Samsung is considering launching a foldable laptop with waterdrop hinge

According to TheElec, Samsung is considering applying the waterdrop hinge it introduced on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 to foldable laptops launched next year.

The waterdrop hinge makes Samsung’s latest foldable phone have screens on both sides closer when folded, while reducing the crease in the middle of the screen, which is better than the previous U-shaped hinge.

However, bringing this technology to a laptop may force Samsung to make it thicker than before. Additionally, laptops are further away from your eyes than smartphones, so there’s less need for a waterdrop hinge. It is noted that other companies that have launched foldable laptops, such as LG Electronics and HP, are focusing on reducing the weight of their U-shaped hinges.

The report also said that Samsung originally planned to launch a foldable laptop last year but delayed it due to low consumer demand, and the technology giant did not have much market share in the laptop market.

Samsung is weighing the pros and cons and plans to launch its foldable laptop in the second half of next year when it believes consumer demand will recover, sources said. Meanwhile, Samsung is also considering sourcing foldable OLED panels from Samsung Display or BOE.
