According to the latest research report released by speed measurement company Ookla, based on the US 5G network, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max leads the pack with a median downlink speed of 251.37 Mbps, which is 58% faster than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The company also conducted the same speed test in the second quarter of this year, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max had a median downstream speed of 127.83 Mbps. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was 96.6% faster.

The report only shows test data from the second and third quarters, so it’s impossible to definitively conclude how much of the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s performance improvements come from the device/hardware itself and how much comes from network improvements.

After the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the highest average download speed measured by Ookla was 147 Mbps. That number dropped as iPhone 14 Pro Max adoption plateaued at 127 Mbps in the second quarter of this year.

If the same holds true this time around, we’ll see the iPhone 15 Pro Max deliver median download speeds of around 230 Mbps in the long term, potentially around 100+ Mbps faster than the previous generation.
