At the “2022 China Data and Storage Summit”, Sugon said that it released the industry’s first liquid-cooled storage – Sugon ParaStor liquid-cooled storage system, which deeply combines liquid-cooling technology with storage technology.

According to the official introduction, the Dawning ParaStor liquid-cooled storage system combines the cold-plate liquid-cooling solution with higher heat exchange efficiency with storage technology, which significantly reduces the working temperature of key components of memory and HDD storage, and greatly reduces the heat dissipation power. Compared with air cooling, the performance of liquid cooling storage systems has been improved by more than 20%.

Sugon also deeply optimizes the system software. By adopting technologies such as large-scale erasure codes, data deduplication and compression, hard disk partition hibernation, and refined control of power consumption, the utilization of storage resources is fully improved on the basis of ensuring capacity and performance. , to minimize the power consumption of the storage system.

At the application level, Sugon ParaStor liquid-cooled storage system is flexibly configured in various scenarios. For high-performance small-scale application scenarios, Sugon ParaStor liquid-cooled storage system provides an all-flash configuration solution, while for medium-to-large-scale application scenarios, it provides a more cost-effective mixed-flash configuration solution.

It has the same origin as Sugon liquid-cooled server technology. In order to facilitate the unified planning, design and sharing of data center infrastructure, Sugon ParaStor liquid-cooled storage system can conveniently and efficiently form a “storage-computing one-stack” liquid-cooling solution with liquid-cooled servers. While improving the efficiency of operation and maintenance, it makes the deployment of data centers more convenient.

Data shows that the power consumption of storage systems accounts for about 35% of the total power consumption of IT equipment systems in data centers, second only to server power consumption. Dawning said that the use of the “one-stack storage and computing” liquid cooling solution can reduce the PUE value of the data center to below 1.1. Taking the power consumption of an EB-level data center as an example, compared with air-cooled storage, liquid-cooled storage can save 4.5 million kWh of electricity a year, reduce CO2 emissions by 1,493 tons, and support the annual power consumption of 2,812 households, which is equivalent to planting 82,957 trees. .

What is PUE?
Power usage effectiveness (PUE) is a measure used to determine the energy efficiency of a data center. Power usage efficiency is calculated by dividing the total power entering the data center by the power used to run the computer infrastructure in the data center. Therefore, power usage efficiency is expressed as a ratio, and a quotient close to 1 indicates an overall increase in efficiency. Power Usage Efficiency was established by members of the Green Grid, an industry group focused on data center energy efficiency. Data Center Infrastructure Efficiency (DCIE) is the inverse of power usage efficiency, expressed as a percentage, with a ratio closer to 100% indicating higher overall efficiency.
