Samsung promises to release firmware update this month to fix 990 Pro SSD

0

After Samsung launched the 5B2QGXA7 firmware for the 980 Pro SSD solid state drive to fix issues such as locking up to read-only mode, the company promises to launch a new firmware in the near future that will address the 990 Pro’s health issues.

The 990 PRO is Samsung’s current flagship consumer-grade SSD, priced at up to 999 CNY for 1TB and 2199 CNY for 2TB. Robbie Khan, the editor of Neowin, a foreign technology media, wrote in January that his 990 PRO experienced a problem of rapid decline in health after a few days of purchase, and Samsung officials refused to guarantee the warranty.

The article stated that just a few days after buying the 990 Pro 2TB, according to the SMART data of Samsung Magician and third-party tools, the health of the solid-state drive dropped to 99%, while a Samsung solid-state drive he bought before has written The input exceeds 40TB, and the health degree is still 99% after 1.5 years of use, so the newly purchased SSD is obviously abnormal.

Samsung officials have confirmed that the issue has been reproduced in internal testing, and the company promises to fix it with a firmware update. The reply from the Samsung community staff is as follows:

"Hello everyone, We have received feedback from our technicians:

Samsung is currently reviewing customer inquiries regarding anomalies related to the Samsung SSD 990 PRO's SMART usage percentage (on Samsung Magician) and health status (on Crystal Disk Info).

We have been able to reproduce this bug in some use cases.

To fix the issue, Samsung is expected to release a firmware update in February."
