Samsung is expected to ship 11 million new Galaxy Z Fold4/Flip4 folding screen phones this year

Hours before the Galaxy Unpacked launch event, data analyst Omdia has shared its yearly shipment estimates for Samsung’s new folding screen devices. The agency says Samsung is expected to ship 11 million Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 units by the end of 2022.

Although the figure is more than 50 percent higher than last year’s Galaxy Z Fold3 / Galaxy Z Flip3, it still doesn’t exceed Samsung’s internal shipment target of 15 million units.

However, Omdia points out that if the new Galaxy Z Fold4 / Galaxy Z Flip4 sells more than 10 million units, it means that Samsung has successfully filled the gap left by the Galaxy Note series with its folding screen lineup.

If you include the older models currently on sale, Omdia expects Samsung to ship 13 million folding screen smartphones by the end of 2022.

Previously, Samsung Mobile said in July that global shipments of folding screen phones would be close to 10 million in 2021, and that 70 percent of users would prefer the flip-style Galaxy Z Flip.
