Even though there is no clear hint at the launch of the new Xperia smartphone, we expect the brand to launch a new compact Sony Xperia smartphone.
Is Sony Xperia 5 IV launching soon?
Sony has confirmed its new upcoming event officially. The event will be live streamed on the company’s YouTube account on September 1 at 3 a.m. ET. It’s unclear whether this event will take place at IFA 2022 in Berlin or if Sony is holding it at a different time.
The event was announced via the brand’s official Twitter handle, and there’s also a teaser video on Sony’s Xperia channel. That video provides us with a taste of what to expect from the phone. It stars Cat Burns, a musician who utilised the new Xperia phone to create her current song video.
Rumours suggest the Sony Xperia 5 IV is near ready for launch, with it appearing in FCC certification in the last few days. Reports say the phone will feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a 6-inch OLED screen, and three 12MP cameras on the rear. So far, changes seem minimal compared to the last-gen phone, with one of the key highlights being the introduction of wireless charging. We’ll likely know much more about Sony’s next phone at the end of next week.

The video doesn’t specifically mention the Xperia 5 IV, but it does state “Go compact,” implying that we’ll be searching for a smaller alternative to the company’s large flagship phones. Other products may be released on September 1, but this is the one that the firm is strongly teasing.
