Yesterday Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple is expected to unveil “several new Macs” at its WWDC 2023 keynote on Monday, but he didn’t provide any details about which Macs the company will launch. Today Mark Gurman is back with a new report that says Apple is testing two new Mac desktops with the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips.
The new Mac desktops, codenamed Mac 14,13 and Mac 14,14, will reportedly use the M2 Max chip, which is already in use in the high-end MacBook Pro laptop released earlier this year.
The report says the new model will also be available with a more powerful version of the M2 Ultra chip, Apple’s yet-to-be-announced new processor, which will double the performance of the M2 Max with a 24-core CPU and 60-core GPU, and support up to 192GB of memory. There will also be a higher-end M2 Ultra chip with a 76-core GPU.
Bloomberg said the M2 Ultra chip was originally designed for Apple’s Silicon Mac Pro, but due to the uncertainty surrounding the design of that model, Apple decided to use the chip in the Mac Studio, a high-performance desktop computer for professional users that can handle intense tasks such as video editing and 3D rendering, which Apple Apple hopes to use it as a replacement for the Mac Pro.
In addition to the two new Mac desktops, Bloomberg also revealed that Apple is developing two new MacBook Airs, a new 13-inch MacBook Pro and a new iMac, all of which will be powered by the M3 chip. However, the first M3 Mac products are not expected to be available until the end of this year.
The WWDC 2023 developer conference will be held on June 6 and Apple will showcase its latest hardware and software products to a global audience via a live online stream.
