According to the Indian Economic Times news, Samsung executives said on Thursday that the company will produce its flagship Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 in India to meet local demand, the two phones are scheduled to be launched on August 18 in India.
J B Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, said that the two latest foldable screen phones will be manufactured at the Noida plant in Uttar Pradesh.
Samsung started manufacturing the Fold 4 and Flip 4 series in India in December last year, four months after their launch. It is noted that unlike the fourth generation of the foldable screen series which was manufactured in India four months after its launch, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 / Flip 5 was immediately manufactured locally in India at the time of its launch, and Indian consumers were able to buy them right from the start! The Galaxy Fold 5 and Galaxy Flip 5 are “Made in India”.
Counterpoint Research, a market research and analytics firm, forecasts that global foldable smartphone shipments will grow from 78.6 million in 2026 to 101.5 million in 2027, with the segment dominated by Samsung and Apple, which it expects to launch Apple’s foldable iPhone in 2025.
According to the market research firm, Samsung led the Indian smartphone market with a 20 percent share in the first quarter of 2023 and also maintained its lead in 5G handset shipments with a 24 percent share.
