SK Hynix showcases 48GB and 96GB DDR5 RDIMMs in unconventional capacities

SK Hynix is showing some unconventional server memory capacities at the Intel InnovatiON 2022 event: DDR5 RDIMMs in 48GB and 96GB capacity sizes, and of course the common 32GB, 64GB and 128GB densities, which are available in DDR5-5600 and DDR5-6400 data rates.

Obviously, since this is a memory for server products, these are unlikely to be XMP or overclocked SPDs, but rather JEDEC standards that processors can automatically match to. This suggests that DDR5-5600 (JEDEC standard) may be the standard memory speed supported by the Xeon Scalable “Sapphire Riptide” processors, with some (or all) models also supporting DDR5-6400.

The flagship product at the SK Hynix booth was a substantial 256 GB DDR5-5600 RDIMM, which arrived to enable the next 4 TB of memory per processor (2 RDIMMs per channel) for servers.
