AMD launched a new data indicator called System Lag in the latest preview driver.

Simply put, this is a metric specifically designed to measure the delay between frames generated by the game engine and frames rendered by the graphics card, similar to NVIDIA’s PC Latency (PCL).

It is worth mentioning that this feature is only available for graphics cards that support Anti-Lag +, which currently only includes Radeon RX 7000 series and RDNA3 core graphics.

With this feature, users can gain a deeper understanding of how AMD Anti-Lag+ can enhance their gaming experience, and this technology will be launched simultaneously with FSR3.

AMD said that with Radeon Anti-Lag+ technology, games can achieve application frame alignment from the code layer, resulting in better frame synchronization, lower latency and a better gaming experience.

▲ NVIDIA’s explanation of system latency

Note: AMD’s Anti-Lag+ is only available for some games, and these games must use the DirectX12 API to implement the system delay function to display data. Games supported by AMD Radeon Anti-Lag+ include:

 Apex Legends

 Overwatch 2

 dying light 2

 Shadow of the Tomb Raider

 Rise of the Tomb Raider

 Resident Evil 4

 Ghost Line: Tokyo

 fortnite

The Last of Us: Part 1

 Star Wars Jedi: Survivors

 Resident Evil 3

 Borderlands 3

AMD has now put online the RDNA3 instruction set architecture (ISA) document on the official website, which details the instruction content of the RDNA3 architecture, with 606 pages.

This very complex document is for developers who want specific instructions enabled or modified for the RDNA3 architecture and provides knowledge about the RDNA3 shader code execution model, the memory hierarchy, and lists all available instructions.

The company has only listed one RDNA3 GPU, the Navi 31, for the Radeon RX 7900 series desktop graphics cards.

Navi31: One GCD + four MCD core designs, 12,288 stream processors, 96MB unlimited cache, possible 192MB 3D cache version, 384-bit memory bit width.

Navi32: One GCD + four MCD core designs, 7680 stream processors, 64MB unlimited cache, 256-bit memory bit width.

Navi33: Single-chip design, 4096 stream processors, 32MB unlimited cache, 128-bit memory width.

VideoCardz has now obtained an architectural design diagram of AMD RDNA3 GPU, which shows some information not mentioned at AMD’s conference.

As shown in the figure above, the RDNA3 architecture Navi31 GPU adopts a Chiplet design, including a 5nm graphics core (GCD) in the middle and six 6nm process memory cache cores (MCD) around it.

In terms of cache, Navi31 L0 cache is 3MB, an increase of 240%; L1 cache is 3MB, an increase of 300%; L2 cache is 6MB, an increase of 50%; L3 infinite cache is 96MB, 32MB smaller than the previous generation Navi 21.

The most notable point is that the RNDA3 GPU frequency mentioned in the figure can exceed 3GHz, the first in the industry. However, the Boost frequency of the AMD RX 7900 XTX reference version is only 2.5GHz. It is reported that AMD seems to be pursuing a balance between performance and power consumption. The public version of the graphics card uses dual 8pin power supplies, which limits the power of the graphics card. The non-public model will use better cooling and power supply, reaching a frequency of 3GHz, unlocking more performance.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards are expected to be officially available on AMD.com website from December 13, 2022, and from mid-December by leading partners including ASRock, ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, Shaxun, Sapphire , Hankai, Xunjing and Yeston are on sale. The e-commerce suggested retail price of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX is RMB 7,999, while the e-commerce suggested retail price of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT is RMB 7,399.

The RX 7900 XTX public version has 96CU, 6144 stream processors, GPU frequency 1900-2500MHz, and graphics card power consumption of 355W, which is much lower than the 450W of RTX 4090. The RX 7900 XTX reference version is 287 mm long and 2.5 slot thick, which is much smaller than Nvidia’s flagship model.
