Samsung to showcase laptop display that folds and slides at the same time, renderings released

0

According to the official news of Samsung Display, the company will hold an invitational exhibition on the theme of “Disruptive Technology Journey Opens a Sustainable Future” at CES from January 4th to 7th. Samsung Display will bring innovative OLED products in various sizes, covering small, medium and large sizes.

Flex Hybrid

Among these innovations, Samsung will showcase a display called “Flex Hybrid” that will combine foldable and slidable features, which Samsung says is a prototype for future laptops, and official renderings have been released.

The Flex Hybrid has a foldable design on the left and a slideable design on the right. Users can watch movies and videos on the 10.5-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, or on a larger 12.4-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

Samsung Display did not elaborate on when we can expect Flex Hybrid in commercial products. TCL showed off something similar last year, combining a foldable and rollable display, but we haven’t seen any actual devices with such screens yet.

While these concept products are very interesting, their commercial viability is another matter. Manufacturing products at scale using these unique displays can be a challenge for a variety of reasons.

Meanwhile, Samsung Display will also show off a 17-inch slideable display at CES in 2023. The company previously previewed the screen at Intel Innovation 2022, but this will be its first public appearance. The monitor comes in two designs, one called the Flex Slidable Solo which expands in one direction, and the other called the Flex Slidable Duet which expands in two directions. The monitor measures 13-14 inches when folded, making it highly portable.
