Sony today pushed out a beta system update for PlayStation 5 that finally brings a 1440p HDMI video output option.

The official announcement says the PS5 beta introduces support for 1440p HDMI video output, enabling gamers to choose additional visual settings on compatible PC monitors and TVs.

Players can experience native 1440p output on their monitors if the game they are playing supports 1440p rendering, or if the game they are playing has a higher native resolution (such as 4K), then players can downsample to 1440p output by oversampling.

Second, the PS5 is testing support for creating game lists, making it easier for players to organize their games. Players can create up to 15 game lists, add up to 100 games to each game list, and rename game lists, just like game folders.

In addition, users will be able to listen and compare the differences between 3D and stereo audio on the same screen, and then choose a preferred setting.

When resuming a game, the activity in progress will also be displayed at the top of Game Center, allowing players to get back to the game they are currently playing faster.

Users can also request squad members to launch a shared screen to watch their game. Simply go to the voice chat card, select the squad member to whom you want to send the request, and select [Request Shared Screen].

In addition, when a user joins a party and a party member is playing a game that they can join, the user will receive a notification and join the game directly from the notification.

The PS5 beta will be available to select participants in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany and France. It’s worth noting that VRR on PS5 currently only supports 1080p and 4K video output, but not 1440p.
