Apple issued a reminder today that after the update in March this year, iPhone users in 27 EU member states will not be able to rely on the App Store for functions such as “Screen Time” and “Purchase Sharing”. / feature will not function accurately.

Apple said that “Screen Usage Time” mainly counts user usage time by calling the API of the App Store mall. Therefore, after opening third-party app stores to European users, apps downloaded and installed through non-App Store, or apps installed using sideloading methods, the running time cannot be counted.

Note: After setting up “Purchase Sharing”, one adult in the family (family organizer) will pay for the purchases of each family member. Apple said that this feature would be available after opening the third-party app store to European users. It also cannot be used normally.

Apple also warned that it would not be able to help users with issues such as refunds, purchase history, subscription management and cancellation, violations of user data privacy, abuse or fraud and manipulation.

Apple recently released the visionOS Beta 5 update. It has been one month since the last Beta 4 update. According to the latest news shared by source @aaronp613, one of the noteworthy improvements in this Beta 5 update is the introduction of the App Store.

Apple has currently only invited a small number of developers to test the Vision Pro headset, and most developers can only simulate it on Xcode at this stage, and Apple officially does not provide each visionOS update.

Apple has hosted Vision Pro labs in places like Shanghai, inviting local developers to test Vision Pro themselves and get help with “visionOS” apps from Apple engineers.

Apple plans to release the Vision Pro headset in early 2024, so Apple still has a few months to perfect the hardware and software.

It’s been reported that Apple has been setting up Vision Pro developer labs around the world since last month, inviting developers to test and get hands-on with the Vision Pro headset and experience the real-world effects of the apps, but 9to5Mac and other media outlets have pointed out that the number of developers who have participated in the event can be described as “overwhelming” (see below). However, 9to5Mac and other media pointed out that the number of developers participating in the event could even be described as “a small number.

Apple has previously denied this, with Steve Sinclair, director of marketing for Vision Pro, claiming:

Apple developers are very satisfied with the Vision Pro headset, its SDK downloads exceeded the company's expectations.

The current use of Apple Silicon processor macOS platform App Store store, the actual default has provided iPhone and iPad applications; and in the iPadOS platform, has always been able to use the iPhone application, but the resolution will have a certain degree of scaling, so Apple in the Vision Pro headset So it’s not surprising that Apple has made apps available by default for the Vision Pro headset.

Apple in order to ensure that the App complies with its guidelines, for the App Store has developed a strict audit process. Apple further tightened the audit policy, if the App calls some APIs, then the developer is required to submit to the App Store a detailed explanation of the reason for calling the API.

Apple recently updated the Apple Developer website to mark some APIs as “Required Reason APIs”.

Developers if you need to call these APIs in the App, then in the review instructions submitted to the App Store, describe in detail the use of the API.

Apple said the primary purpose of enabling this measure is to combat fingerprinting, a technology that tracks users across different apps and websites.

The new rule, which will go into effect in the spring of 2024, will allow Apple to reject an app application if it determines during the review process that the app doesn’t need to call the API.

Tesla application allows owners to control and monitor their cars through the iPhone phone, the application has a service called “Advanced Connections”, this service is $9.99 per month (currently about RMB 72), and allows owners to unlock some features, such as navigation in the car, video streaming, music playback and so on. The service costs $9.99 per month (about 72 yuan) and allows owners to unlock features such as in-car navigation, video streaming, music playback and more. However, according to Gizmodo, Tesla did not follow the rules of Apple’s app store, the App Store, and did not use Apple’s in-app purchase system to collect the fee.

The Apple App Store has very strict rules that require developers to use Apple’s in-app purchase system for any feature or service that requires a fee. This allows Apple to take a percentage of each transaction, ranging from 15% to 30%. Apple believes it is doing this to ensure the safety and experience of its users, as well as to maintain the fairness and health of the platform.

Tesla’s Advanced Connections service was originally intended to be used only on the in-vehicle display, eliminating the need to use Apple’s in-app purchasing system. However, Tesla later added a feature called “View Live Camera”. As long as the vehicle is in Sentinel Mode, this feature allows the owner to view what’s going on around the vehicle while it’s parked on their phone. This feature is apparently available on the phone and requires a fee to use. According to Apple’s rules, Tesla would have to offer Apple’s in-app purchase option in this case, but instead of doing so, Tesla is just using its own payment system.

This means that Tesla is bypassing Apple’s app store rules, which Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly criticized, calling it “like a 30% tax on the Internet. He’s also backed Epic Games, which has been in a long-running legal battle with Apple over the App Store rules.

