Samsung SmartThings Find service registers more than 300 million devices

Samsung said in a press release released today that the SmartThings Find service has experienced explosive growth and the cumulative number of registered and added devices worldwide has exceeded 300 million.

SmartThings Find is similar to Apple’s “Find My” service, which allows users to locate products such as Samsung Galaxy smartphones, tablets, watches, earphones, Galaxy SmartTag or SmartTag+.

Samsung said the devices work together to search and locate, and all sensitive data is encrypted and stored on Samsung Knox. A device’s location data is only shared with others with the user’s permission, and each device’s ID changes every 15 minutes.

There’s also an option to search for nearby unknown tags and mark them as safe or unsafe, while Galaxy users get an extra layer of anti-tracking security that will notify users if an unknown SmartTag is tracking them.
