Samsung Maintenance mode becomes available globally with OneUI 5 update

The Samsung Maintenance mode became available a few months ago first to Korea and then to China now it is rolling out globally. This wider availability is courtesy of the OneUI 5 update that is now accessible by many Samsung devices. The function of this new Maintenance mode is to protect your sensitive files while your device undergoes repair or servicing.

Once a Samsung user turns on this feature via their device settings, access to their data is blocked. With this, users can rest easy knowing that their data is secure while servicing of the device is ongoing. For now, access to this amazing feature is available to only select devices from the Samsung Galaxy S21 and S22 series.

This new feature puts the Samsung after-sale repair and customer care service in most Samsung official stores across the world in the spotlight. To access this feature before handing your device over for repairs, go to settings, tap battery and device care. Once on the settings page, scroll down until you find “Maintenance mode” and tap on it to turn on the feature.

Once it is on your device switches to a separate account after the device reboots, this account can’t access applications and data on the device. Those servicing the device will easily run tests to confirm if the device is working properly, while not being able to access personal data. This is a great feature from Samsung and will continue to roll out in more regions throughout 2023.

Most other smartphone manufacturers might borrow a thing or two from the Samsung Maintenance mode feature. Rolling out a similar feature on their smartphones, other Android smartphone OEMs will put their customer’s privacy first. We will wait to see which other competitor will launch a similar service and check how well they perform in comparison with Samsung.
