Apple holds 7 of the top 10 best-selling models by sales and revenue in 2022. Apple iPhone 13 leads with an 8% share in 2022, followed by iPhone 14 Pro Max and Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 11 series. These 10 models account for about 45% of panel shipments in 2022. Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Max leads the 2022 smartphone revenue list with an 11% share, followed by the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. These 10 models account for approximately 58% of smartphone revenue in 2022.

LTPO backplanes continue to gain share as more panel suppliers’ LTPO capacity becomes eligible for volume production. LTPO penetration rises from 10% in 2021 to 23% in 2022. The report expects LTPO to continue to grow and achieve over 40% share and 60% equipment revenue share during the forecast period. The growth of LTPO is the result of strong demand for higher refresh rate and AOD displays. Apple adopted LTPO panel technology on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max in 2021. In 2025, as LTPO production capacity continues to rise and costs fall, DSCC expects that all of Apple’s iPhone 17 series models will use LTPO panels.

In Q4 2022, Apple accounted for four of the top five best-selling models in terms of shipments and revenue. The iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro had a 25% shipment share and a 38% revenue share.

For Q1 2023, the top five models are expected to be Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and Samsung A54. These five models are expected to account for 39 percent of shipments and 50 percent of smartphone device revenue.

According to the Apple mobile device model codes published in the latest beta version of Apple Xcode, the iPhone 14 series model codes are as follows.

• iPhone14 Pro Max：iPhone15,3

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have the same model code as the iPhone 13 / Pro series and are part of the “iPhone 14” generation.

In fact, this is not surprising, according to Apple’s model code rules, models equipped with the same generation of processor, the model code belongs to the same generation. For example, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c were released a year apart, but both are equipped with the A6 chip, so the model code is “iPhone 5” series.

Apple outperformed its competitors, selling nearly 7 million iPhones during the shopping holiday season, and the company ranked first in revenue share across all major merchant platforms.

The market in China reflects a global trend. According to a recent Canalys report, global smartphone shipments fell 9 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2022, while Apple achieved a 17 percent market share, up 3 percent year-over-year. While Samsung’s share also increased to 21 percent, Chinese vendors Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo all saw their market share drop, to 14 percent, 10 percent and 9 percent, respectively.

The data shows that iPhone 13 demand in China has been surprisingly resilient despite widespread supply chain issues and economic headwinds affecting the tech industry. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes iPhone 14 demand is expected to maintain Apple’s momentum, especially given Huawei’s exit from China’s high-end 5G smartphone market and Apple’s replacement and dominance in that market.

All in all, Apple’s solid position in China is good news for the iPhone 14, which is expected to launch in September this year. The lineup is expected to include the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.
