Samsung announced that it has obtained two international standard cloud security certifications, namely ISO 27001 and ISO 27017. This is a testament to the company’s “world-class information protection and system operation capabilities.”

Certification to ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System) and ISO 27017 (Information Security Management System for Cloud Services) was developed by the International Organization for Standardization and accredited by the Royal Standards Institution. Samsung confirmed that they were able to achieve both cloud security certifications at the same time.

Samsung’s MX division responsible for smartphones and other mobile devices has received two cloud security certifications. It’s also a testament to the company’s ability to manage systems and secure information in “private clouds” it operates for services such as software updates.

ISO 27001 is one of the most prestigious certifications for information protection and is based on the Information Security Management System (BS7799) standard developed by BSI Group in 1999. To achieve this accreditation, applicants must meet 133 management criteria in 11 categories, including information protection policies and information access controls.

On the other hand, ISO 27017 certification can be obtained when the applicant operates the cloud service environment and information protection management in accordance with international standards. Regarding Samsung’s achievements, BSI (British Standards Institution), the world’s national standard-setting body, said: “Through this review, Samsung Electronics’ private cloud system We have confirmed that the operational capabilities and security meet international standards.”

Ahn Gil-joon, vice president of the mobile platform center at Samsung Electronics’ MX division, also said the company will maintain cloud technology and security capabilities at the highest level and will continue to strive to meet international standards.
