigned 10th-generation entry-level iPad via a press release.

Now it appears that the Mac and iPad launches for the second half of 2022 have indeed been canceled and the products are being split up for press releases.

Apple MacBook Pro

According to the latest news from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the specifications for Apple’s 2024 MacBook Pro have also been revealed, and it will come with the 3nm M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the next new MacBook Pro is expected to enter mass production in the first half of 2024 with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, manufactured using a 3nm process (TSMC N3P or N3S).

TSMC is expected to start mass production of its next-generation 3nm chips in late December, so the M3 Pro and M3 Max will indeed have to wait until 2024 according to the timing.

In addition, Ming-Chi Kuo said that the new Mac mini in 2024 will maintain a similar exterior design to the current version, so it seems that the previously announced glass-topped Mac mini may not be available in the short term.

Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro models have up to 22 hours of battery life, which is the longest battery life available on a Mac.

Both the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models have an extra hour of battery life over their predecessors, from 17 hours to 18 hours for the 14-inch model and from 21 hours to 22 hours for the 16-inch model. For comparison, both the M1 and M2 MacBook Air offer 18 hours of battery life, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro offers 20 hours of battery life.

It’s unclear whether this was achieved by increasing battery capacity, but Apple says the improved efficiency of the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips extends battery life and reduces the amount of energy they consume over their lifetimes compared to the previous generation M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

Following the new iPad 10th generation and iPad Pro launch, netizens have been on the lookout for the release of the Apple MacBook Pro models. The previous understanding of this coming laptop made popular on the internet was that it will launch before the end of the year, but that isn’t the case. Current information from popular Apple tipster Mark Gurman fails to validate the previous understanding of the soon-to-launch MacBooks.

In the recent Power On newsletter from reporter Mark Gurman, the launch of the MacBook Pros with M2 chips will take place early next year. It will become official with updates to the iPad and MacBook ecosystem being the macOS Ventura 13.3 and iOS 16.3 software updates. So, we can expect Apple to stick to their launch culture and make the new MacBooks available sometime within the month of March.

Mark also makes updates to the processor to feature on the coming product launch and from his findings, we will see the M2 chip arrive with the Apple MacBook Pro models. For the screen sizes, we will see a 14-inch model and a larger 16-inch model and might as well features a notch similar to the 2021 MacBook Pros (14.2-inch and 16.2-inch). The M2 chip to be in use on the coming Apple MacBook Pro models might be the same available on the MacBook Air, made official this year. Apple might as well tweak the processor to make it a bit more powerful than the existing model.

Information on what might be the Apple M2 Pro and M2 Max processors will hit the internet in the coming weeks. All we have regarding these MacBooks are simply speculations and leaks on their models and launch date. The pricing of the Apple MacBook Pro models will be made available by the company during the product launch event.