It’s worth noting, however, that all apps submitted to Apple’s App Store go through a review process. It seems that Tesla’s lack of use of Apple’s in-app purchase system hasn’t caught Apple’s attention. But now that this news has broken, things could change. it

According to the Economic Times of India, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) is close to concluding its antitrust investigation into the App Store and has concluded that Apple is expected to have to open up its platform to competitors.

Apple has been under the CCI investigation since September 2021, when it launched the App Store in response to complaints from the nonprofit “Together We Fight Society.”

According to the sources, the next step will be to ask Apple to submit a report. But it’s unclear how this differs from any previous Apple filing, or when a final ruling will be made.

These sources expect CCI to eventually repeat previous demands on Google (Note: Refers to the opening of third-party payment systems on Google Play). Therefore, there is a high probability that Apple will be required to open a third-party payment system for the App Store in India, not just requiring developers to use its own payment system.

Of course, this is not the first time Apple has been asked to open up a third-party payment system. In 2022, Apple complies with South Korean authorities’ request to allow developers to use external payment methods. But even then, Apple limited the option to only apps published in South Korea and still charged a 25% commission.

In addition, Apple is also facing a similar situation in the European Union, so they are also making broader preparations for the App Store’s open payment system. It is expected that the European Digital Market Law will start to force Apple to implement this plan in 2024.

Apple has insisted that it only allows users to download iOS apps through the App Store to ensure they are not affected by scams. However, some apps have been able to bypass the App Store’s review rules and quietly make their way onto the shelves. Most recently, there was a fake Trezor Wallet app that misled users into thinking it was an official app for managing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Trezor is a legitimate cryptocurrency wallet, but some iPhone users noticed a fake app called “Trezor Wallet Suite” popping up on the App Store a few weeks ago. Rafael Yakob of The Crypto Lawyers reports that the app is ranked #1 in the App Store search results in the US and UK, which is very concerning. “The app has been around for a few weeks, and while the total number of victims is unknown, it is likely in the hundreds or thousands,” Yakob said. Yakob said.

The fake app asks users for a lot of personal data, which could be used for malicious purposes. Apple has now removed the app from the App Store.

To the dismay of users, Apple is not very friendly to Bitcoin apps. Many legitimate iOS apps that can manage bitcoin and other cryptocurrency wallets are often rejected by Apple, while scam apps like this one are able to get through Apple’s review process.

Apple allows cryptocurrency apps to be shelved on the App Store, but there are strict conditions. For example, developers must have permission and permission to operate in the region where the app is on the shelf, and apps cannot use cryptocurrency to unlock content or features.

Last week, Apple threatened to remove the social networking app Damus from the App Store because it allowed users to reward individuals for their posts using “Zaps,” a microtransaction based on Bitcoin. Damus had to be removed from the iOS app to keep it available on the App Store, which Apple claims is the equivalent of selling digital content.

While Apple claims that the App Store “is a place you can trust” and is against sideloading, the reality is that even Apple can’t guarantee that the App Store is free of fraudulent apps. If Apple really wants to prove that the App Store is a safe place, it should make sure that fake and fraudulent apps like these never appear in its store.

Apple introduced Peer group benchmarks for developers in App Analytics on Wednesday. Developers will be able to compare the performance of their apps with similar apps on the App Store.

The official description of the tool is as follows:

App Store Connect’s App Analytics is a useful tool that provides a wealth of features to help you understand and improve the performance of your App in the App Store. With metrics related to customer acquisition, usage, and monetization strategies, you can monitor results at all stages of the customer lifecycle (from awareness to conversion to retention) with App Analytics.

Peer group benchmarking metrics compare your App’s performance to similar apps in the App Store and starting today, you can use this feature to measure the App’s performance in effective contexts. Now you’ll gain more insights and identify business growth opportunities more effectively.

Peer group benchmarking metrics will provide unique and useful new insights throughout the customer journey, helping you to more accurately understand where your App is performing well and find ways to improve. The system assigns apps to different peer groups based on their App Store category, business model, and downloads to ensure that comparative data is relevant. In addition, peer group benchmark metrics use industry-leading differential privacy technology to provide relevant and actionable insights while ensuring the privacy of individual app performance.

See the new benchmark metrics data and then take advantage of additional tools in App Store Connect to improve conversion rates, revenue, crashes, and user retention. You can test different elements on product pages to find what resonates most with users, create additional versions of product pages to highlight specific features or content, get feedback on beta apps, offer in-app events to encourage engagement, and more.
