State Grid Suzhou goes online with shared charging robot: 1 unit can manage 50 parking spaces

Recently, the new energy vehicle charging robot system developed independently by Jiangsu Suzhou Power Supply Company was officially put into use in the underground parking lot of Renheng Jiangwan Yayuan District in Gusu District, Suzhou, and only one charging robot can meet the charging needs of 50 parking spaces. It is reported that the new energy vehicle charging robot system is composed of three parts: a power socket, charging gun, and mobile robot.

The system has changed the traditional way of charging new energy vehicles by using “one-to-one” fixed charging piles. Through robot control technology, Internet of Things technology, and scheduling algorithm, the charging gun is precisely controlled to move to the designated parking space to assist vehicle owners to charge quickly, realizing the transformation from “car looking for pile” to “pile looking for a car”, significantly improving the utilization efficiency of charging piles and reducing construction investment costs.

Statistics show that by the end of 2021, the number of new energy vehicles in the Suzhou region exceeded 100,000, and with that comes a significant increase in charging demand.

“In 2021 alone, more than 25,000 individual charging pile applications were accepted for installation in residential areas in the Suzhou area, an increase of 160% year-on-year. However, a considerable number of owners are unable to build piles because they do not have the conditions for installation for various reasons.” Liu B, an employee of the Marketing Department of Suzhou Power Supply Company, introduced that individual old neighborhoods without fixed parking spaces or independent property rights parking spaces do not meet the application conditions for private charging pile installation, and it is inconvenient for neighborhood residents to charge with their cars.

At the end of 2021, Suzhou Power Supply Company started the research and development of a new energy vehicle charging robot system to solve the problem of new energy vehicle charging.

In the underground parking lot of Yanlord Jiangwan Yayuan District, a silver-white rail with a closed-loop at the beginning and end covers 50 parking spaces in series, and a power outlet has been installed above each parking space.

After parking, the owner sweeps the code with his cell phone, and the rail robot will “hold” the charging pile to the power socket above the parking space and connect it automatically, and the owner can charge by taking off the charging gun and connecting it to the new energy vehicle charging port.

The system also applies flexible and orderly charging control technology, in the process of charging new energy vehicles, the charging pile can dynamically adjust the output power according to the actual load situation in the area. It is worth mentioning that the system also supports customers to use digital RMB payment settlement.

According to the introduction, the track (including cable trough), shared charging pile, and robot of the new energy vehicle charging robot system have been prefabricated modularly, simplifying the process. The project covering 50 parking spaces can be completed in just two days, achieving high efficiency without disturbing the public, and Suzhou Power Supply Company has also arranged professional staff to regularly maintain and repair the new energy vehicle charging robot system.

In the next few days, Suzhou Power Supply Company will actively promote the application of the system in old neighborhoods, public shopping malls, new residential areas, and other places.
