The first-generation Mac Studio will be launched in 2021, using M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips, and exists as a Mac Pro replacement in the product line. At today’s Apple WWDC 2023 conference, Apple released the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips and updated Mac Studio to the M2 Max and Ultra versions.

According to Apple, the performance of Mac Studio equipped with M2 Max is 25% higher than that of the previous generation M1 Max model, and when using Adobe After Effect software for rendering, the rendering speed can be increased by 50%, compared with the current most powerful Intel iMac ( Note: i9-10910) performance has been improved by 4 times. Compared with the current most powerful Intel iMac, the performance of M2 Ultra Studio has been improved by 6 times. Compared with the previous generation of M1 Ultra products, the CPU performance has been increased by 20%, and the GPU performance has been increased by 30%. It can smoothly decode Apple ProRes image format. Apple says the new Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip is up to three times faster than the previous Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra chip. In terms of exterior design, the Mac Studio of the M2 is not much different from the old Mac Studio.

The M2 Max version of Mac Studio features a 12-core CPU and 30-core GPU, supporting up to 96 GB of RAM. The M2 Ultra basic version of Mac Studio has a 24-core CPU, 60-core GPU and up to 192GB of RAM, and users can customize Mac Studio with up to 76-core GPU and 192 GB of unified memory.

Apple says the “new Mac Studio is aimed at professional users who tackle demanding tasks like video editing and 3D rendering.”

The new Mac Studio features extensive connectivity with higher bandwidth HDMI for resolutions up to 8K 240Hz. With the M2 Ultra, Mac Studio supports up to 6 Pro Display XDRs, providing plenty of screen real estate for professional workflows.

Plus, it now features advanced built-in wireless technology. Wi-Fi 6E offers twice the download speed of the previous generation, while Bluetooth 5.3 allows users to connect to the latest Bluetooth accessories.

On the back, Mac Studio includes four Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10Gb Ethernet port, an enhanced HDMI port, and two USB-A ports, and also features two USB-C ports and an SD card slot on the front for easy import photos and videos.

It is learned that the new Mac Studio with the M2 Max chip starts at $1,999 accepts pre-orders today, and starts shipping on June 13 and launching at Appleā€™s official retail store.

Yesterday Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple is expected to unveil “several new Macs” at its WWDC 2023 keynote on Monday, but he didn’t provide any details about which Macs the company will launch. Today Mark Gurman is back with a new report that says Apple is testing two new Mac desktops with the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips.

The new Mac desktops, codenamed Mac 14,13 and Mac 14,14, will reportedly use the M2 Max chip, which is already in use in the high-end MacBook Pro laptop released earlier this year.

The report says the new model will also be available with a more powerful version of the M2 Ultra chip, Apple’s yet-to-be-announced new processor, which will double the performance of the M2 Max with a 24-core CPU and 60-core GPU, and support up to 192GB of memory. There will also be a higher-end M2 Ultra chip with a 76-core GPU.

Bloomberg said the M2 Ultra chip was originally designed for Apple’s Silicon Mac Pro, but due to the uncertainty surrounding the design of that model, Apple decided to use the chip in the Mac Studio, a high-performance desktop computer for professional users that can handle intense tasks such as video editing and 3D rendering, which Apple Apple hopes to use it as a replacement for the Mac Pro.

In addition to the two new Mac desktops, Bloomberg also revealed that Apple is developing two new MacBook Airs, a new 13-inch MacBook Pro and a new iMac, all of which will be powered by the M3 chip. However, the first M3 Mac products are not expected to be available until the end of this year.

The WWDC 2023 developer conference will be held on June 6 and Apple will showcase its latest hardware and software products to a global audience via a live online stream.

Apple’s newly announced M2 Pro and M2 Max processors are now on top of the PassMark single-core score list for notebooks.

According to PassMark data, Apple’s 12-core M2 Max is the first in the PassMark notebook single-core performance rankings, the second three are slightly lower frequency M2 Pro models, the fourth is an M2 model, followed by Intel’s 12th generation Core HX series processors.

Intel’s 13th generation Core HX series of gaming notebook processors will be available in February, with the i9-13980HX reaching a frequency of 5.6GHz and expected to surpass the M2 Max as the new top of the list.

According to official data, Apple’s newest flagship processor, the M2 Max chip, has 67 billion transistors integrated inside, 10 billion more than the M1 Max chip and more than three times the size of the M2 chip, pushing the functionality and performance of Apple’s chips even further. Unified memory bandwidth of up to 400GB/s is twice that of the M2 Pro chip and four times that of the M2 chip, and supports up to 96GB of high-speed unified memory.

The M2 Max chip features a next-generation 12-core CPU, the same as the M2 Pro chip. The graphics processor is even more powerful, with 38 cores and a larger L2 cache. Graphics processing speed is up to 30% faster than the M1 Max chip.
