The report said that Samsung Display is currently developing transparent OLED with quantum dot technology and plans to launch a trial product in the second half of this year at the earliest. The source said that Samsung Display has not set a specific time for mass production of transparent OLED, and it is still not possible to determine the application areas for the panel.

Reports indicate that Samsung Display had released a 55-inch transparent OLED panel in 2015, but in the end did not actually mass production. Samsung’s biggest rival, LG, has successfully mass-produced transparent OLEDs for applications such as store windows and airplane portholes.

The company’s newest product is the LG Transparent OLED, which is the world’s only mass-produced transparent OLED panel manufacturer. This move also brings great competitive pressure to Samsung Display.

The global transparent OLED market will only have a market size of 100 billion won in 2022, but analysts expect it to increase to 3 trillion won by 2025 and to 12 trillion won by 2030.
