According to The Information, Meta Company paid a celebrity up to US$5 million in order to build an artificial intelligence assistant, just to use his image and voice. It is reported that the celebrity was paid $500 for working in the studio for only six hours and the contract lasted for two years.

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg showed off the AI assistants at last month’s Connect event, with 28 different personalities using the likenesses of famous people.

For example, the image of model Kendall Jenner was used for Billie, who was portrayed as a big sister giving advice to users. Professional American football player Tom Brady plays Bru, a chatbot used to debate sports topics.

Meta has also invited some well-known creators, such as MrBeast, the most subscribed individual on YouTube, and TikTok star Charli D’Amelio.

The Information reports that Meta was initially willing to pay more than $1 million to use a celebrity’s image, but for big-name stars, they offered more. The report did not reveal which celebrity received $5 million, but described it as a top creator.

Currently, these AI assistants can only communicate through text, but Meta’s promotional video shows snippets of speaking.

In an interview with The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg said there was a “huge need” to create artificially intelligent versions of celebrities. But he said this was “more of a next year thing” due to brand safety concerns, as celebrities want to ensure their images are not used to make questionable statements.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes that the future of artificial intelligence in the field of top companies will likely be in the AI personal assistant direction, that is, the ability to perform certain specific tasks for people.

According to Bill Gates, “This technology will have a profound impact and could fundamentally change user behaviour. No matter who wins the personal agent war, it’s a big deal because you’ll never go to a search site again, never go to a productivity site again, and never go to Amazon again.”

On Monday, local time, Bill Gates said at an artificial intelligence-themed event held jointly by U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs and venture capital firm SV Angel in San Francisco, the yet-to-be-developed AI personal assistant will be able to understand the needs and habits of individuals and will help them “read what you don’t have time to read.

Bill Gates predicted that the winner of this future AI field will be either a startup or a tech giant, with a 50-50 chance. He said, “I’d be disappointed if Microsoft didn’t get in on this.”

Bill Gates also mentioned Inflection.AI, co-founded by Mustafa Suleyman, a former executive at Google’s AI lab DeepMind, adding, “But there are a few startups that have impressed me, including Inflection. “

It will be some time before this powerful digital agent of the future is ready for mainstream use, Bill Gates said. Until then, the company will continue to embed so-called generative artificial intelligence technology in its own products, similar to OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT.

Bill Gates also discussed its efforts in the direction of health at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, saying AI will accelerate innovation in the field and help develop more advanced medicines.

Although scientists still can’t completely figure out the inner workings of the human brain, the Microsoft co-founder believes humans are getting closer to creating effective drugs for diseases like Alzheimer’s, with human trials of new drugs likely within 10 years.

Bill Gates also likens the ability to produce compelling text-generating artificial intelligence technology to a game changer, convinced that it will impact the white-collar class. At the same time, he believes that future companies using humanoid robots that are cheaper than human employees will also greatly impact the jobs of blue-collar workers.

Bill Gates jokingly said, “When we invent these robots, we just need to make sure they don’t suffer from Alzheimer’s.”
