Samsung unveils Galaxy S23 and XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition phones with special apps for the US military

Samsung recently announced that it will launch two smartphones customized for the US military: the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition. The two phones build on the Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition launched last year, adding more special features and apps for military missions.

It is reported that both military phones are equipped with Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) and Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Observation Kit (BATDOK) and other applications. ATAK improves warfighter real-time situational awareness, and BATDOK collects and distributes real-time casualty information.

In addition, the two phones also meet the security requirements of the US military and are protected by Samsung Knox and Knox Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR), which complies with the US National Security Agency (NSA) requirements to protect classified data. Samsung’s DeX technology is also a highlight of these two phones, allowing military law enforcement to use phones instead of laptops in vehicles.

In terms of hardware, these two military phones have the same configuration and quality as the commercial version. The Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, featuring Gorilla Glass Victus+ and Armor aluminum alloy, and comes with a rugged military-grade case that can be worn on the chest or on the forearm. The XCover 6 Pro tactical version also has IP68 dustproof and waterproof capabilities and also meets the MIL-STD-810H standard, can withstand a drop of 5 feet and work normally in various temperatures.

Samsung announced the two new products at SOF Week last week, and said they will be officially launched this summer, and the current price is unknown. Samsung said the two military-grade smartphones “will be valuable tools to help our warfighters accomplish their missions.”
