According to the latest research report released by S&P Global Mobility, the automotive industry has basically got rid of the semiconductor shortage problem.

Automakers have encountered severe semiconductor supply shortages during the COVID-19 epidemic. Quoting the report as saying that in 2021, due to supply shortages, annual production will drop by 9.5 million vehicles, with the most serious in the third quarter of 2021. The annual production loss is estimated to be 3.5 million vehicles.

The report says semiconductor shortages in the auto industry will begin to ease in 2022, though they still lost 3 million vehicles last year.

The report said semiconductor supply continued to improve this year, with the industry losing “only” about 524,000 vehicles in the first half of 2023.

The study warns that several types of semiconductor chips are still in short supply as modern cars demand more chips.
