According to Korean media Sedaily, Samsung Electronics said at the Internet of Things Technology and Business Forum in Seoul that the self-driving technology developed by its Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) is close to “Level 4” and completed a 200-kilometre road test from Suwon to Gangneung in October last year. The report that an industry source said SAIT has been working on self-driving technology research and development for the past five years since it received a temporary permit for autonomous driving from South Korean regulators in 2017, overcoming many problems such as driving on ramps, identifying special vehicles, and changing lanes automatically.
Samsung has already mass-produced parts for Level 2 autonomous driving and provides mature solutions for Level 3 autonomous driving, while SAIT will further commercialize Level 4 autonomous driving technology.
