Sony SIE Jim Ryan: PlayStation does not regard Xbox Game Pass as an opponent at all

0

According to Insider Gaming, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan held an employee Q&A in December 2022, during which he hinted that PlayStation does not consider Xbox Game Pass a competitor.

He said that the total number of XGP subscribers seems to be getting lower and lower, with only 20 million subscribers left, compared with PlayStation Plus’s close to 50 million subscribers. In addition, he also mentioned that Sony has sold more PS5s than the total number of Xbox Game Pass members in the past two years.

As of September 30, 2022, PlayStation 5 has shipped 25 million units worldwide, and this number has continued to increase.

According to reports, Sony has significantly increased its PS5 stock capacity in the past few months, and some users have even seen piles of PS5s on store shelves. Additionally, fans can buy a PS5 bundle that includes two of the year’s biggest hits, God of War: Ragnarok or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The exact number of Microsoft Xbox Game Pass subscribers is currently unknown. However, this number has already surpassed 25 million in January 2022. Additionally, Sony also previously claimed that Xbox Game Pass has more than 29 million monthly subscribers, so this claim seems to contradict the previous numbers. We believe here that Ryan may have omitted PC Game Pass subscriber numbers and only compared Xbox Game Pass memberships to PlayStation Plus subscriber numbers on Xbox consoles.
