Sony PS6 and next-gen Xbox won’t be released for at least five years

In January this year, Microsoft Xbox announced that it had spent 68.7 billion US dollars (about 489.831 billion yuan) to acquire the gaming giant Activision Blizzard. Sony has made clear its opposition to the acquisition due to concerns that Call of Duty will become an Xbox exclusive.

That being said, the reality is that most of the Call of Duty PlayStation versions have exclusive content, and Sony itself has a wide variety of exclusive games.

Sony and Microsoft are expected to launch next-generation console platforms seven years from now, according to now-public investigative documents from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) (via PlayStation Lifestyle).

According to the survey report, Sony made it clear that 2027 is the release window for the next-generation game console, which means that Sony will not launch a new generation of home consoles for at least seven years after the release of the PS5.

According to VGC, the CMA expressed concerns about whether Call of Duty could be shared after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard. “This effect is likely to be particularly pronounced at the launch of next-generation consoles, when gamers make different decisions about which console to buy because of exclusive content,” the U.K. regulator said.

In response, Microsoft and Activision responded that “it is undeniable that some gamers may reconsider their purchase direction when a new generation of consoles is released.” The company also pointed out, “This is an event that only happens about once every eight years.” Microsoft added that “next-generation consoles are not expected to be released before the fall of 2028 at any earlier date.”
